Who: Bruce (open to Jason for reaction)
Where: Gotham Cemetery
When: August 16, 2012
What: Bruce leaves Jason a birthday present
Rating: PG
He wondered if Jason was nearby. Sooner or later, Bruce was going to have to look for him, but he couldn't bring himself to do it yet. His hands were full with quite a few other things, but that wasn't his excuse. If he were really honest, he just wasn't prepared for what he was sure he would find.
He left two boxes on the grave, only reasonably sure that Jason would get there first. A leather jacket and two gift cars - one for $100 to local department store, and one for $50 to Mel's Diner; one of the few places in the area where you could still get a decent chili dog. The more personal gift was a poem entitle 'My Boy Jack', written by Rudyard Kipling, and a copy of the play by the same name, written by David Haig, detailing Rudyard's responsibility for getting Jack enlisted in WWI, and how his death at the battle of Loos affected Rudyard.
The bottom box contained cookies, cupcakes, and fudge made by Alfred - all of Jason's favorites, carefully wrapped for preservation.
Bruce didn't stay long. After murmuring a soft, "Happy birthday, son," he touched the marble tombstone as always, turned to spend a few minutes with his parents, then went home to brood a little before returning to work.
The day was coming when he would no longer be able to avoid Jason. As much as he'd always hoped to have Jason back again, the feeling of foreboding haunting him now, made him frown apprehensively. Where were you, Jason? What had happened?
