Steve was still in a bit of shock as he texted Pepper, asking her to keep Tony occupied for a few hours. It would be better for Peggy if he filled her in first, instead of having everyone completely overwhelm her. Steve could still remember how overwhelmed he felt, waking up after seventy years like it was nothing. Peggy was a smart woman, though. She'd have no problem adapting to technology and she'd probably just take everything all in stride. It was a blessing to be able to know her again the way he remembered her. It broke his heart every time he went to visit her in the nursing home, only for her to forget him halfway through or not remember a previous visit. Her memory was hit or miss, in his time. After giving her his apartment number, Steve straightened things up a bit.
It would have been a lie to say he wasn't nervous, but Steve tried not to let it show. Peggy would, no doubt, be able to read it in his expression, which would be exactly the way he remembered her. There were some things he just didn't know how to say, and things he realized he wanted her opinion on. Peggy had seen him, when he was a skinny little nothing and had liked him. She was one hell of a woman, though he'd never say those exact words out loud. Bucky being in Test City was occupying a lot of his time lately, but he'd put aside his worrying for a few hours to catch up with someone so important to him.
When the knock came on his door, Steve took a deep breath. He knew on an intellectual level that there wasn't anything to be nervous about, but he felt a little like he'd been thrust onto the dance floor with no sense of how to move to the rhythm. Steve quirked a little smile, recalling that Peggy had once offered to teach him. Maybe she still could. He opened the door for her, his smile growing wider. Peggy looked exactly as he remembered her.
"It's good to see you, Peggy."
Steve fought the urge to sweep her up into his arms, instead stepping aside to let her in. "We've got a lot to talk about. Do you want tea? Coffee?" He wanted to be a good host, after all.
