Who: Open
When: 22nd - evening
Where: SHIELD NY ground base
What: Captain gets to the SHIELD base to find it in chaos as Hydra agents try to overtake the base by surprise.
Rating: High in violence
Captain America hadn't been to the SHIELD base ever since he knew Hydra was among them and trying to flush him out. So it had been a long time since he walked through the doors, especially in his full combat gear. The receptionists stood up, looking at him in surprise, but he didn't look at either of them, instead heading to the elevators. One of the receptionists hurried after him.
"Sir, you can't go up. The base has just been ordered into full lock-."
The elevator doors slid closed on her words and he continued up.
The door opened on the second floor. Some men stepped in. The elevator stopped on another floor and more stepped in. Steve's eyes narrowed.
The door opened on his selected floor, and he stepped on the edge of his shield to flip it up into his hands, still shaking off electric shocks and leaving a floor of unconscious individuals. "Hail that, boys," he said while stepping out into the corridor. Two agents were on their way to meet him. His shield sailed as soon as he saw the flicker of motion toward their weapons. Then he hurried on to the Communications center. He could hear what was being said as he opened the doors.
"I don't know what's going on. Our communications are being scrambled," one man was saying, standing up. "I'm going to go reset the..."
"Duck," Steven said. He threw his shield into the Hydra agent raising his gun toward the communications officer. The communications officer ducked only in time. The gun went off just by his ear.
People ducked under at their consoles or pulled out weapons, looking for the enemy, and finding their coworkers staring right back at them with weapons raised. One was slow to react and a Hydra agent that had shared a donut with her that morning pulled her into a headlock with a gun at her temple. Another SHIELD agent aimed their gun at the back of his head. "What are you doing? Let her go!"
Steve looked among those holding guns, those aimed at him, those aimed at SHIELD agents. Everyone was tense and ready to release, but the SHIELD agents were confused and uncertain. "I need to get a communication to Hill and Coulson."
The SHIELD agent aiming at the hostage holder glanced at him. "We've been trying to do that ourself. Our communications are being jammed. We don't know how."
"From the inside by Hydra."
"Hydra..." She pressed her gun to the back of the hostage holder's head. "You?!"
"It doesn't need to go like this," the hostage holder stated. "We've been working together as a cohesive unit for years. All in the same organization. All we need is some cooperation and you will be treated well, know everything. No more compartmentalizing information. No more secrets. A new slate. New world."
"Where the innocent and unique are oppressed," Steve stated. "That's not the world SHIELD is fighting for." He looked at the confused SHIELD agents. "And we're going to take back that mission before you further corrupt it."
"Well... You can try." He shot his hostage and aimed his way. Gunfire went off everywhere, the shield flew. It was over in seconds. Only a quarter of those who had been there were now standing. The one agent was cradling her bleeding arm. Steve hurried over to her.
"We need to get word out. They're moving now and fast and they will shoot those not faithful to them in the back before they even know."
She shook her head. "Nearly everything is locked. They have our system entirely compromised unless we can get to the control station."
Steve thought. "What about overhead?"
~~~
"Everyone, this is Steve Rogers. SHIELD has been compromised by Hydra. They've been worming their way into the organization for years. They can be standing next to you and you wouldn't even know it. They're commencing hostile takeover and will shoot anyone who stands in their way. But if we let them takeover, they will have access to weaponry and carriers that will allow them to oppress civilian populations in an unprecedented way. They will slaughter innocent civilians who do not fit to their standards. We can't allow that. I'm calling on every true soldier, the ones who fight for truth and freedom, to make a stand now against them. The price for freedom is high... I'm willing to pay it, and I'm betting I'm not the only one. Captain out."
