WHO: Kemps
WHAT: Meeting Peter
WHEN: Monday evening
WHERE: Emma's house
WARNINGS: TBA

Desperate not to kill his little sister for being rude, Thomas chose to leave the house instead of listening to her diatribe about being 'kicked out'. Instead he headed over to his mother's house to meet the reason Little was staying with them. Peter hadn't seen his cousin Peter since he was a teenager and Jamie had been a baby. Peter had been in seminary at the time and they had been so vastly different that it didn't make much sense to hang out. Now though-

Thomas let himself and Jamie into his mother's house and headed towards the voices in the living room. Peter was sitting on the sofa looking slightly overwhelmed while Emma fussed about.

Jamie laughed. "Everyone seems to say that," he replied. "So at least you guys are consistent."

Aidan waved as well, taking a seat next to Charlotte. Maddy sat on her other side, snorting as she did so. "You'll probably fall off, and that would be bad," she added.

"Yeah, that's Grandma all over," Jamie told him. "She'll feed you until you can't eat any more, and then she'll send you home with a plate. She just likes to make sure people are looked after."

Peter wasn't used to being taken care of, at least not in this way. He smiled weakly though and nodded. "It's very kind, though I think if I eat anything else it'll come right back out again. So you all...you get together like this often?"

"All the time," Jamie confirmed. "Every holiday, every life event, hell, even if we feel like it's been too long since we all had dinner together. And then the group chat blows up, and an hour later we're all at someone's house."

Peter smiled sadly, thinking about how many holidays he had missed already. "Sheesh, that must be- That sounds really nice. I haven't had a family holiday since- You know what, I think it was when I was fourteen, before my father died. He left me here and jetted off to...who even knows where. And to be honest, I was glad he wasn't here. 'Course by the next year he was dead..."

"It's pretty great," Maddy agreed. "And there's always someone to call if you need something."

Jamie looked over at Maddy, not really sure what to say to that.

Thomas was a little at loss for words as well, but Charlotte charged right ahead. "I remember your dad. He was super scary when I was what...five?"

"He was super scary all the time," Peter said wryly. "None of my time in the hospital was ever as bad as being in his house."

"Wait," Thomas held a hand up, and funny look on his face. "What?"

Peter blinked and glanced towards his cousin. "He was- Surely you remember how horrible he was."

"Once he threw me into a bookshelf," Thomas nodded. "Did he uhm...do that to you?"

"That house was full of bookshelves," Peter said cagily.

"Wait, what?" Maddy and Jamie asked in unison, turning to look at Thomas, then back at Peter.

"This guy was your dad?" Jamie asked. "He sounds like a real winner."

Thomas gave Maddy and Jamie a little half-smile at their concern, but turned back to Peter.

"That's a nice way to put it," Peter said dryly. "I wasn't allowed to speak at the dinner table. Or...ever really, when he was around. And his very favourite thing to call me was 'pansy'."

Emma was hovering just outside the room, looking mutinous.

"Oh, he would have had a field day with me," Jamie muttered. Aidan reached around Charlotte and patted his shoulder.

Thomas glowered at that and he said, "and if he did I would have a field day with him."

"It's cute when he goes all protective," Charlotte grinned. "Last time you went all protective though you did end up in jail for disturbing the peace."

"It was a mall food court, it wasn't really all that peaceful to begin with," Thomas shrugged. "Peter, I had no idea you were going through that. I mean I knew he just dropped you here all the time and that he was scary as hell, but I didn't know-"

"It's alright, I didn't tell anyone either," Peter shrugged. "I think I was always a bit of a burden to him. Doesn't matter, he's gone now. So what have you been doing for the last twenty years, all of you."

"Yes, let's not have you going back to prison, Dad," Jamie agreed. "Once was enough for everyone."

"Well...I was growing up," Jamie continued. "I'm 21 now, 22 in July. Next year is my last year at SVA, which is something I'm not quite ready for."

"I had a baby," Maddy chimed in. "Joss, let me see her." She stood to collect their daughter from Joss. "Her name is Diana, she's 2 now." She smiled down at her daughter. "Can you say hi to Peter, honey?" Diana burbled and waved.

"An artist," Peter smiled at Jamie, "that's wonderful. I'm sure you'll do incredibly well." Beside Peter, Thomas was beaming with pride.

Peter turned to Maddy and all of a sudden, he grinned. "Hi!" he said, waving to Diana. "Oh, I just love babies. Hello, beautiful!"

Joss leaned against Maddy, "you have excellent taste, sir," he informed Peter who laughed.

"As for me, I got married just out of high school but he turned out to be an asshole so Thomas rescued me and I divorced his abusive ass. I've been working on and off and a few years ago I met Aidan. He's an artist too, and wonderful."

"I'm so sorry to hear about your ex," Peter said with feeling. "Nice to meet you, Aidan."

"Thanks," Jamie told him, smiling. "I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do, but at least I know it'll be something I enjoy."

Maddy beamed. "She's the light of my life," she replied, kissing Diana's head. "Well, her and that nerdy guy who keeps showing up, for some reason." She turned and winked at Joss.

Aidan squeezed her hand. "She's amazing," he told Peter. "I'm the lucky one. Nice to meet you too."

"I can see why," Peter said with a charmed smile. "I was always kind of crushed I never got to have kids."

"You still could," Thomas suggested.

"Eh. I'm almost forty and I spent most of my life in an institution. My father was fifty when he had me and it was terrible."

"That's like the opposite of what I did, having Jamie so early. I still think you could do it though. As for me, I raised Jamie and trained as a teacher. I was doing a masters in astronomy but I'm taking a break for a bit to...uh. Well I'm starting a charity for. Just a charity," he said, turning red.

"I honestly didn't think I'd have one at 26, but I wouldn't trade her for anything," Maddy told him. "And I mean, Tommy's right, but it's really up to whatever you want to do."

Peter hadn't ever even had a relationship, despite being head over heels in love with his friend Stuart who had died at the hands of a demon. He was fairly sure he never would have one, so kids were pretty much out of the picture. "You're all very kind," he said anyway.

Emma re-entered, deciding just listening was going to get creepy after a while. "Here we go, snacks for everyone! Eat up, you especially, Thomas."

Thomas made a face, but complied anyway.
