The whole way over to Joey's, Nikkie couldn't stop twisting her fingers around and around. Joey was a good guy, Joey definitely wasn't fucking Poseidon who'd just suddenly disappear out of her life. Still. There was that niggling fear in the back of her mind that one of the best things in her life was about to crumble around her.

When the door opened, though, she smiled and made a turning motion with one hand. "You look fabulous," she told him, laughing. "JJ has excellent taste."

	Joey did as she asked and twirled around, though it wasn't as happily as he might have if he wasn't suddenly terrified something was really wrong. She had said it wasn't but what if that was just to calm him down while she made her way over to his place. "She'll be thrilled you think so. Come in. You need something to eat or drink?" "Some tea wouldn't go amiss right now, thank you," she said, suddenly feeling very awkward and small, like a child reporting to the headmaster.

"Before either of us pops," she began. "You're not in trouble, no one is sick, injured, captured, or missing, and I'm not here to break up with you." She sighed, jamming her hands into her jacket pockets.

"I'm pregnant," she finally said. "I figured, better to tell you in person than over the internet, right?"

Joey had waved her into his kitchen and he was fussing with a tea bag after flicking the switch on the kettle. The moment she mentioned she was pregnant though, he fumbled the mug and it fell to the floor. Luckily it didn't smash.

"You're-" Joey looked over at her and, abandoning the mug, he immediately went to pull her into a hug. "Yes. Yes, in person is better."

	"N-no, you don't have to apologise!" he assured her, rubbing his hands over her back. He dropped a kiss onto her hair and then he leaned back a little so he could see her face. "I'm-" Joey chewed on his cheek and then he looked up at his girlfriend. "I love kids, and I want them. I really do. I guess I'm just scared?" he said. It was the first thing that came to mind. "Only a few years ago I was tortured by Lucifer and then Lena was and her husband and her step son and her Roxanna... If that happened to you or our child, I would be crushed. I don't know that that the remote possibility something might happen is reason enough not to do it, it's just...it's a feeling I have."

Nikkie laughed quietly. "Thank you for the vote of confidence," she told him. "But I know it'll be different, I can always take Bernie back to V when I get tired. I won't have that option now, but that's...that's OK, I think."

"That might be a good idea," she continued. "Because I want you around, but V's place isn't really big enough to house four adults, Bernie, and a newborn full-time."

	"My place is big enough, but you have to decide if you want to live with Xavier." Xavier was amazing and protective, but he used a lot of less than legal drugs to control his condition.
