I don't think I could ever read it, myself - it'd be weird with an Australian accent
Don't say that! Accents are awesome! And sexy! A lot of people worry if their accents don't match that of the show but, really, unless you're going to be doing funny voices and trying to sound like the characters, it's not like having a different accent is all that different from a female reader speaking on behalf of a male character.

Hell, I just read a podfic from the POV of a German man, in English, with a Canadian accent. I've also done podfics for British shows (Torchwood) and some of my favourite podficers (for American shows) are British, Australian or French.

Some listeners have issues with accents but just as many love having the variety. I'll admit, I often enjoy podfic read by someone with a different accent than me more than people with a similar accent (if someone with a similar accent to me pronounces something differently than I would, it throws me out of the story, whereas if they have a completely different accent I chalk it up to different dialects and ignore it).

Haha, I can totally understand the squirm.
God, when I was still living with my parents my mom once walked in on me recording in the middle of a sex scene *dies*

Also, [personal profile] general_jinjur, the one who owns the podfic archive, has said more than once that she's afraid that one day someone in RL will recognize her voice as the one to read that fisting podfic! :P

I'll admit that there have been a few times where I've blushed into my mic but what I actually find more difficult to listen to are the funny/sad parts. This is mostly because I listen to podfic in public (mostly at work) and people look at you funny when you laugh out loud or are sitting at your desk crying.

Oh, wow, yes, embarrassing! More than embarrassing! *dies a little for you* Haha, yes, people tend to look at you funny! I do that in class, though not with podfic. If we're on computers, I'll just sit there in hysterics of some sort or another whilst trying not to draw attention to myself. Not. Easy. Hehe.

Re:Accents. That's true. I'd rather listen to someone with a different accent to myself. Only, Australian accents have this horrible habit of being kind of horrible. Haha. It'd have to be just the right person. Which, I suppose, applies to all accents, so moot point, but yes. Some Australian accents are SO nasal, haha.
