As the only BIQL commissioner for Scotland, I look forward to the existence of the Scottish Office and wish Desmond Parkin and his team well as he builds the institutions of government for the Coven of the North.

[Macmillan Clan]

I've been speaking to Jason King about Uplift and I'm putting together a proposal for the Macmillan Foundation to fund a Mental Health Practice at the Montrose Free Clinic. The idea is that it provides services to war trauma sufferers, and ideally be open to whatever that may mean, but with the goal of helping people who are hurting in ways we can't see.

Uplift would stay involved, advising on muggle and muggleborn health issues. Jason is looking for a recommendation to the foundation for a director.

This is directly in line with long-stated Macmillan Foundation goals and is complementary to the Montrose Free Clinic.

As such, we've invited the board of Uplift to attend the Wigtown match with us in the box, and that this may include their friend Monte Cameron, formerly of Falmouth.

At some point, perhaps when we have a director, we'll host a charity reception to kick things off. That will probably be post-finals, but some organizating will have to happen sooner.

[Ana Abercrombie]

Hey Ana,

How are you feeling about charity organizing these days?

[Montrose Management]

In a show of unity with our players and friends, Montrose is inviting the board of Uplift to attend the Wigtown match as guests of the Macmillans. We are honoring their mission and are planning how we can work together on areas of mutual interest. Monte Cameron and Justin Finch-Fletchley should be invited as well, but we don't want them to be uncomfortable, so no publicizing that. We'll just let other people see who we do and don't consider our friends.

Alex, I know you can put something together based on that. The Uplift board is Nobby Leach, Hermione Granger, Mary Cattermole, Jeremy Goodwin, and also Emerson Harper and Caroline Knightly. Pink Red Carpet treatment, please. The invites should come from Una, Bertie, and Charlie. Yes, they are aware of it. :)

For longer term use, the current working cooperative plan is to expand on the Montrose Free Clinic by adding a Mental Health practice that specializes in war trauma, because it's both clearly in line with Macmillan Foundation goals and it's also sadly needed. There are lots of people who came back from the war, but brought part of the war with them in their heads, and if we can get them help, we'll be doing some real good.

Anyone who needs to know what the extent and limit of wardrobe creativity allowed by BIQL and DOMGAS rules should ask here. I happen to know. And for anyone who wants to know, alterations may not 1) use other team's colors in an attempt to fool the opposing team. 2) cover or obscure the player's team colors on more than 50% of the uniform. 3) be made without prior approval of the team's manager. So, unless you fly out in a Harpies robe, and it's at least half black and white, nobody can get fashed.

[Monte Cameron]
On behalf of the Macmillan family and the Montrose Magpies, you are invited to be our special guest in the Montrose Box for Sunday's match against Wigtown. I know you're in great demand these days, so I wanted to give you a heads up before the owl arrives. Jason King will likely talk to you about it, but we had to go ahead with the invite because of the time.

[Ainsley]
I think I need some pink clothes.

[Hamish MacFarlan, Saxon Lethbridge]
We absolutely must come out against bullying before the end of the block. If you don't want a continuing pink revolution, we have to come out as even handed. I've got players coming to me complaining about 'hostile work environment' and 'harrasing behavior within other teams'.

Even if we do nothing, we have to disapprove of the term 'mudblood' about one of our players. If something was done to that idiot Flint, say so publicly.

So, you'll be there to introduce me to the illustrious Hermione Granger? She's on the Uplift board of directors.

Ernie

I didn't know what I was cooking up, mostly. The clinic was Jason's idea, actually.

He asked the team and management for "a show of unity and support" in the upcoming match, like several other teams have done, and Shona brought it to her daily meeting with Aunt Una. Aunt Una and I talked, about what we wanted and how we thought we could support this, especially following the Flint business. And she asked me to do the right thing.

So I went to Jason and said "what would a show of unity and support from ownership look like?" I thought he'd want to get Aunt Una a pink pin or something symbolic, but it came out a lot better than I hoped.

We talked and came up with some good ideas. I'm hoping it's a good, new partnership for us to do some focused things that really help the whole community.

I have a lot of good examples for doing the right thing.

I'm glad Jason really seems to want to use this platform he's got to make systemic changes.

Also, he's sharp as hell and cuts to the chase. He'd be a good manager some day.

The King of Scotland, Ol' Parseltongue.

We'll see how he does. It'll depend on a few things, including how long Shacklebolt stays in the big chair. Des is now high enough up to be swept out by a new administration.

And if he sets up the machinery and retires or is replaced by someone to implement new policy, then everyone will nod and thank him and forget him.

Des is almost certainly more ambitious than that, but we'll see how he does when there are actual conflicts or desire for something different than the English way of doing things.

I suspect she'll do what we all plan to do, which is use the fact that we have two masters to tell each one 'no' because we have to think of the other one...

I've only been in this job for six months, so I'm not ready to think about a next job yet. I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to be learning everything I can about how Quidditch works so that I can take over for Aunt Una when she tires of running the team.

If they're hesitant, it's because they don't know you. It was probably easier for me with Jason, because I'm not a pureblood. Actually, I take that back. He probably has no idea.

Mum and I will have a discussion about it. She needs to set an example.

Doing something is better than doing nothing. And having minions to do it for you is better. Sorry you're the minion.

Someone from an owner family, someone from QUABBLE, and someone with no skin in the game but a reputation for fairness. I'd give you Percy Weasley for the last one, since he's in MGS and is painfully ethical. The sort of bloke who would feel bad if he brought a quill home from the office by accident.

Re: Fraser/Mel

Good spread. I want this to be so clearly fair that nobody will bother grumbling about it.

Percy would be brilliant. And he's in DOMGAS, so we can't be accused of acting without Ministry support.

Dunny can take it himself or assign it to his minions.

And for the last one, I'm thinking David Urquhart. He's a current player as well as an owner family, and that idiot Flint can't say he was given unfair treatment since David is as pureblooded as you can be. If he turns me down, It'll be one of the Parkins, I guess.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Fraser/Mel
[info]yaxels

Urquhart technically isn't a pureblood so he can't be accused of pureblood bias, but he's owner family and his father's pretty conservative. Plus he puts an actual player perspective in, as you say.

If you go with the Parkin players, Flint won't like it, but he can suck it up. He better hope Urquhart takes it because he'll get a better deal. Not that I think he's going to get a good one if the stories are true. If anyone heard him call Cameron what they say he did, and it's not just the two of them arguing about it, Flint is for it, and not just benched for a match.

All jokes aside [...] I haven't been sleeping lately.

Not really since I came out of Mungo's.

I didn't think much about it. Used to happen to me when I was younger, and it eventually went away.

But it wasn't. It didn't. Maggie confronted me about it after she stayed with me a few nights after an accident with her flat. We went back to Mungo's to start getting me sorted. Turns out it was curse related.

I guess [...] I started journaling with Mel at all hours, so I guess he picked up on it. At some point, he told Meaghan, asked her to keep an eye on me or something. Today she told the entire team about it in a team ward. It got ugly.

I should have told you sooner, but I didn't want you to worry. I'm not [...] comfortable with being a bother to anyone. It's been a very long time since I've been in a position like this, and I'm afraid I didn't handle it very well. I'll understand if you're angry and if you want to brea.

Is it cleared up? What does Mungo's say about it now? Is there anything I can do to help?

And yeah, you should've told me sooner. Because that's part of the girlfriend/boyfriend thing.

I've been staring at your reply on and off for an hour, and every time I picked up my quill to answer, it all came out sounding like excuses, none of which were particularly rational or remotely fair to you.

I care for you a lot, but I'm handling exactly none of this situation well. Mungo's has me on a couple of different lesser known valerian root-free potions to help me sleep, and it finally started working a couple of nights ago. I'm checking in with Maggie before, during and after practice every day. If Mungo's knows any more about the curse, they're not sharing with me.

You've been so busy with the end of the season, and all of this Falcons and Banchory business- and now apparently Uplift, if your initial question about pink clothes is any indication?- I just didn't want to add to it. (This was reason/excuse #4, by the way. I started writing a list, and then vanished it, because you deserve so much more than excuses.)

I'm not really sure what else I can say other than:

I'm sorry.

I've heard so many rumours about what happened with Flint and Cameron that an investigation is clearly required to get to the bottom of it. There should be no fighting and there should be no use of slurs. No politics in matches means not bringing your purist prejudices into it either.

Macmillan, since you've asked, you're in charge. Find three appropriate investigators and get to work. I want witness testimony and results ASAP. Ideally by the end of the month and well before the quarterly. The report should be ready and whatever penalties are required dealt out by then, and there should be a proposal in the works to correct any defects in our rules and regulations.

Lethbridge, you tell the Falcons management and ownership. They will cooperate with Macmillan's investigators and be honest, or it won't just be Flint and Cameron facing sanctions.

That will take more than a block, but we can wrap it up by then. I think a statement that we are investigating is in order, and I favor your "There should be no fighting and there should be no use of slurs." as a worthwhile reiteration of our values.

I have extended a personal invitation to Cameron to join me in the Montrose box on Sunday, and I won't rescind that offer. If you need me to recuse myself from this investigation, I will do so.

If either of you would like to meet Monte Cameron, you are welcome to join us.

Until I have the report, the area of rules I am going to look into is having a formal process for intra-team issues to be escalated to us and investigated via an established process.

We're looking to make a new practice at the Montrose Free Clinic. It's got joint support from the Macmillan Foundation and Jason King's Uplift organization. And if I have my way, Des Parkin's Office, as well.

So, Uplift has little-to-no experience organizing charity events, so if the family foundation is going to help them, we'll have to do the heavy lifting on launching the charity.

The goal is to provide mental health care to wizards of all backgrounds who are suffering from mental trauma brought on by the war. And in general, to improve mental health and the perception of mental health care in the wizarding community. but specifically, the war. As Jason said to me, "people are hurting, we should help them".

What can I say, I'm an easy sell for that line of argument.

If you're not ready to jump into something like that, I can look elsewhere, but I thought of you first, which I hope you consider a complement.

It is not an unworthy cause and as I said above, overdue. You do not need to sell me on that. I have spoken to Jason separately, most as Jamie's wife than a member of the Macmillan Clan, and I have my own interests relating to Uplift's mission.

However, I do take you thinking of me as a complement. Do you have a timeline on launching the charity? An idea of what type of events you would like to promote?

Well, that is certainly better than a month to put on a charity Quidditch match.

The first Neep is on the 31st. Easter is not that much later. Spring is all about rebirth and new starts. We could do a Spring Faire, which could tie in with May Day, but that might be too close to the Final Battle Anniversary.

However, when we did the fair in October, it went very well. Replicating that experience will not be difficult.
