SMASHING SATURDAY: MONTROSE CONQUERS CATAPULTS
By: Margaret Urquhart
Montrose and Caerphilly closed out their first half of the season with a long and devastating match at Rannoch Moor on Saturday. Montrose took the match and the snitch for a savage 770 to 110 victory in seven hours and ten minutes. The game was marked by beater duelling, an extraordinary list of injuries, and the most fouls in a match so far this season, with three for Montrose and eight for Caerphilly.
Montrose's chaser play was extremely aggressive with all three players earning more than a century and a half, and Alasdair Maddock dominating with almost a full three by the end of the match. Meanwhile Micah Savage of the Magpies was dominating as Keeper, with a 91% defending percentage compared to merely 73% for Wendy Sloo.
Meanwhile, Catapults Keeper Wendy Sloo was under assault by Montrose Beaters Yaxley and Draganov (replacing George Peppard, who was placed on injured reserve for the season). In a savage exchange in the fifth hour, Sloo fouled Yaxley, Yaxley was warned for complaining about the foul, followed by an exchange with Catapults Beater Winne that resulted in a leg and head strike for Yaxley that removed her from the match. Draganov took his revenge with a vicious bludger that sent Winne spinning into her own Chaser, Pribble, and when Winne leapt onto Draganov's broom to force him to land, Winne was ejected.
The Snitch was barely seen until the eighth hour of play and Lennox Campbell took it as it tried to hide behind Roger Davies. Prunella Threepwood, who had been something of a showoff and earned three of the eight fouls on Caerphilly's side, including one for Grandstanding.
Montrose simply dominated play throughout the length of the match, proving yet again that they're one of the best teams in the league regardless of their early standings. Look for more Quidditch news and the league tables in the Daily Prophet.
