WHO: Mary Magdalene & Tezcatlipoca
WHEN: Very late Monday night
WHERE: Somewhere (unimportant) in the city
WHAT: Aztecs and Christians, come onnnn dooooooownnnn!
WARNINGS: Violence, language

Mary was far outside of Huitzilopochtli's territory and much closer to her own when she felt the presence of a god of his kind. There was a definite feeling to the Aztecs, one Mary had come to recognize better and better in her time with the Hummingbird.

She just really hoped it wasn't Huitzilopochtli's friend who ate whores. Mary didn't know how reformed she had to be to not get chewed on even a little there.

So she paused in her walking to see if she could hear footsteps, sure that if she could feel the Aztec, the Aztec could feel her too. And then, instead of continuing on her way, she turned around and headed back towards the feeling. Maybe it was Quetzalcoatl. She'd met him and even if he wasn't overly fond of her, she didn't want him to think she was going to run from him. She didn't want any of them to think she was the type to run.

Mary didn't trust this one, not at all. She shrugged in answer to his question and said, "free country."

His smile was thin and sharp, vanishing almost as quickly as it appeared. "If you say so," he replied. "Nothing like it used to be. So much has changed."

In response to his words, Mary repeated what the Aztec had said. "If you say so."

He felt dangerous to her, and and unknown. There was danger in Huitzilopochtli but she didn't fear that. Her Hummingbird she knew, she trusted. They would never bring harm to one another. But this one... he was a mystery and he felt to Mary like trouble brewing. She half wished now that she hadn't left Huitzilopochtli's tonight, that she had stayed there with him instead of making her way across the city and home.

She felt...muddled. Like she'd been marked by one of his kindred, but that didn't make any sense. The Christians had slaughtered his people, why would one of them willingly take up with one?

"You don't make sense," he muttered.

"Excuse me?" Mary asked, taking what he'd said as some sort of insult she hadn't understand. What else could it be. She put a hand on her hip, the gesture defensive and defiant.

That just made him roll his eyes. "Christians feel one way, my kindred feel another," he explained. "You have both, therefore. You don't make any sense."

Her cockiness slipped for a moment then. The idea that he could feel Huitzilopochtli on her, that she'd taken up some sort of spiritual mark from that contact... this wasn't a thing that had occurred to her, but now it appeared to be marking her out to others. That didn't seem like a good thing. Or... maybe it was, in this case?

The front returned to Mary's features and she smiled at the man before her: smug, a liar's smile. "I don't know what you're talking about," she shrugged, unwilling to give away her connection. Should she walk away from this Aztec?

He raised an eyebrow. "Of course you don't," he replied sarcastically, and he shrugged. "Regardless. I'm just calling it how I see it. Take it as you will."

She moved closer to the god and whispered, "maybe you're smelling their blood on me."

She didn't know why she was doing it, why she was goading this god she'd never even met. Was it the discomfort with feeling like she'd been caught doing something bad? Was it something else. Either way, she was feeling antagonistic when she should have backed down and walked away. Huitzilopochtli would have been so ashamed of her if he'd seen it, she was sure.

He had to (grudgingly) admire the antagonism, it was something he would have done himself. She hadn't backed down, and he did respect that, a little.

"Perhaps," he said dryly. "And perhaps the Serpent and I have made up, and are getting a house together."

Not know what he was even talking about, Mary cast an unimpressed gaze down the god and then said, "Whatever you say, Aztec." She moved past him, shoving her shoulder into his as she past.
