I know you heard Lex's howler. Turns out all the Yaxley siblings got one. Old auntie Yaxley doesn't think much of me. Wouldn't care about being disowned from the old bint's house when we would never go there anyway except she called my kids mongrels and they heard.

If I need an alibi when I burn down her house, I'm saying I was with you the whole time.

And I'm complaining to someone who went through worse than hearing a mean word never mind

Myself, along with the team, was witness to a rather horrible Yaxley Howler. I can't imagine that Lex was the only lucky recipient.

How are you and the family doing?

Mel and Ana got one too.

Doesn't think much of me which isn't a surprise. I could ignore the opinion of an old bat I hate anyway but the kids were there when howler went off. She called my children mongrels. Euan wanted to know what it meant. Ana's devastated and furious. I'm furious and furious.

Well mutts or mongrels do make the best dogs. Not that this is the point or even a time to joke right now. Although you can try this explanation with the kids.

I knew these pureblood families were could be a whole other beast to fight, but this is something else. I am sorry you and your family had to experience that.

I'm trying to teach them it's your choices that determine good and bad. How you treat others.

Ana and her siblings don't think this way but part of me is angry about mongrel meaning not white.

You have every right to be angry, on any and every level you feel appropriate.

I try but it's hard not to feel on the outside.

I think I might be familiar with the reality of not being allowed to be angry publicly. It does help to have friends who are willing to drink with you, and encourage you to break and burn things, well out of the public eye.

I know a place or two if that's what you need.

I think they sometimes forget what happens with their family affects me too.

[..]

Yeah probably.

I can manage though. If it bothers you. I didn't want to talk to you about this if it was going to bring back too much from before.

I think that sometimes people have a very narrow perspective on the world and don't realize all the players involved.

Jamie, I am here for you, whatever you need. I have my baggage, sure, but I have worked through it. You're not going to hurt me because you're hurting, if anything I am going to more upset if we can't get through it together.

Mel and Lex haven't spoken to me about it

Really it's fine. We're cut off from a lady I've never spoken to. No great loss to me. I'm trying to make sure my kids understand they're safe and loved. Euan's worried. He thinks somebody's going to come over, doesn't understand why someone's so angry at his mum, why she'd use a bad word about me, and why someone doesn't like him.

Practically, we're not sure if Ana's cut off from her money. I probably should have had a fight about that years ago...

I am not sure fine is the right word, but if that's your truth, then that's your truth. It sounds like priority right now if making sure Euan and Callum feel safe.

How much of a concern is the money issue?

I don't know. I'm not happy about any of this but no one's done anything to hurt us. In the scheme of things it's not much.

More of a complication for the moment. We're not going to lose our house or anything. Ana's money was from her father but it's all Yaxley. Honestly, I still don't understand how all this inheritance bit works. Yaxley gold was a crutch. It made things easier but it might be time we were rid of it.

Except words hurt precisely because words matter. Half of the momentum I have right now is because Flint used a word he shouldn’t have.

All right. So we will have to work the hustle a little harder with A&K. But you, Jamie, might have to be put on a budget.

I know. I just don't want to seem like I'm sorry to be thrown out of this old bint's family. I'm not. And I'm not sorry to keep my kids out of her influence.

Once the new line is for sale A&K will be more than enough for anyone. In the meantime, the cost of the research and development and the price of materials is substantial. I have expensive taste in wood. Anyway, if I was any good at being on a budget, we wouldn't be about to be the first company to launch position-specific brooms. On the other hand, maybe the reason no one's ever done it is because it's so bleeding expensive.

Messed up and horrible as they can be, family is always going to be family. That's why I think most adults have two families -- the one they were born into and the one they chose.

The start up capital is what is going to get us, but I know we will have the market for it. There is also the Euro Cup this summer, so if we are ready to release to the public it might be a good time to test those markets too.

We'll see how long Hamish takes to test. Usually we have to pry the brooms back off him but there are four of them. At least we can demo and start taking orders by the summer. Might be nice to bring Ana and the kids down to the Euro Cup so I don't have to be gone that long without them.

Merlin, I don't know how we'd keep Cal entertained that long. He'd likely run out onto the course himself.

You forget about all the festivities that start by noon at the finish. I have only heard great stories about them myself.
