Is this year done being horrible yet? Excuse me while I spend the rest of the day burrowed under some blankets, hiding from everything. |

Happy winter solstice! Every day from here on out is another day closer to warmer temperatures, blossoming flowers, and more sunshine. I'm proud of myself for not asking to spend it at Stonehenge as I think that would have been as hectic as spending New Years Eve in Times Square, in its own way. Okay, maybe not, but there'd have been way too much of a crowd.
Stay where it's warm, drink lots of hot drinks, and have a lovely break regardless of what you do (or don't!) celebrate. Also have a wintery playlist. |

Okay! So study groups are still an option throughout this week, I'm requesting use of a study room the rest of the week that we can come and go in, and generally knock out some reviews/chapters/study guides in. I'll update this tomorrow once I know which room, so keep an eye out for that if you're interested.
More importantly though, the stress relief party! I'm thinking Saturday or Sunday, likely starting earlier in the afternoon and going until early evening. Nothing too late, or too wild, in the student lounge of whichever dorm building most of the guests will be from. We'll have food, games, (non-alcoholic) drinks, and movies or something fun to watch in the background. Does anyone have a preference of days? Or times to start? Also we have a handful of games we can play but any requests or suggestions are great!
Completely unrelated, who can I talk to about the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 trailer? I have feelings.
EDIT Study room #3 from 9am-8pm Friday! The party will kick off around 11 on Saturday and will go until around 8, feel free to come and go, you certainly don't have to stay for the whole thing but you're very welcome to say hi and hang out if you'd like. There will be food, music, and games. It'll be fun! |

Since finals are coming up, I thought I would ask if anyone wants to get together for study groups? They can be general, or more specific by subject matter if people will need to ask questions/get specific assistance. Or both, if need be! Relevant picture is relevant.
And/or a get-together of some sort to blow off steam and relax and do everything except think about classes? I feel like that might be very necessary, too. |

Most people probably won't care about this, so I'll put it behind a cut, but I had talked with a few people about costumes and the like that I've worked on, and about going to New York Comic Con. I know San Diego Comic Con is a bigger deal and harder to get to, but if anyone was planning on going or hoping to, and wanted ideas on how to make a costume, maybe based off of what I've done before I could help with that? Or if you were on the fence about whether the panels were interesting, maybe this little line-up might convince you? I don't know, I'm rambling. ( cut! ) |

Goodbye summer |
[Sep. 21st, 2016|08:18 pm] |
I know a lot of people love summer, but I've been waiting for months and months for fall to hit. Sweater weather, cocoa, apple cider, fruit pies, fresh baked bread on a crisp fall morning -- it's the best. Tomorrow is Alban Elfed/Mabon/the autumn equinox and I couldn't be more excited, even if the weather is decidedly not autumnal yet. I'm hoping to get some celebrating in before the day starts to heat up, but we'll see. On the plus side, I am looking forward to this weekend very much. Sixties! It's going to be wonderful. It also means it's almost New York Comic Con and I'm so excited I'm going to spontaneously combust |

It's last minute, which I apologize for, but would anyone be interested in a (pg) study break and mental health night tomorrow (Wednesday)? I was thinking a movie or two, snacks, games, things like that, maybe starting around 6? And if you feel like you need to earn that break, we can have a study session in the library before then for any remaining finals people have going on.
Unrelated but spotted on one of my study breaks tonight, I found yet another list of places I want to see someday, which will probably remain unseen. But it's nice to have goals, I guess?

If anyone wants to get together for a) study groups to prep for finals or b) some type of de-stressing get-together to remember how to breathe and not let our brains melt out of our ears, let me know! It's about that time again and the number of people who look like they're about to run screaming from study rooms in the library is rather daunting.

One of the reasons I initially got interested in environmental science was learning about the hole in the ozone in elementary school, and I've been following some of the changes and effects of what's been happening with it since junior high. Now, MIT researchers have verified that the ozone is healing, and even have hopes that by 2050 it will be closed entirely as long as everyone continues to cut down on CFCs. It's only a little bit of good news especially when compared to all of the bad lately, but it still made me happy today. What are some things that have made you happy recently?

It probably says something unflattering about me that I'm greatly enjoying my Technical Writing class, but not Human Communication. Sometimes I want to wear a button or shirt that warns people about my awkwardness ahead of time but that'd just draw attention, and it's usually better to just stay unnoticed. And not enough people seem to understand that headphones = avoiding conversation. It isn't personal, I promise, it's just better for everyone involved.
On a completely different note: Who you gonna call?

Poor Professor Pynchon had only good intentions when he put his Bunsen burners all away and tuned into a playground: a Petri dish of single cells who swing their fists at anything that looks like easy prey in this nature show that rages every day. It was then he heard his intuition say we were all basically alone. And despite what all his studies had shown what was mistaken for closeness was just a case of mitosis and why do some show no mercy while others are painfully shy? And tell me, doctor, can you quantify ‘cause he just wants to know the reason, the reason why -- why do they congregate in groups of four, scatter like a billion spores and let the wind just carry them away?
Vaguely science-y songs, perfect for nights when you want to study and you want to get crafty. Or rather, finish crafty projects you've been working on for ages and really just need to finish so the bits and pieces of them will stop winding up in all of your drawers and your bed and your shoes... Further recommendations on songs to add to this playlist are appreciated and wanted, please and thank you in advance. And I'd never color my hair because I've got way too much attachment to how it is, but my sister surprised me by sending me a red wig for my costumes and I'm really, really kind of digging it. |

[Private to Roxanne Pruitt, Rowan Teague, and Zachary Nolan] Hello! I may be presumptuous in this, but I believe that none of us are exactly looking forward to Friday's events. Roxy and I were talking and we thought it would be fun to spend that evening together, if we can, and then thought it could be fun to watch a movie or two and have a tea party or something similar, just to further take our minds off of things. She and I can provide the goodies for said party, if we do decide to do that, and we can all vote on the movie?
If you aren't interested, no harm done! Or if you know of one or two other people who might want to join, we can do that as well. We are hoping to keep it a smallish gathering, just to keep things simple, but a couple more people wouldn't hurt.
Let me know if you're in, and we'll sort out details from there. If nothing else, it'll make the evening a bit more bearable to be around friends. |

We survived! No one got eaten by a bear but we did see one in the distance, no supplies were lost to the wild, and it was a lot of fun. I spent an embarrassing amount of time in the bath after getting back to campus, though. On the plus side, I got a lot of really great pictures and sketches for my journal. Did everyone have a nice week off?
