"It's like in the great stories... The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end, because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines, it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why."
Greetings from your morning drabble mod. What prompt are we on? Ten? Really? You guys are insane, it's like you were writing every hour or something!!!

Veronika’s call came as he cracked open the second vodka bottle. She’d always had a knack for bad timing.
“Deniz showed up here.”
“I figured.”
A long pause, then, “Says he wants to move back to Munich.” Strange that he could hear her careless shrug even on the phone. She wouldn’t welcome her son, but at least she wouldn’t say no.
Twenty years ago, he’d welcomed a tiny wrinkled creature into the world, and known from the first relentless squalls that his life would change forever. He just hadn’t expected this.
