Cassandra had sometimes heard a saying: 'kill two birds with one stone'. It was quite some time before she'd found out that it meant something completely different than it sounded like. But it was a decent-enough way to describe the concept of using one action to achieve two separate results. That was basically what she had in mind for tonight, if for no better reason than she had lately realized that she was devoting a lot of time and energy each night to two activities that deviated from her usual patrol routine. Sure, they took place on her route, but she hoped that combining the two activities would maximize her time and energy, and allow her to focus her attention on her patrol once she was done.
Of course, there was great potential for this idea to be a disaster. It could make things harder for her instead of easier.
Batgirl finished the customary training warmups with Spoiler, then gestured for her to stand at attention for the next segment of the session. She tended to change up the training regimen on a regular basis, keeping her guessing with the intention of keeping Spoiler's mind alert. If Spoiler didn't know what was coming next, she would be less likely to grow complacent. Sometimes she would launch into free-sparring. Sometimes self-defense techniques. Sometimes throwing-weapon target practice. Sometimes meditation and breathing exercises. Okay, frequently they did meditation and breathing exercises.
But tonight, Batgirl quickly tapped Spoiler on the shoulder and whispered, "tag," before breaking into a run and jump from one rooftop to the next. Rooftop tag was also something they tended to do, as it was a handy excuse to bring Spoiler along on her patrol route and stop some crimes along the way. And from all appearances, this was what Batgirl was going to do as well.
Except this was the first time their game of tag ventured into Park Row, also known as Crime Alley.
