WHO: Victor, Rosalind and Aislinn
WHAT: Dinner with the family
WHEN: Tuesday evening
WHERE: Victor's place
NOTES: I didn't tag Rosalind so you could choose her tag

Since the death of his beloved wife, Victor had taken it upon himself to act as a pseudo-big brother to his little sister-in-law. He adored Rose and sometimes it could get close to doting. He had stayed particularly close to his late wife's parents as well, even referring to them as 'Mom and Dad' at their insistence. It meant more to him than he could say. He had lost his family at an early age; that he didn't lose Sarah's when he lost her was priceless.

He had cooked for Rose and her girlfriend Aislinn. He knew Aislinn loved fish (though he did not know it was because she was a selkie) and so he had grilled some salmon. There were baked potatoes and garlic bread and wine. He liked to spoil them when they came over.

When they knocked, he moved to open the door, only to be tackled by a red-headed force of nature. "Oof, hi, Aislinn!" he laughed, giving her a tight hug and grinning at Rose over Aislinn's shoulder.

Victor laughed and he grabbed the food so he could carry it to the table. He set it down and finally took a seat, gesturing that they should eat up before answering.

"Oh...I'd like it to get used eventually," he said, managing not to blush again. "I'm just taking things slow. Last time I didn't and I ended up in the emergency room."

Aislinn remembered that and she screwed up her face. She adored Victor and didn't want him hurt. "Yeah, that isn't allowed this time."

Smiling she released her girlfriends hand to dig into the food. She'd become quite used to seafood and rather liked it. "She has a good point. I'd be rather cross if that happens again." She still didn't understand why he hadn't filed charges.

"But there's nothing wrong with taking it slow. This girl seems worth it. But don't make the mistake of being too slow either." she figured she was allowed o give him some advice. "Take chances. Life is meant to be lived."

Victor took a deep breath and then let it out before reaching for a potato and some sour cream. "You're right. She is worth it and I know she wants to take her time too, but I have been...avoiding life for a while." Victor had confided to Rosalind that he dreamed of Sarah most nights and that it made him feel like he still had a part of her. He did need to move on.

"It's scary though."

At that, Aislinn reached out to rub Rose's back gently.

She smiled to the touch on her back and leaned to Aislinn to kiss her. How would she manage the pain of having lost her sister without her? Rose didn't know, nor cared to find out. But right now it wasn't about her. Even if it was hypocritical of her to offer advice she wouldn't take.

She looked to Victor then and smiled, "of course it is but she wouldn't want this. Trust me, wherever my sister is she's yelling at you." she was fairly sure of that. Then again, she was sure Sarah'd be yelling at her too. "No one will ever tell you to stop loving her. We both know that's impossible. But that does not mean that loving her and letting go is the same thing. I don't know if it will help you, but I go and talk to her whenever I feel stuck. It helps me."

She gave Victor another smile, "and I'm always here if you want to talk too."

Victor chuckled as Rose mentioned Sarah would be yelling at him. "You are not wrong there," he said, amused. Sarah did have a habit of speaking her mind, and he had loved that about her. She would have been horrified with him sitting around and moping.

"I talk to her sometimes, and you're right. Of course you are. Thank you, Rose."

"I am here to help too!" Aislinn chimed in with a grin.

She grinned to Aislinn, "I know you are love. And you help me tons." she wasn't inclined to share though, even if she didn't say that. She gave Victor a smug smile and nodded. "Of course I am. But no, seriously, you are welcome. I've said this before."

She grinned then, "so tell us more about this Kat of yours. We know she's a student and apparently lovely."

After taking a bite of fish, Victor put his fork down and folded his hands. "Well, she works at a magic shop for her...aunt, I think it is. She has two sisters who I have yet to meet, but they sound great. For our first date we played laser tag and I took her to an Australian pub because she lived in Melbourne for several years and I wanted to give her a taste of home."

She had to smile at all that, "It certainly sounds like you like her quite a bit. Did you let her win?" She was sure she'd meet this girl in good time, but there wasn't any rush about it, "and it sounds like she has a fairly big family."

"I tried to go easy on her and she kept tricking me and getting shots off. She didn't need me to let her win," he said with a smile. "I think she does, yes. We haven't talked a great deal about them, but I have also become close with her cousin. She's the woman who was over here and pulled out the waffle maker. Her name is Aoife and she lived in Ireland for a while," he said to Aislinn who, by his knowledge, had been born on a tiny island in Ireland and had come to live in America for the opportunities it gave."

Aislinn grinned and she ate her fish happily.

She chuckled to that, "good. You shouldn't have tired to let her win anyway. It's never the winning that's truly important. And if it is, then somethings wrong." She smiled to Aislinn and finished her meal. "If I'm prying let me know but why was her cousin here? She said she'd spend a few days here, but was there reason for it?" She made a face, "now I sound like I'm judging you."

"You're not prying, Rose, you're family." He smiled fondly at her and took another bite before continuing. "Aoife lost a family member recently and I was one of the people at the scene. And since my partner is useless at being human, I took her away and talked to her. I explained I knew what it was like to lose family and she just sort of kept coming back over the next few weeks to talk about things. Eventually we worked out we had Kat in common. And she ended up here and stayed the night because everything hit her while she was out and she didn't want to go home. I was glad she knew she could come here, though I have no idea how she knew where I lived..."

"It is surprisingly easy to stalk people nowadays, but I'm still glad the poor girl knew she could trust you." It was good to know victor wasn't hiding anymore either. "And are you still partners with that one man, what's his name?" She frowned then it clicked, "Michael. If he's still not too great, why in the world is he still on the force? I'm sure he's great with solving things but still." She had suspicions but it was hardly fair to use Aislinn for hunting out every immortal she felt existed. "You should bring your Kat by one of these days. Maybe she hasn't introduced you yet due to time or a bit of concern. She may not mind the difference in age, but she may worry her family just might."

"Michael," Victor nodded. "And he's a fantastic detective who thinks of things no one else would even consider. He just doesn't do the emotion thing, which is okay. He's got me."

Victor finished off his fish and then he looked thoughtful. "I'll bring her by when she feels ready," he said with a smile. "I can understand worrying her family might not be thrilled. I'm a little worried about it myself. We'll get there. Sarah took months to introduce me to Mom and Dad because she was worried they would think I was just like those scary biker guys she used to date."

"She dated bikers?" Aislinn spoke up, looking sort of wide-eyed.

"One was named Warhog. Sarah just liked Harley Davidsons."

She shook her head, "it's a good thing he does then. But it's not my business, honestly. I trust you when you tell me he's alright."

She waved her hand then, "no rush Victor. Honestly. You've never spoken so highly of anyone in a long time that's all." Then she laughed to the memory. "oh yes," she glanced at Aislinn, "it was terrible love. They all smelled of alcohol and cigarettes."

She shook her head, "mind you she only dated them for the bikes though, she told me. And I think a little bit of it was rebelling. Funny enough it's them that made me realize I liked women. And for the longest time I thought it was because they'd just put a bad taste in my mouth. None of them were very progressive when it came to women. It took Rick to make me realize it was just men in general." He'd been a boyfriend she'd tried dating. They were still friends, which made her remember something. "Speaking of, him and his wife are expecting. They've been trying for ages." She nudged Aislinn then, "we should buy them something."

"She had pictures," Victor added. "And they were pretty hilarious." He smiled softly when Rose mentioned her self-discovery. He adored her and he was glad she had figured things out before they got complicated.

"That's awesome!" Aislinn said happily. "And I love baby gifts. Everything is so small!"

She smirked, "I got the real life deal. It was pretty awful." she shook her head. She'd always been happy Sarah had found someone who was calm and treated her right.

"Which is so different from everything you wear?" She gave Aislinn a teasing grin, "we can go Friday if you like? I can pick you up from work and we'll go to that sushi place you like too."

"My condolences," Victor said seriously. He was pretty sure he would have been horrified had he met any of Sarah's exes in person.

Aislinn laughed and it sounded like windchimes. "True! I would love to shop and sushi! She spoils me," Aislinn said to Victor, a grin affixed to her face.

"I hope you spoil her right back, you both deserve it," Victor said, taking a sip of wine.

"I hid." She'd still supported her sister, seeing as Sarah had always done the same for her, but she'd always wondered there.

"She does," smiling she kissed Aislinn "besides I have to win you back now Vic's done sweeping you off your feet with salmon. Besides I've been so busy lately, I want to make up for that." Then she looked to Victor, "and you deserve spoiling too mister."

Victor laughed and he moved to carry the empty plates back into the kitchen. "Yes, I'm sure Aislinn can't resist my salmon-bearing, brotherly charms."

"It is difficult, but I'm in love!" Aislinn chirped, leaning over to kiss Rose's cheek. "And you're allowed to be busy! Though I do love when you come home to me."

Victor smiled softly at how wonderful they were together. It made him happy to see Rose happy.

She pushed her fears and remnants of anger away. She didn't want to ruin this dinner. So she just took Aislinn's hand and glanced to Victor. "You never know. You've gone from sort of shut in to courting a young lady." She smiled to Aislinn, "And I'll always come home to you, you know that. I'm fairly sure Vic here doesn't stand a chance."

She rose then, "do you need a hand with anything?"

Aislinn smiled softly and she rose at the same time her girlfriend did. "I do know that."

Victor shook his head as he loaded the dishes into the dishwasher. "No worries. Did you want to stay for coffee, or do you need to be getting home?"

"I have a glorious day off so we can stay. Unless you're kicking us out." She still helped with setting things away. She couldn't not help. She glanced to Aislinn then, "unless you want to get going? Up to you love."

"I would never do such a thing," Victor promised. If he was honest, he would love them to come over more often, but he understood they had their own lives to live. He just loved and missed them.

"Coffee's great!" Aislinn said, helping as well. She had learned that humans liked it when you lent a hand, even if they said you didn't have to.

She cleaned her hands once she finished helping and smiled, "then we'll stay for coffee." She liked spending time with Victor, even if all her attention was focused on Aislinn. But that train of thought would only make her depressed so she ignored it.
