EPILOGUE

You're heroes. Of course you were going to find the Derleth campus, captive under the strange city with its are-they-or-aren't-they inhabitants. The City would argue that the campus never treated you especially well. The city would argue here it could give you everything you ever wanted. Then again, the city never tried actually talking to any of you, did it?

It just took you all for itself.

The question is: would the city's plan have worked? Did it really ever have the power to hold you all here? Many have tried, mostly among your own number. No one has been successful so far in the effort to find a more stable base of operations.

Maybe the better question is: would the city have been so bad?

DENOUEMENT

Underneath the city is a barren liminal space. The great trees that cut into the city's mostly brutalist architecture above, extend deep underneath this pocket world. Their purpose becomes clear: the roots of the city in this underground space are both the prison and prison guard.

Magically and scientifically speaking: the roots appear to be feeding on the energy of Derleth, perhaps to keep it powerless from resetting or to use as a food source, or both. Maybe the strange city was only trying to distract you as it fed on your home.

Maybe you would have been next.

The following is a traditional IC/OOC event:

Each player may select ONE role from the list below if it's restricted to one or two people.
Some roles will be unlimited/open to multiples. You may put additional characters in those roles.
Some roles will have restrictions or pre-requisites. Please read the descriptions carefully!

ROLL CALL

Role 01: Smart Cookie Khushi/Fen!
You managed to decipher Fen's post regarding the map. Her map wasn't wrong. The spell is good. What if Derleth is under the city? Restrictions: need to reply to Fen's post. Limit One.
Role 02: Navigator Dyan/Dustin!
You know where to go, how to get to the entrance that will lead the others underground. It was on crazy bus ride. The city kept trying to keep you away from the entry to the underground. Restrictions: must have participated in Loki's IC/OOC event. Limit One.
Role 03A: Leading the Charge Marty/MCU Loki!
You're putting the team together. It's up to you to gather up the information, rally the troops and get everyone willing to help under the city. Restrictions: must get mod approval/have shown leadership. Limit One.
Role 03B: I Have a Plan! Dawn/Rick!
Seeing who you have, knowing their capabilities, getting all the information, you come up with the idea to free Derleth from The Lonely City. Restrictions: must come up with an idea using the taken roles here and pitch it to the mod for approval first. Limit One.
Role 04: Info Dump (Magic/Psychic Edition) Immi/Illyana!
Underground, when you see what's happening to the campus under the city, you're able to tell the others what the city is doing to Derleth on a magical/psychic level. Restrictions: must have magic/psychic type powers. Limit One.
Role 05: Info Dump (Science Edition) Kori/Tilly!
Underground, when you see what's happening to the campus under the city, you're able to tell the others what the city is doing to Derleth on a science/engergy/biological level. Restrictions: must be a science type person. Limit One.
Role 06: MacGuffinators (Jessica/Hunter + Zee/Percy!)
Two of you manage to put something together to fight/find/confuse the city. One of you must have found a piece of the Derleth, the other using science/magic/some kind of power to create the MacGuffin. It won't save the day, but it probably saved some of your friends from a gruesome end. Restrictions: one participated in this ic/ooc post, the other should have macguffin making abilities. Limit Two.
Role 07: Demolitions Expert (Christie/Clint)
Obviously we're going to need some explosions to free the campus from these massive root things. Obviously. Restrictions: should be a character that is good with explosions. Limit One.
Role 08: Tanks Open! (Thor, Stevie, Carver, Natasha, Peter, Steve Rogers, Jim Jimenez...)
What does a tank do? They're typically fighters, the toughest in the group that can take a lot of hits, and basically make up the front line of the battle. Can fight with firearms/magic/powers/whatever. Restrictions: should be tanky. Unlimited.
Role 09: DPS Open! (Marc, Kira, Melissa, Laudna, Percy, Kate Bishop, Sylvie, Yelena, Vax, 616 Bucky, Rocket, 616 Loki, Varric, Ana, Obi-Wan, Luz, Pike, Kirk...)
DPS means "damage per second." They need to avoid getting smacked around, but in return they can probably do heavy amounts of damage with firearms, magic, etc. May be ranged or close combat. Restrictions: again, should be dps-y. Unlimited.
Role 10: Healers Open! (Stephen, Sam, Jon, Moiraine, Mal, Orlin...)
Maybe it's healing magic, technology or just medical expertise. People are going to get hurt. Your abilities are going to be needed. Even if it's just playing the role of ambulance and getting the injured out of the battle. Restrictions: probably should have some healing skills of some sort. Unlimited.
Role 11: Benched Open! (Paul...)
You want to help! But maybe you don't have your powers this week or you're a minor. (Or both!) You're stopped or talked down from being allowed to help out this time. Restrictions: find a character to talk yours down or stop them somehow. Unlimited.

SETTING THE SCENE:
➜ Underneath The Lonely City looks almost like a barren, abandoned subway station on steroids
➜ The space is massive and dark. How massive, you might ask?
➜ Giant tree roots suspend the buildings of Derleth from the ceiling of this space, feeding on them.
➜ Better to let them crash down to the ground or try to release the campus more gently?

ATTACK OF THE CITY:
➜ The roots of the trees are not just great for draining the life out of buildings!
➜ They're also great for creating barriers, smacking people around, and...
➜ Draining the life out of you, negating/absorbing your powers, or both! (Those of you with healing factors might not walk away from this as unscathed as you throught.)

	Rick'll be using his portal gun to get himself (and anyone else) onto the campus. From then, it's fighting his way through roots and whatever else to get to each of the sonic catapults he'd made. He has to tweak each one of them. (Reply to this) (Parent)

Melissa and (at the start before anyone's injured) Sam are both able to fly up to reach buildings! And since both of them have some kind of shielding ability they'll actually be super useful for moving around up there. Melissa's are more flexible with size but Sam's don't rely on superhuman powers so can't be negated or absorbed in the same way.

At some point in the fight Kira will probably try to see if her foxfire can disrupt whatever weird magic or science is powering the roots, but they'll overpower and drain her. She'll try to escape and get whomped, possibly fall a bit of a height as well, and be killed on impact. ☠️

	Clint could try shooting the root supports on a smaller, nonessential building, like the sign or a statue or ferris wheel ort something as a heads up as a test of principle since he's the explosion guy. Hunter could catch that. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Moiraine is a little more self-sacrificing than she seems. She'll stay on the fringes of the fighting as much as possible, though she isn't helpless, even without the Power, but she'll only wade in if she feels it's necessary for obvious reasons.

Her Healing is fairly efficient, if not entirely pleasant. It takes energy from her and from whoever is being Healed, the more significant the injury, the more energy it will drain. They might end up exhausted and hungry. But the process itself essentially involves her grasping one's head at the temples, Delving to identify the injuries and their extent, followed by the Healing weave, which is often described as something like being dunked into freezing water.

If anyone cares to have such an experience during or after the fighting, let me know! We will work it out. She'll let herself collapse from exhaustion without someone to stop her (and said person isn't here) so minor or serious, I'm open to whatever.

	FEN CAME PACKING! Well, mostly with her knives. She went for hits from far as possible as she could, by throwing them right at the roots. She got some in but at some point she got hit by a branch on her side which means yay cracked ribs. It's going to hurt too much to get up and she's also super afraid of using any spells again. While Sylvie is not playing tank, that doesn't mean squat when you've got flailing roots slapping all over the place. Sylvie tried to enchant them, but had a hard time with it. She kept trying and at one point, she almost ALMOST thought she was getting somewhere when the root system she was holding onto started bucking like a horse, taking her with it. She might be stronger than most, but getting slammed over and over again into the ceiling and the ground will eventually take it out of you. She was flung somewhere so if anyone wants to find her.

Attacking a bunch of tree roots and trying to prevent people from getting smashed by them had not been on Orlin’s BINGO card for the week, but he tried his best not to let the absurd chaos of the situation distract him from his duties. He may have been a bit bumbling in his normal everyday life, but when there was a medical emergency he was a completely different person. In control. Calm. Prepared. He was just finishing patching up someone else when he saw Sylvie flying through the air after getting repeatedly slammed into the ground. He raced towards her, dodging dangling roots and avoiding magical blasts.

He crouched down beside her, placing his palm on her forehead to keep it still while he flashed a small penlight in her eyes. “Sylvie? Are you okay? Can you hear me? It’s Orlin. You took a pretty bad hit. If you can hear me try not to move too much while I have my tricorder check for damage.”

LOKI and Mischief will be battling against the tree roots in the underground subway station. While he has his daggers on him for close range, it'll be quickly obvious to him that magic is the way to go. So, he'll probably be showing off some magical abilities that will make the Avengers wonder why he didn't use them during the Battle of New York. (The Answer? Ego.) But regardless, he'll be keeping an eye out for anyone who needs assistance. And if you're looking to help just follow the flashing green lights and the sound of kitten hissing.

OBI-WAN's lightsaber seems to have been made for this fight. It easily slices through the smaller tree roots. Granted, this just makes the larger roots angry. Which means he's constantly under barrage of tree-attacks. At one point one of the branches will wrap around him like a boa constrictor, locking his arms and preventing him from effectively using his lightsaber. All the while choking the life out of him. Anyone around to help?

ORLIN is scurrying from one injury to the next, patching people up who can keep on fighting and trying to drag those who are too injured out of the subway and back to the ambulance for better treatment. He might be super friendly on campus but if you try to deny his medical care during this battle he will knock you out with a hypospray.

SPOCK has been keeping away from the fight. But at one point he considers mindmelding with the tree roots (and thus the city) to communicate with it and try to negotiate a ceasefire. Should he do this? What would happen?

Being as Obi-Wan is the first person Yelena ever knew to disappear and then come back without any memory of having known her, she's still kind of weirded out about it. But that means she's more likely to help him if she sees him in trouble even though they're kind of still strangers to each other - and this might just be me wanting an excuse to get a lightsaber in Yelena's hands, but the easiest way for her to help him is to take it off of him and use it to slice the branch so it lets him go. She'll give it back immediately! Promise!

Alina is going to end Pretty Fucked Up after this. She's practiced enough with her powers that she can make a sufficient cutting motion with them (think lasers) and so she'll manage to do some serious damage to the roots. BUT she's also not exactly able to do that AND make a shield for herself so she gets either attacked by another or it decides her power is a good enough boost. She won't die, she won't pass out, but she'll need to be carried away, fo sho.

Open to anyone wanting something jacked up to hit.

After doing the 'smoke' bombs to distract and slow down parts of the tree system, Hunter joined the main fight below. He'd been pretty good at shaking off any roots from taking hold, but in a moment of distraction (if you want to be the distraction, let me know), the roots make a concentrated attack. They grab him from the back and wrap around his chest, tendrils digging through his shirt into his skin. He struggles a moment before going still when the roots tap into the Galdorstone within him. His eyes will glow blue as well as the light creeping along his vein lines and up the roots that are draining him, which will give them a boost thanks to the power boosting properties of the stone.

He'll drop his staff in the process, so Flapjack will be flying around and would help out a rescue party.

OOC I imagine he won't be attached too long before getting detached so he's just hurt badly. But anyone who want some hyped up plants, go for it!

Luz is already injured a bit from her chaotic magic & beast mode fighting against roots, but she's going to go a bit beresker when she sees Hunger get grabbed.

She'll attack the roots with everything she has - magic and beast so they let go of Hunter. Of course, since the roots are jacked up on galdorstone, she's not going to stand a chance, but hey, at least she hopefully helped free Hunter.

... it just cost her.

[CHRIS PIKE] Is doing DPS stuff. He'll be staying close with Ed. Armed with sword and pistols, he's doing some hacking, slashing and shooting himself, but also pulling out the strategy skills, calling out commands/helpful pointers to others if he sees weaknesses to exploit or things that could help. Your fuckery co-captains are here.

Chris ends up Pretty Fucked up (as does Ed), but the two of them manage to limp out of the fight.

[LUZ] After Loki turns her human again, she'll be attacking the roots with fire and claws. She's in full chaos mode, bouncing between uncontrolled magic and beast mode. She'll be dealing a fair amount of damage but also taking a lot, and isn't going to make it out alive. :(

[TILLY] is in full science mode! As soon as loki & them give the word, she'll head down and draw on her mushroom knowledge to try and figure out what the roots are doing. She'll be recruiting folks (Spock, Ben, etc?) and will be relying on other folks to protect her while she's trying to figure out a way to prevent the roots from sucking people's / the city's energy. It's a little deja vu -esque for her.

Ends up bloodied.

[JIM JIMENEZ] is doing their thing. Protecting the more fleshy folks - or magic / science folks who need protecting. They move quickly and are enjoying fighting for something besides revenge. Ends up bloodied.

Ben was with Team Science! At least until buildings almost smooshed people and he realized that was his circus and his monkey, then he went to go help Clint. But still required help from team science because three people doing math on the fly is better than just one, right? Give him all the best suspension plans for his webbing y'all.

Hunter is very not ok with the Luz situation. :-[

SHARON is going to be working near Loki as much as possible. Using his magic to help with a back-up for her guns. She is wishing that she had an axe to deal with these roots. She'll do alright, until she doesn't. A root is going to get the better of her and lift her up, throw her against one of those concrete walls, and she's not going to get up.

HUGH is coming in to help with triage. He'll try to stay close to others who can do more than he can, but also will be trying to help anyone he can. He hasn't managed to attune his sword yet, but that doesn't mean he won't have it with him, hacking branches and roots that are in the way and harming others.
