Looking after Patrick on the comedown of his celebration day high was generally a nice kind of task that David enjoyed doing. He loved to look after his brother, be able to provide sustenance and care to keep him from crashing too hard. On this day, he had Patrick curled up on his sofa while he made tea and scones with jam and cream, which was always a warm comfort.
"So have you much planned for the month?" David asked, returning from his small kitchen with a plate of warm scones and a freshly-brewed teapot to fill the teacups already on the coffee table. In the pocket of his cardigan was a letter from Wales. He had collected it on his way from letting Patrick into the building. "What do you think of Sant Dewi writing to me? I hear from him so rarely, it's a treat to get a letter these days. I hope you don't mind me reading it now, I'm just very curious to know what it says."
He sat down on his armchair and filled both his own and Patrick's teacups, gestured to the scones in an offer for Patrick to dig in, then took out the letter and tore it neatly open along the top with the handle of his teaspoon. Picking up his teacup, he settled back to read it.

It has been a while since our last contact. I hope you are keeping well "across the pond", as they say. I am writing today with some news, and I intuit that perhaps you may need to be sitting down for this.
Just before midnight on the night of the 1st, as I was returning to the house I inhabit after my day's prayer and song, I received a powerful prayer from Bridget Ceredig, and I believe it to be intended for you. I will recount it here to the best of my memory as it has just this moment passed- along with, I am terribly sorry to say, her soul. She had the impression of being a passionate, kind, beautiful person. I dare say she will be deeply missed.
"Dewi, please hear me, I think my time is ending and I wanted to speak to you- to see you one last time
