Who: Bruce & Dinah
What: Bruce and Dinah find out some important news, and go for a burrito date afterwards which is interrupted by the dreaded press
Where: Gotham City, NJ
When: Tuesday, Aug 16th [backdated]
Rating: PG
She was a little over sixteen weeks by the time she could get in to see the doctor for her sixteen week check up, but it didn't seem to cause much trouble. The appointment had gone well, involving some boring discussion regarding Dinah's rare blood type, advisement to gain more weight (which Bruce seemed to take immediately to heart), and an otherwise clean bill of health for both the baby and mother.
Not to mention the set of ultrasound pictures they got to take home as souvenirs-- and of course the answer to the million dollar question: boy or girl?
Dinah was glad that Bruce was able to sneak out of WE to join her for this important appointment; and that he could have lunch with her before he had to go back to the office (if he even ended up going back). She'd gotten her pick, and she'd decided to take the chance to make him have a burrito-- from a food truck at that. Burro-ito's food truck was painted with a bright sunflower yellow paint, and decorated with small donkeys and donkey pinatas of various colors. They had parked across the street from Robinson Park, where patrons could sit on the benches to eat. It wasn't the ritziest part of town; but it was safe enough in the day time... though night was a different matter all together.
While they stood in line to order at the truck, Dinah had one of the copies of the ultrasound pictures out, rotating it between her fingers as though to look at the blurry profile of what looked very much like a small human being: head, arms (two), legs (two), and even fingers and facial features. She had to pull herself out of her thoughts to order, and tucked the picture into her purse for safe keeping in the meantime.
"I was starting to get worried." She said absently to Bruce as they waited for their order at the truck window. "I mean, more worried than I was. I thought I should be able to feel movement and I was worried that I wasn't feeling it because..." She didn't finish the sentence as if saying such a thing aloud might make it come true. She almost put her hand on her stomach protectively when she spoke, but stopped herself with her hand halfway there. The doctor had said everything was fine though; in fact, she'd seen the baby move on the ultrasound.
That feeling hadn't been gas after all.
She smiled, then turned to share it with him, "I'll know what to pay attention to now though." And more importantly, she'd be able to tell him, show him when the baby moved. And then he could feel it too.
Once they'd grabbed their order and moved to one of the park benches to sit, Dinah peeled the foil back from her burrito, but sat staring into the distance instead of eating, a little smile stuck on her face, where it had been ever since they had seen the baby on the doctor's monitor.
"I don't know what I was expecting. Maybe you had me believing it. But I can't believe it's a..."
