Who: Bruce Wayne, Dinah LanceWayne, Maria Hill
What: Bruce and Dinah have something very important to tell Maria. Consider it practice for fessing up to Damian.
Where: Wayne Manor, Gotham City NJ
When: Thursday, July 21st
Rating: PG-13 because of Maria's mouth probably.
Dinah was still of half a mind that if she just wore baggy sweats maybe they wouldn't have to tell anyone ever; but that wasn't going to excuse how little coffee she was drinking (or the fact that it was decaf), nor the fact that she wasn't drinking or riding her motorcycle or taking gut punches. Their friends were going to be on to them soon, if they weren't already-- but given the shit show that was sure to ensue once word got around, she had to admit she was enjoying the relative peace as much as possible.
Maria wasn't going to be one of the easy ones; if only because she was loud and opinionated (much like some other people Dinah knew), and squirmed away from anything that vaguely resembled commitment or gender politics. It was likely bad enough that they'd gotten married, thus ruining her hopes to hold them up as the ideal for the perfect, non-legally-bound-but-still-committed couple when Phil started talking about the future. Now Dinah was literally a pregnant housewife of a billionaire who had nothing better to do with her day than go to lunch-- it wasn't like she could get out and bust skulls anymore. She was pretty sure that Maria might very well insist that Bruce engineer a way for him to carry the baby at least half of the time to even the work out between the two genders so Dinah could still be her own person for at least four and a half months. By that logic, her half of the time spent as human incubator was almost up-- which sounded well and good to her. Until he was able to invent such a thing though, she'd have to find something else to do with her time.
But that was a trouble for a different day. Today they were going to tell Maria that they were inadvertently joining the ranks of the conformity by becoming parents. Dinah imagined there'd be some cussing, and a lot of drinking, but she'd come around eventually. She planned to use this as a warm up for when they inevitably had to tell Damian; whose reaction she was already dreading with a clenching feeling welling up in her gut every time she thought about it. The other kids would come around-- but Damian? She honestly didn't have a clue; but she knew what kind of grudges his mother's side of the family could hold.
Again, Dinah pushed the unhelpful thought of her mind and sat on the arm of Bruce's chair, a thoughtful, distant frown on her face as they waited for Alfred to show Maria into the study for-- presumably-- another meeting of their little drinking club.
