Only out of her room for one day and already, Lynne had made a friend...or two. Maybe three, but she wasn't sure whether CJ actually counted as a friend, all things considered.
Although they hadn't talked an awful lot, she felt as though she'd made a bit of a connection with Noah. She thought maybe it had to do with the fact that she was vaguely familiar with the military and the way things worked. It seemed to her like an awfully crummy thing to have in common, however loose the connection was, but he was a really nice guy and she liked the idea of spending more time with him. It certainly didn't hurt that he was attractive. So, when he'd asked her to the costume ball, which she hadn't been entirely sure she was going to go to at all - Lynne favored the idea of after parties, instead - she'd happily agreed to go. He'd been complimentary and sweet. Maybe a guy like Noah was exactly what Lynne needed right now, even if only as a friend.
The primping process took hours, even if she'd never admit to it if asked. Part of the problem was that her nearly waist-length hair took ages to dry after her shower and even longer, still, to curl. The costume itself didn't take a very long time to put on but then she'd stood in the mirror for nearly ten minutes trying to decide if she should wear the demi-mask now or save it for later and put on some of the glittery makeup that had come with the butterfly get up. She'd finally decided on the makeup.
And then, she watched the clock and tried very hard not to pace. Or sit. Or do anything that would make it necessary for her to touch up makeup or hair before Noah showed up. That was the last thing she'd need.
