WHO: Friar Tuck, Codeine, Lachlan Blackwood, and Will Scarlet then (morning) Aderyn Ceredig
WHEN: Christmas Eve Eve (the 23rd)
WHERE: Codeine's penthouse and then the Parsonage
WHAT: A casing interrupted and then plans
WARNINGS: TBA

While there were plans in place for Christmas Eve with the Ceredigs, and then over Christmas Evie was going to be with them, there was no reason why Tuck couldn't spend the night of the 23rd finally casing Codeine's penthouse. There had been a bunch of reasons it had been pushed back, but when Ciaran had messaged Tuck to see if he was available, Tuck had jumped on the opportunity.

The plans were to go out for dinner, but Codeine had asked Tuck to meet him at his penthouse and Tuck had an inkling that what Codeine really wanted, was to fuck first and then head out. He was proven right when he was greeted at the door, lips first. The pair of them fell into bed, and then Tuck took a shower first.

The second Ciaran closed himself away to shower, Tuck abandoned his clothes, and he explored the entire place on foot, clad only in his boxers and socks. He knew he likely only had about ten minutes, so he had his phone with him, recording the little tour around the penthouse. There would be time to actually take the floorplan in and sort everything out later.

He wound his way around the grand hallways to the entry way, when he was surprised by the front door opening. Tuck was so shocked he didn't even think to hide, so he stood there in his underwear, phone out, frozen in place when in walked Lachlan Blackwood.

Lachlan blinked at Tuck and he raised a hand in greeting. "Uh...hey, Friar," he said, just as shocked to see Tuck there as Tuck was to see Lachlan.

Lachlan had been a regular helper on Francis' breadline, so Tuck had gotten to know him, at least a little, over the years. Lachlan had even invited Tuck along to a few NA meetings with him, once he had learned that Tuck was an addict too. So it was understandable, when Tuck's brow furrowed in worry. "Lachlan," he said, his voice full of concern, "do you know whose house this is?" If Lachlan had fallen off the wagon-

After a second's hesitation, and a quick glance up and down to see that Tuck was in his underwear, Lachlan groaned, "mine. It's my house, Friar. I live here."

Now it was Tuck's turn to blink in confusion. "W-what?"

Tuck watched as Lachlan's shoulders drooped and he said, in a tone that meant he already knew the answer, "he's cheating on me, isn't he?"

And clad there, in his underwear, his hair wet from the shower which was obviously post-coital, it wasn't like Tuck could refute that. He did glance at his phone when he realised it was still recording, and switch it off. God this was horrible, and no one needed a fucking record of it. "I- I didn't know he- Fuck, I'm sorry."

"He didn't tell you about me?" Lachlan asked, his voice low.

"He didn't tell me about anyone. Lachlan-" Tuck took a step towards the young man, and he was relieved when Lachlan didn't back away, "how uhm- How at risk are you of using? I'm sorry to be so blunt, but-"

Lachlan ignored the question completely, and he pointed to the phone, "what were you doing? Were you recording?"

Tuck felt his belly ice over, shivers creeping up his spine. Oh god, was he going to be arrested right now? Did Lachlan know- "Nothing!" he said, far too quickly.

"O-oh my god," Lachlan said, and then he wheezed out a laugh, "you're totally casing the joint! That's what you do right, rob from the rich?"

"L-look, please," Tuck put his hands in the air and backed off, horrified. He was going to end up in prison and Will would leave him and he wouldn't see his baby girl again until she was in university and what about Dan and Michaela, oh god- Dread stole into his heart, and Tuck was more afraid than he had been in a long time. "I'll just go," Tuck promised, his voice low, "and I won't ever come back. I won't- This is all a mistake, please."

Lachlan glanced around the place, and then he looked back at Tuck, who was staring back at him with his eyes blown wide. "None of the best stuff is even out in the open. What you want is the safe in that room behind the Rembrandt," Lachlan said, his tone dark. "And I will fucking help you get it. Because fuck this. Fuck him."

"-no, Lachlan, you're not-"

"You better go get dressed or he'll know," Lachlan interrupted him. "Act like it's all fine, and I will tell you what to take. Hell, I'll let you in the front fucking door. Don't tell him you saw me. Can you do that."

Could Tuck do that? Of course he fucking could, but he wasn't sure Lachlan was thinking clearly. "Just- Just do me a favour and go to my church. You remember where it is?" Lachlan nodded, and Tuck continued, "I'll fake feeling sick and get out of this as soon as I can, okay? I'll join you there soon. Lachlan? You didn't answer my question-"

"I'll meet you there," Lachlan said, heading for the door again. "You'd better hurry back."

Tuck chewed on his lip as he watched Lachlan leave, and he groaned. Well, fuck. His plans to rob from the rich and give to the poor had ruined one relationship and it might even fuck up someone's sobriety. Well great. But he wasn't headed to prison so that was something?

Feeling like a massive prick, Tuck rushed back to the bedroom and he was just buttoning up his shirt when Ciaran emerged from the shower. "Ah, much better," Ciaran said, grinning at Tuck. "You ready for dinner?"

"I'm starved," Tuck said, flashing a winning smile.

It took about an hour to get through some appetizers, and then fake feeling like shit so he could make his leave. He rushed the entire way home, and burst into the chapel of Sacred Heart probably a lot more dramatically than he meant to. Lachlan was there, seated on the front pew, staring up at Jesus there on the cross. Relieved to see that Lachlan was at least present, Tuck made his way up the aisle more slowly, before taking a seat beside the other man, and gazing up at Jesus as well. "Hey."

Lachlan glanced over at Tuck and offered him a tiny, half-smile. "My parents used to drag us to church every weekend," he said, his gaze going back to the pulpit. "Said we needed to be saved. Which was bullshit because the people we really needed to be saved from was them. Addicts, both of em. Cared more about the drugs than us. You'd think I would see that as a warning and stay away from the shit myself, but-" Lachlan shrugged. "Ciaran saved me. Helped me kick everything for good. Made me think I'd finally found someone in my life who gave half a shit, but he was fucking someone else." Lachlan let out a heavy sigh, and he finally looked over at Tuck properly. "I didn't use. All drugs ever do is hurt people. All they have ever done is hurt me. My entire life. And I still- God, I'm an idiot."

"No, no, you're not," Tuck was quick to say. And god was he relieved to hear Lachlan hadn't fallen off the wagon. "You said he helped you."

"Maybe. Maybe all it ever was was a trick to get me to-" Lachlan shook his head firmly. "Forget it."

Tuck reached over and slowly he placed a hand on Lachlan's back. Lachlan turned and for a second Tuck thought he was about to get hit, but instead Lachlan inserted himself into Tuck's arms, clinging sadly. "Oh, Lachlan-" Tuck said sadly, holding him tight. "I'm so sorry."

"It's not your fault," Lachlan sniffled, muffled into Tuck's shoulder. "You don't owe me anything. He on the other hand- Five years. We've been together for five years- FUCK." Lachlan pulled back and he groaned, "I want to help you," he repeated.

"Let's just- Why don't you come into the parsonage, okay? We can talk about this. Have you eaten?"

"I feel sick."

"Well let's try to get something into you anyway," Tuck said, rising from the pew. He extended a hand to Lachlan, who hesitated before taking it and walking with Tuck away from the church and to the parsonage.

Tuck knew Will wasn't expecting him for a while, so he announced himself loudly as he walked through the door. "Sweetheart, I'm home!" he said, stepping into the parsonage. It was decorated cheerfully for Christmas, both Will and Tuck wanting to go all out because their memory of the Christmas lost was still so fresh in their minds. Tuck shucked his jacket and he helped Lachlan out of his. "We have a guest!"

Tuck nodded, "of course we can," he said, gentle and kind as ever. "And you should stay here tonight. It's late and you're upset. We'll figure out something else tomorrow, alright?"

"Really?" Lachlan asked. He looked up at both of them, a mixture of relief and gratitude on his face. "That's so nice."

"Of course. It's a horror out there and there's plenty of warmth in here. We can make sure you're still on board with the plan tomorrow as well, once you've slept on it. You might only be thinking you are because you're understandably angry right now."

Well Tuck had a point, and Lachlan nodded. "I don't think I will change my mind, but you're right. Better to make sure. I have no idea what I'm going to do now. I went from being on the streets to rehab to his penthouse. I haven't had a real job my entire adult life. I volunteer because I never want anyone to live like I did, but I was in a position where I could do that."

Will nodded, sipping his tea. "We have plenty of spare blankets in the closet, it's all good," he said. He and Tuck would have a little to talk about very quietly once the bedroom door was closed behind them. "My job is to get people jobs. We have ways of helping you out. It's admirable that you want to help others, but maybe it's time to focus on you." ...And that apartment full of rich shit. It did help that there was a little tit for tat here. Jilted lovers could be so very cooperative.

"Thank you," Lachlan breathed again. "I really do appreciate this. I've never been very good at focusing on me. I guess I'll have to learn, hmm?"

"I don't know anyone like that," Tuck laughed. "You tuck into your tea, Will and I can go grab some blankets for you." Mostly because he wanted a moment to speak with Will alone.

They headed to their bedroom and Tuck closed the door behind them before breathing out heavily. "Oh my god, Will."

Will raised his hands in query, looking at Tuck. "What the hell, Tuck?" he asked, keeping his voice low. "Where did this guy come from? Can we even trust him?" He had to ask, even if he would accept Tuck's word on someone without reservation. They had to think about these things.

"Honestly, I think so," Tuck groaned, sitting down on the bed. "But Francis knows him better, so I'll ask Frannie in the morning. I was recording the layout and he just walked int. It was...honesty mortifying. I felt wretched."

Will grimaced. Of course Tuck would feel horrible about that. "So Codeine didn't know he was there?" he asked, folding his arms. "Nothing that would tip him off? Listen... would he really not care enough to follow up or is Lachlan mistaken? We need to plan for these sorts of outcomes, we don't want to be surprised by another villain showing up on anyone's doorstep."

"No, he didn't know Lachlan was there. He was taking a post-coital shower. I don't know if he would bother to follow up, to be honest. He doesn't seem like he would care much. Lachlan would know him best. We can have a contingency plan. I don't think that's a bad idea at all."

"Alright." Will nodded, and then heaved a sigh, looking towards the door, listening for movement. "He's no Prince John, is he. That man would notice a single dime missing from his coffers. Did you find out about the security system? If Lachlan just turned it off, if might be a risk." He turned back towards Tuck, all business. "And I don't want you to put yourself into any unnecessary danger either."

Tuck gave Will a fond, tired smile, and he held his arms out to the other man. "Come here, love," he said softly. "We'll work out a way to do this safely or not at all. I did find out about the security system. He doesn't even turn it on. So Mar could work on the cameras and we're fine in that regard. I can stay home if you would rather. You tell me what you want me to do and I will do it."

"I'm not making you stay home, you're not defenseless," Will said. "I just don't want you walking into a trap." He wandered towards Tuck, putting his hands on Tuck's shoulders. He knew what Tuck was capable of, really, and he wasn't worried about the man holding his own. He just didn't want their honeypot to be tainted with an anonymous tip from their new friend. "How does this man stay rich if he just leaves his shit lying around for the taking? Immortals, am I right?"

"Cameras and probably people assuming there's an alarm." Tuck shrugged ans sighed, because honestly it was ridiculous. He wrapped his arms around Will and held him loosely. "We'll be careful then. Make sure we really can trust Lachlan before we do anything."

"Maybe we don't give him accurate details. Right enough to work, but wrong enough that if it does go sideways we have a "get out" window." Will gave Tuck a smile and a kiss on the forehead. "I'm not going back to prison. We'll have our bases covered."

"Not going anywhere, don't you worry." With a reassuring smile, Will tipped Tuck a nod. "Now we better be grabbing those blankets or Lachlan's gonna be wondering what we're up to. C'mon."

"I think he has a fairly good idea what I get up to," Tuck huffed out a laugh. It warmed his chest, though, when Will reassured him. And he leaned in to press a quick kiss against the other man's lips.

They gathered blankets and were on their way to the lounge when there was a knock at the door. Tuck glanced at the security camera and caught Addy there. ...with Evie...

"Er- Just a moment," he said, tossing the blankets onto the couch. He went to open to the door where Addy was holding a crying Evie in her arms.

"She. Will. Not. Sleep," Addy huffed, shoving Evie into Tuck's arms immediately and heading into the kitchen.

"Oh, uhhhhh-" Tuck just hugged a crying Evie to him, no idea what to do about this all.

"You came all this way at night?" Will looked at Addy in confusion, then at the crying child. "What are you getting?" He followed her into the kitchen, anticipating that she might be going for the alcohol content and wanting to slow her down a bit before she got there. "Addy, is everything alright? You show up without messaging, gotta admit, its a little worrying."

"I was trying," Addy groaned, "to make her fall asleep in the car! Because driving usually works! So we drove around and looked at lights and she cried. The entire. Time. It's been like two hours. I am going insane. She's so loud. Please help." Instead of alcohol though, she just flicked the kettle on because she wanted tea, not booze.

Tuck started to bounce Evie a little, but Evie still cried. "Okay, sweetheart, let's take your temperature, alright? Let's make sure you're okay," Tuck explained, heading towards the bathroom with her.

As the crying faded a little, Addy noticed Lachlan. "Oh. Hi?"

"Heh. Hello," Lachlan said, raising a hand. "Welsh?"

"Spot on. Scottish?"

"Edinburgh," Lachlan nodded. "I'm Lachlan."

"Aderyn," she said, giving him a polite smile. "Sorry for interrupting with a grumpy child."

Well that explained the not calling ahead part. It would've been fine if Tuck was still out, but he wasn't, and they had a guest. It was always weird when his family life and his Sherwood life crossed over. Will crossed his arms and leaned in the doorway with a small frown. "English," he said with a wave, just to make sure he remained a part of the conversation. He wasn't sure how he was going to introduce them. He wanted to keep Addy safe from Codeine if things went worst case scenario, but if he pissed her off by lying too hard so might get mad at him. On the other hand, she might not give a shit because she was too tired. "Lachlan's a work contact, just landed in a bit of a crisis right now and needed a place to crash. And Aderyn is a friend of ours. Also in a bit of strife, apparently."

Will tried to make his eyes wide and meaningful so Addy wouldn't correct him, not when they weren't sure if Lachlan could be 100% trusted.

Addy had opened her mouth to do just that, but she caught Will's look, and adjusted what she said, "that's me. Strife all over," Addy groaned. "I am sleeping in the guest room, don't even make me try to drive home right now." Technically the 'guest room' was the nursery, but Addy figured calling it that would ruin the whole 'a friend of ours' thing.

Addy finished making the tea, and she carried it into the lounge, dropping into a sofa with a sigh. "Oh thank godddddddd. Sweet silence."

"When my foster sister used to cry like that, she only ever stopped if I sang a song my mother taught me. It's in Gaelige, but it was the only thing that could get her to calm down." Lachlan looked a little sad as he told the story, but Addy was too tired to pick up on it.

"Well if she's still screaming, you can try that," Addy flapped her hand at Lachlan and sipped her tea. "She's usually such a good girl, I think she's just- I don't know. Christmas anxiety or something," she shrugged. "Willlllll, come sit with meeee."

"It's a full house tonight then," Will said, walking over. Whatever Tuck had done, it seemed to be working. Bless him and his magic touch with kids. "Yeah, there's a lot happening at the moment. It's hardly surprising she'd be wound up." He sat down on the sofa next to Aderyn, making himself look more relaxed as he stretched out.

Addy leaned her head against Will's shoulders and sighed. "Oh sorry, I didn't know you were staying the night," she said to Lachlan. "I didn't mean to intrude-"

"No, no, you're- You're not intruding," he said, lifting his hands up. "Just a long story. Sounds like she's settling down. What's her name again?"

"Evie. She's the best baby, she's just you know- A baby. And Tuck and Will are good at calming her down. I think maybe she knows I'm going away for a few days soon?"

Tuck emerged back from the bathroom, Evie quiet now, in his arms. "No more crying," he said, kissing her head. "And temperature is all normal." Evie's face was still all puffy from crying, but when she saw Will she lit up and yelled "DADA" and Addy glanced between Lachlan and Will like 'uh oh'.

Will chuckled. "She's going through this phase where she calls everyone dada," he said easily, holding his hands out to take Evie before she leaned right out of Tuck's arms. He met Tuck's eyes as he got closer, and quirked an eyebrow in Lachlan's direction. Hopefully Tuck would be able to read him pretty easily and play along, and he'd played it off well enough. Lachlan might be too wrapped up in himself to notice Addy's very obvious expression.

Lachlan didn't believe Will for a second, but he nodded along anyway. Clearly they wanted to keep this a secret and Lachlan understood that. He was a random stranger in their house. Let them have their secrets. "Sometimes they do that," he said, smiling a little now. "She's adorable. How old?"

"Seventeen months," Addy said, rubbing Evie's back while she settled in Will's arms.

"That's a good age."

"Do you have kids?" Addy asked tiredly.

"Me? Oh...no, no. I had a few parrots who now live with my friend Francis. Just a lot of- I spent a long of time in the foster system, so I was surrounded by kids of all ages. Did a lot of caretaking. Someone had to do it, right?"

"Oh man, that sucks," Addy breathed. "I'm glad Evie is surrounded by people who adore her and would protect her." She slipped that last little bit in just because Will and Tuck were being so weird.

"I always wanted a parrot," Will mused, "back when pirates were the thing. Never did though. They can be a bit of a giveaway." He tickled Evie's belly and smiled at her giggles. "Why won't you sleep for Mummy, hey? Want to stay up and play with the grown-ups? Want to continue with the fist fighting lessons?" He gently booped her nose with his fist.

Addy snorted gently as Will mused about parrots. "You'd look dashing with a parrot," she told him, as Evie giggled and squirmed in his arms.

"You can always visit mine," Lachlan smiled again. "They're good boys. Rescue parrots." He watched Will with Evie. Oh yeah, that was totally his daughter. How did this whole thing work?

"Addy's brother was recently given a monkey," Tuck said, chuckling.

"Oh my god, it's so cute. It's name is Potato Pie! POTATO PIE. And he loves me but hates my brother hahhaha!"

"They have disturbing fingers," Tuck said with a shudder. He hated monkeys.

"A monkey! A monkey!" Will said to Evie in a sing-song voice, making her arms dance in time. "Uncle got a monkey! It's not cuter than you, is it?" He looked at Tuck, amused by Tuck's dislike of monkey fingers. "Can we teach it to pick locks and open latches?"

"No one is cuter than Evie," Tuck said, settling that right away. "What do you think, Evie? Shall we recruit Tater to the Merry Men?"

Evie took that opportunity to look at Tuck very seriously and say, "poo".

"Well, we'd better take that under advisement then, shouldn't we?" Tuck chuckled back at her. "You're right, if we took the monkey to a job and they pooed what a clue that would leave behind, hmm? So clever, Evie, thinking of that for us!"

"Yes!" Evie said, clapping.

"She's so cute," Lachlan chuckled a little. The presence of all of them seemed to be lifting his spirits.
