"Masquerade! Paper faces on parade. Masquerade! Hide your face, so the world will never find you! Masquerade! Every face a different shade. Masquerade! Look around - There's another mask behind you!"

Once all is said and done, it’s time for the grand finale. Nothing is more beautiful than the ball and the town goes all out on it every year. This year’s theme is the Mystery and Magic of the Enchanted Beasts of the Forbidden Forest.

The ball itself will be decorated to look like an enchanted forest and it is encouraged to theme your mask and dress (or dress robes) like a magical creature. Be creative, but remember this is a black tie event hosted by the most old-fashioned of pureblood witches and wizards.

The ball begins at 9pm.

"Masquerade! Grinning yellows, spinning reds. Masquerade! Take your fill - Let the spectacle astound you!"

ooc mod-note: The Masquerade is Saturday.

Fawn made a point of glancing around before taking his arm. "No... only my brother is around and he seems to have taken off somewhere."

Fawn walked with him up to one of the balconies that was empty and smiled. "It's so nice out here."

Hunter nearly laughed at Fawn's play acting. It was so easy to imagine that he was actually someone else, that the real Hunter was sitting, sullen, in some corner, watching the other couples dance. Or that the real Fawn was dancing with Sam, or one of the many other boys who looked at her when she didn't notice. The fresh, cool air felt good on the small amount of skin that was bare to it, but didn't really help clear his head. His thoughts were still fuzzy around the edges.

"I feel like we know each other from somewhere," he smiled, taking her hand in his own. "But perhaps it was just a dream."

"A dream? Yes, I believe you might be right.... I dream of a wonderful night and a dashing young man..." A dream that didnt have them as brother and sister, but instead something that could kiss and touch. "Do you dream of strange women often?"

"None as lovely as you," Hunter replied, moving close to slip his arm back around Fawn's waist. She looked so happy, living out the stories they had shared as children. Hunter had read enough of the stories, to know that they should be touching, and he didn't need to worry about anything, because it was make believe, and they were strangers. He tried not to think of his real dreams, the ones that still crept into his sleeping mind, from time to time. The ones where they rocked against each other, and he cried out her name.

"Which I suppose should tell me this isn't a dream. But I can't even imagine someone as lovely as you, entertaining someone as plain as myself, outside of a dream."

Fawn slid her arms around his neck as she enjoyed the feeling. She'd never admit out loud how much she always wanted to be in such a position with someone just like her brother.

"I fear it may just be the magic of the evening. After all I find myself thinking that there isnt a single man in this whole estate that is anywhere near as handsome as you."

Their embrace was close, intimate even, as they stood face to face out on the balcony. Hunter took some comfort in the fact that they wouldn't be recognized, as a small part of him still understood that they shouldn't be so close. It was only a small part, however. His overwhelming feeling was one of perfection, that this was how they were meant to be. Strangers, who knew everything about each other, or lovers perhaps, yet to be.

Lovers.

Hunter's head swam.

"Yes," he whispered, looking the short distance into familiar eyes. "The magic of the evening."

Fawn slid her had up gently to his cheek, and glanced up into his eyes, loving the vibrant color of them. "A perfect moment created together that poets write sonnets about."

She wanted nothing more than to move to her toes and kiss him softly, but even in this game of pretend, there was a small part of her that was warning against it. This was only a game and could never honestly happen... could it?

Poetry. There was no other word, in any language, that so clearly described what Hunter was feeling. Every poem, every sonnet that had ever moved him, stood personified in the form of his sister, pressed against his body, her hand on his cheek. The words of a long forgotten poem seemed to come to him, as though through magic.

"I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where."

Hunter took the hand that held his cheek in his own, moving to press it against his chest, where his heart beat wildly.

"I love you simply, without problems or pride: I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when I fall asleep your eyes close."

And with no thought to reason, or right or wrong, Hunter leaned in and kissed his Fawn, at last.

His words brought a tightening in her chest. They were so beautiful and she had never felt so loved in all of her life. Tears burned at the edge of her eyes, threatening to fall.

The kiss only seemed natural and Fawn leaned up to meet his lips with her own. Warmth flooded her chest and pitted in her stomach at the feel of his lips against her's. They fit perfectly. It was so different from their kiss at the night club.

The kiss was soft and warm, and Hunter was filled with a sense that it was something he should have done long ago. The questions that had filled him for months about right or wrong, all were gone.

Fawn tasted like lip gloss and mint, and... familiar.

It all seemed oddly familiar, like the dream that Hunter had been having since DC. Since they had danced together in the club and he had...

"My god," he whispered, as he pulled away. "I kissed you. I've kissed you before."

This kiss was everything she wanted and more. Nothing had felt so right and she never wanted it to stop. It was so much better than the drunken kiss that he had given her before.

Fawn blinked up to him, thinking that he was still playing out the story and offered a shy dreamy smile. "When? In your dreams at night?"

Fawn looked beautiful, and for a moment Hunter almost let himself get distracted by her shy smile and the flush to her cheeks. It was only the steadily strengthening memory of what had happened before that kept him moving forward.

"I kissed you, at that club in DC," he said, with a pain to his voice. Now that he was remembering it clearly, he was ashamed of himself.

"And you never said anything. I thought it was just a dream."

Fawn glanced up at him confused at first. It took her a moment to realize what he was actually talking about. DC... He was remembering what had happened finally.

"Hunter.... You didn't remember and I didn't want to upset you if you didn't. It wasn't a big deal."

Fawn had to ignore the sudden urge to cry. Why was he bringing it up now? Why did he have to ruin their moment together and the magic of it with reality.

Without even thinking, Hunter reached back and unlaced the ribbon of his mask, pulling it off into his hands. They weren't two strangers, meeting on a dance floor, in a fairy tale. They were Fawn and Hunter Dale, a brother and sister, who loved each other more than anything in the world. He didn't want a mask to get in the way of the truth.

"I kissed you," he repeated again, as though it would all make sense if he said it enough. "I'm sorry, it wasn't right," he pleaded. "I don't even remember it clearly, but I know that it wasn't right. It wasn't like this."

Because this was right, of that he had no doubt any more.

Fawn fought the urge to jump away from him when he removed her mask. Hunter was ending their moment, ending the dream where it was ok to be out here and to kiss like they had and to crave another.

She tried to blink away the pain and the tears when he said it hadn't been right. He didn't want this. She was so upset that she almost missed the rest of the words. It hadn't been like this? This was right then.

"Hunter?" She asked, confusion and curiosity obvious in her voice.

"Everything in the world has told us this is wrong, Fawn," he said, his voice thick with emotions that he couldn't even name. It was more than just the twist of arousal in his gut now. It was fear, and hope, and overwhelming joy. He couldn't help but smile, despite the fear.

"Mother and father warned us about it, before I was too young to even understand. At least once a week I hear some joke about pureblood brothers and sisters being too close. Everything is telling me this is wrong... except every fibre of my being knows that it is right."

Fawn listened to her brother. He was right. She knew what everyone thought and would say about their relationship. It was wrong. They shouldn't be so close, but she'd never felt so much with anyone else in her life. And the look on her brother's face was so happy, she couldnt see how this could be wrong if it made them so happy.

"It does feel right... being with you like this..."

Hunter's heart felt like it would explode, when Fawn said that she returned his feelings. He had known it somehow, deep inside, but it was a relief just to hear her say it.

"I love you, Fawn," he said softly. The words were familiar, words that he had said a million times. But now there was something new to them, a depth that he had never understood before.

Fawn felt her cheeks turn a dark red at his confession. The tone of his voice and the way he said it was so very different than what it used to be.

Her heart fluttered in her chest as she suddenly felt very shy as she looked down trying to hide how his words affected her. "I love you too..."

Hunter took the step in that parted them, cupping his hand along Fawn's cheek and kissing her again. She was the first girl he had ever kissed, and every bone in his body told him that she would be the only one. When the kiss finally ended, after what seemed like a lifetime, Hunter didn't move away, but stayed close enough to whisper to her.

"Can we go?" he asked, their noses almost touching. "I will stay if you want to but, can we go home? I just want to be alone with you, away from all these people."

It was so easy to get lost in the moment as they kissed. It felt so right as her body pressed against his. This moment changed everything, but did so in such a wonderful way.

When he pulled away, Fawn was tempted to tilt her head up and recapture his lips again. "Alright... let's go home..."

Though his mind was in a million different places, Hunter knew enough to slip his mask back on, doing up the ties. It had been a risk to take it off in the first place, though he was sure they hadn't been seen.

"Thank you," he whispered, offering Fawn his arm. For now, all he wanted was to slip into bed with his sister, comforted by the knowledge that whether it was right or wrong, they would face things together.
