Who: Sebastian Cavellero & Florinda McGonagall What: Date night flight When: Evening of November 14 (backdated!) Where: Over the ocean near Montrose Warnings: Smoocking
After their dinner together, which went about as well as one might expect following a match between their two teams, Cav was glad to take Florrie up on her suggestion of a flight together. It was a cool evening, bordering on quite chilly, and he was glad he'd thought to wear his cloak. "Are you warm enough?" he asked her as he mounted his broom and kicked up off the ground.
It was good that it wasn't raining, even though the threat hung in the air as it usually did in Scotland. They'd have to be careful not to fly too high so that they didn't soak themselves through with the cloud cover.
Florrie's jacket was warmth-charmed and enchanted with an Impervius to boot, and she'd deliberately chosen a fairly casual restaurant so they wouldn't look out of place in flight gear. "I'm fine for now, though I think we'll need to fly carefully." The weather was always a concern, but Florrie had spent enough time on the preserve with Lorna and the rest of her cousins to ignore a bit of chill and drizzle. "Don't want to land in the drink if it gets too rough or anything. Not that I worry about that for either of us." She flashed Cav a grin.
Cav smiled right back as they lifted off and flew casually side by side. "Yes, I'm sure the both of us can manage a flight, even if things get a tit bumpy." He shook his hair off his forehead and hunkered down in his own cloak, glad he had had the foresight to bring his gloves as well. "So, tell me, Florrie, if you were going to pick somewhere to be right now that wasn't dreary and drizzly, where would you go?"
"Probably Brazil, because I've never been and Gabi--that's my sister-in-law--and her brother Rafa always say lovely things about the weather. They hate the dreich, you know. I swear once the winter starts, she doesn't want to come out from under blankets. You'd think she was living in a cottage at the North Pole or something." Florrie's smile was audible in her tone of voice even if Cav couldn't see her clearly in the rain. "How about you? Do you have a plan for a portkey somewhere warm and sunny as soon as we hit 15 December?"
Cav had never been to Brazil. Or anywhere in South America. Namely because the idea of going there and being anywhere near Guatemala, where his father was from, was a complete turn off. "I've heard good things about Brazil," he told her. "My ma' liked it when she visited, but that was ages ago."
He shook his head. "Don't really plan on going anywhere. I like the seclusion of Scotland in the winter." He grinned over at her.
"I like it in January, so we're even there." Christmas was still a hard season for the McGonagalls, so Florrie left it at that. Her father's death was something she didn't care to discuss on a date. "Merc and Gabi will be going to visit her parents over the New Year, during the long break. I suppose I think of most people as having plans then, even if mine are only to stay home and read a book. This year, though, I'll be moving my things into a new place before Christmas and resting in the New Year."
He nodded along with her. "You found a place?" Cav asked. He had never been so thankful about having a home and a place of his own that wasn't going anywhere as he had been watching everyone else scramble to have a Scottish residential address. "That's good," he told her. "At least you'll have the time to take care of that. Will you need any help with that?" He figured she would have help from her family, but it wasn't an empty ask. If she needed an extra pair of hands, Cav would be there.
"I might, but I'm not finishing things off until after we play Caerphilly. I've got a tenant coming in at the New Year, so I've got a while to sort out what I need and what's going into storage, and what's going to charity or the rubbish tip. I've been in the house for more than a decade, so there's a lot to go through. But thank you for offering. If I need a hand, I'll be sure to take you up on it." It occurred to her that she hadn't said what she was doing, so Florrie added, "I'll be at the Cattery, Catriona McCormack's rental for quidditch girls, in Paisley. I reckon sharing space there for the rest of the season, and that should give me the time to find something longer term."
That surprised him, and it probably showed on his face. Not that he didn't think the Cattery was a nice place. And not that he didn't have a tremendous amount of respect for Catriona McCormack, but he certainly wouldn't want to live there. "Yeah, that's probably a good transition space to be in," he said. "I never know who's staying there and who's left, honestly." But then again, he didn't normally pay all that much attention.
"I forget who's staying in the other side; the Parkin girls from Wigtown and someone else--" Florrie's face screwed up in thought "--anyroad, Joy and Meaghan will be on the same side as I am. I think Meaghan was a little surprised her mum would have me but Meaghan and I have been friends for a few years, and I suppose that carries some weight." She glanced at Cav across the distance separating their brooms. "I wouldn't have wanted to do it for years on end but for a season, or maybe through Christmas of next year, it should work out, and I'll be putting away toward a house as well, which will be nice."
"That might be fun," Cav said. He turned in towards her, stopping a little in the air or, at least, not pushing forward. "Temporarily." He felt like that might be something he could have done years ago but he liked his own space now and wouldn't give that up for anything. "If you need to get out of there for a while, you can come by anytime."
Florrie slowed as well, keeping pace with Cav; she wasn't a pro-level flier, but she'd been round them all her life, and knew how to hover a broom if needed from her days in ambulance work in the First War. "I might take you up on that sometime. I have offers from Merc and Shona, but it's not the same for family with a houseful of ickles. You know what I mean?"
Cav didn't really know what she meant. Neither of his siblings had kids, so he hadn't really spent a lot of time around them. But he could imagine. "It's probably not really a place you can go to get any peace and quiet, is it?" he asked, his voice low. He watched her for a moment. He assumed she was a great aunt, good with the kids. He had no idea how he'd be in that position, and he was mostly fine with that.
Florrie nodded, the gesture a little exaggerated so Cav could see it. "They're all very sweet but they want your attention constantly. It's lovely when you have the energy for it, but sometimes you just want to talk to another adult, you know?" The truth was she didn't know how Gabi and Shona and Lorna all managed.
"I do know that," he said, lifting his shoulder a little. He moved around her, coming up along her other side. "So it's good to that you're not staying with them for a long period of time too, hmn?"
"Yeah, that's a big part of why I didn't want to stay with them." Florrie agreed as Cav slid into a tighter formation with her.
He nodded once, twice, then steadied his broom in next to her. "I'm having a really great time with you," he said, dipping his head down to brush his mouth against hers. The air was cool, damp this high up, but her lips were warm, and Cav slid his hand over her waist.
Because she was an experienced flyer, Florrie's broom didn't so much as falter when Cav pulled the two of them together. She leaned in and kissed him back, just because she wanted to. "I am too," she said a little breathlessly, either because of the kiss or the flight or the effort of the two.
When he pulled back, he was grinning and slightly wind-flushed. "Do you think you might have time to join me for a nightcap?" he asked. If she said no, that'd be fine, but he'd probably kiss her again, a few more times, before they parted ways for the evening. And if she said yes, well, he'd probably still kiss her again, a few times more, only on solid ground where it would be easier to pull her in against him.
Florrie was grinning too, and this close, Cav could see the sparkle of pleasure in her eyes. "I think I'd like that very much," she said, "after we land. But we can fly a bit longer, too."
"You never have to ask me twice to take a longer flight," he said, smiling right back at her.
