empire city: day seven, an ic/ooc event

IT'S A HEIST
THE TARGET
One Loki Laufeyson, god trapped on the wrong side of the material plane. It would be madness to release the architect of the Battle of Empire City, but who better to answer questions about the gods?

...Probably quite a few people, actually.
THE LOCATION
None other than DSS Headquarters, a highly secured facility in Empire City. The only place that could safely contain The God of Mischief. The DSS deals with aliens, magic and the supernatural. You'd have to be out of your mind to want to steal something from them...
THE THIEVES
A small group of scrappy hedgewitches. Is this a bad idea? Yes. Will it likely go wrong? Also yes. Are they doing it anyway? Of course.

Lucky for them there might be members of the DSS who have at least a passive interest in letting the Asgardian trickster go free...

→ This was Julia's idea. Are we really surprised?
→ She's the one that enlisted her fellow hedges for this one.
→ May have also gone to a certain vampire for intel
→ Between her and Ben they have enough info on how the DSS operates to think they can actually do this, lol

So Mobius KIND OF had a feeling this was going down and given his position as an AD you'd think he'd be like "no, stop, don't" but he's conveniently whistling nonchalantly as this goes down.

Because reasons.

Consider him an accomplice, I guess? He's been in and out of Loki's holding area (heh) a million times so I guess he could maybe help with any logistics or be someone on the inside?

→ Accomplices are going to be why they get out of this, tbh.
→ Will likely need people in charge to have security send people the wrong way/misdirect
→ Also if the DSS has some security feature that the hedges don't know about, they might been a little more behind the scenes help. >.>
→ Will the hedges have any clue Mobius helped or is he one smooth mofo who no one suspects?

Well, since he's in charge he can probably help with that misdirection OOPS

And if they want to know he helped, that's cool?

Ben spent some time near DSS reading a Stephen King-esque novel and sipping coffee and listening to any people who were talking about security things.

He also slipped them keycoards from some janitors during this time.

Is it crazy? Yes, but everything about this world feels a little off to him, so why not?

→ I mean, compared to the men in his family, Ben did a lot more planning than they did
→ But also DSS > Deathstar, in terms of security and general competence
→ In my bones there needs to be a costume change, possibly multiple, where they start as janitorial in dickies, then have nice agent type clothes under the dickies, it's pretty much the law of heists
→ Did Julia pull a "😗 ...for luck." Yes. It is the law that I must make low key star wars references whenever possible.

Another thought: what are these idiots doing to protect their identity? Magic masks? Illusion spells that make them look like someone else? Possibly one thing that also goes wrong/gets undone in their heist?

→ If they get caught, they're going to be put away for a long time, so all their methods are generally non-violent
→ Think sleeping/knock out kind of spells for any of the DSS NPCs that get in the way, that kind of thing
→ The security cameras are enchanted to play on a loop and not show what's going on, that at least buys the hedges time
→ But there are anti-magic security measures that need to be disabled in order to spring Loki, that's actually the hardest part
→ Naturally something needs to go wrong. Possibly multiple things.
→ Any DSS agents want to help these idiots on the sly?
→ Any DSS agents want to try to stop these hedges and get whimsically thwarted?

WE DOING SOME SMOL TAGS BACK AND FORTH
[info]juliawicker
2022-05-14 07:27 pm UTC (link)
Things haven't gone wrong. Not completely. Just a little wrong. The gravity of how wrong this heist is about to go hasn't fully hit Julia yet.

She entered the room with Loki's cell, and though the moment should have been more dramatic, there wasn't time to fully take him in yet. Julia was dressed in the drab coveralls of the security staff, enchanted glasses that made her face impossible to place (but not the rest of her), and a mop bucket which was enchanted to appear full of gray colored water, but really just hid contraband underneath.

Julia undressed in a hurry, nearly oblivious to the prisoner on the other side of a heavily fortified cell. Underneath the coveralls, she wore a suit and button up blouse; elegant, professional, practical. She quickly switched out the janitorial badge for that of an agent's. Ben was taking care of the anti-magical properties on the prison cell itself that kept Loki from using tricks to escape.

Julia's hand reached into the wheeled mop bucket and pulled out dry paper; a word as bond. She placed the magical contract against the clear wall of Loki's prison cell. It was then she noticed him. His dark hair seemed familiar, maybe something about his eyes. She buried the observation for later.

"I'm not letting you out unless you sign this."

The terms were written simply, but clearly. The hedgewitches would release Loki. They would not do anything to assist with his recapture or betray him during their escape. In return, Loki would murder, harm or betray the hedges upon his release. He could choose to escape with them or make his own way. He did, however, have to reveal everything he know about the goddess Idunn's location to Julia.

Despite the brave face, Julia felt like a mouse standing up to a very hungry cat.

When Loki was in his cell he didn't have the power dampening collar around his neck. It wasn't necessary. There was an entire system in place on this particular floor of the DSS to prevent him from using his abilities. But the presence of Julia (finally!) was at least a little bit encouraging that some of those failsafes had indeed, well, failed. But that didn't include his quaint little enclosure. Not yet at least. Which was why he didn't have an elaborate wardrobe change to match her own. Which he absolutely would have done because Loki adored an entrance. So, for the time being, at least until she brought down whatever barrier kept him from decimating the walls around around him, he was stuck in his drab prison DSS coveralls. How dull. How tedious.

Unlike Julia who, despite their history, never ceased to amuse Loki. To impress him. To hold his interest.

And then the crux.

"Ah, there's the rub." Loki grinned. Then he leaned in towards the glass to look at the magical contract she'd constructed. "Deja vu, darling. How many times are we going to parlay like this before you finally agree to trust me?"

He caught her eye then. That mischievous glimmer not unlike a certain goddess's playful gleam.

"How exactly do you expect me to sign it if you don't let me out? Will you accept me on my word? A virtual pinkie swear? Should I cross my heart and hope to die?" Loki flipped his hair over his shoulder. "If it's just a statement you need, then yes. I accept your terms. I always accept your terms. You should know this by now."

Kovacs had his gun trained on quite a few people during the escape, but there's a slight issue. In like, he knows them, or has seen them on the Network. He's a cold-hearted bastard at the worst of times, and could easily gun everyone down in a matter of seconds, but he's no idiot.

So they get away. Even Loki.

→ Whatever their original escape route was, it has to be blocked. That is the law of story telling.
