Ellie is supposed to be grown now ([info]lady_dragon) wrote in [info]neeps,

Entry tags:! ic/ooc, # portree, alasdair buchanan, elspeth macfusty, meaghan mccormack, sara scrimgeour, x-joy willison

IC/OOC: Unconventional training session
Who: Pride players (Ellie assumes Tor is invited, and last minute invites Cav)
Where: MacFusty Dragon Reserve
What: Agility drills with dragons. Lots of dodging unexpected things. Bonfire and social at the end of the night.
When: Sunday, 1 October noon and onward

Look it's harmless potter couldn't cut it

The team had been instructed to arrive at the Reserve between noon and 12:30. Ellie and her sister Davina will be there to great them and direct them to where they are meeting. Their meeting location is actually the starting line for Winter Solstice Broom Race (that goes from the Reserve to Montrose -- more thoughts on this later), so there is place to set up. Also it is a reasonable area for people to be flying brooms through with managed risk.

As people are arriving, other members of the MacFusty clan are about keen to give people tours. Ellie will very happily direct people to where the young dragons nest.

At 12:30 there will be a brief team meeting going over the goals for the day before everyone takes to their brooms. Of note, neither of the seekers are present. If prompted Ellie will say they have been excused ahead of an intensive seeker training tomorrow.

At 1pm, people will take to their brooms for an afternoon of weird training drills. More about these drills below. Also please feel free to add your own.

Mock matches. She will convince other members of her family to join in. (Special appearance by Lorna? Sure.) She will be encouraging people to try different positions than what they actually play. This would mark a change in the tone of the afternoon toward having more fun. These will go on as long as everyone is willing/able.

For at least one match Scrimmy does her chaser position so she can get a chance to try it against some new players, but for the next she'll pick up a beater bat and march with determination back to the field. Get ready for the tiniest beater coming at you!

For the lols, I would really like to see Alasdair and Scrimmy paired up as beaters at some point. It would definitely make me chuckle XD

Alasdair definitely enjoys trying out the different positions and it shows.

The Chasers' Revenge. Let's see how YOU like being pelted by bludgers when you're trying to make shots!

Yasssss! Alasdair 100% approves and probably starts up some banter while they're playing.

Just taunting chasers from atop their brooms. Even worse they both grew up with beaters as parents so they're actually pretty good (Scrimmy was read teh Beater's Bible at bedtime). Which only makes it worse for the inexperienced chasers.

Luag is so proud of both of them.

And is the idiot that would give pointers even if it'd make his life harder. XD

Scrimmy would be thrilled with advice! And listen and take it seriously...and then get a good hit at him and shout 'HOW WAS THAT?! BETTER? BUT NEXT TIME I'M KNOCKING YOU OFF, THIS WAS A FREE ONE!"

As already established, Joy is a terrible Beater. She will give it a go when that's the position available to her, but it will basically be comedy. (Bonus comedy if her inept flailings actually result in a wild shot that knocks someone off their broom.)

(Q: is Seeker included in the options, given the Seekers aren't here and the Seeker isn't really involved in the general run of play? I feel like Joy might actually be a decent Seeker in terms of moves, but she lacks the concentration discipline and she'd be too distracted by the game to spot the Snitch.)

Otherwise, she's just having fun getting whackier with her Chaser moves.

Good clarification. I meant to put this above. No seeker position in their scrimmages. And maybe a few rounds with no keepers, but extra beaters. Just to be tricky.

omg I totally forgot about Keeper, don't tell Meaghan.

I suspect Joy would be not too shabby at Keeping - good hands and reflexes and all - right up until she gets distracted at the wrong moment and tries to catch a Bludger thinking it's a Quaffle...

Yes. Catching bludgers in air. Excellent.

(And hopefully not too injury related...)

Let's say some bruises, primarily hand/arm related, and some muscle strain from nearly falling off her broom? Plus the endless derision from Meaghan. ;)

During Joy's beater times, Scrimmy is shouting advice from whatever position she's in. Lots of "No hold the bat higher this isn't cricket!" "FOLLOW THROUGH FOLLOW THROUGH!" "AIM FOR THE MIDDLE, IF YE MISS YOU STILL MIGHT NAB THEIR HEAD!!"

There will be lots of shouting back, mostly on the theme of "I'M TRYING, I'M TRYING" and also a lot of swearing. Joy is mostly good-humoured about how bad she is, and she does try, but she will definitely be getting more than a little frustrated after a while and it starts to show.

If there's no progress at one point Scrimmy will just try to helpfully shout "JUST SWING WILDLY, THE UNPREDICTABILITY WILL SCARE THEM MORE THAN YOU TRYING AND IT'LL WORK BETTER!"

There is no progress. (THIS IS A STUPID WAY TO INTERACT WITH BALLS I HAVE HANDS FOR A REASON UGH!)

At least Scrim's new advice makes Joy laugh again.

YAAS LORNA

Meaghan is surprisingly willing to play the other positions given her insistence that keepers are best. She's got a good aggression for beater though not the best aim (aaaand probably isn't paying enough attention and nearly hits someone with the bat, aaaand maybe at one point the bat flies out of her hands because she wasn't holding it tight enough).

She has fun as chaser, because that's what she was originally trained by her mum to play, but it's been a while so there's some more stretching of rusty muscles, and a lot of thinking back to her childhood which makes her a little more distracted.

(She's glad they're not doing seekers because she would HATE to try seeker)

There is a lot of arm gesturing and swearing from Scrimmy when Meaghan nearly whacks her with the bat (volunteering her as victim) and even more when later she LOSES THE BAT. You can't hear her during the latter but the gesturing gives a very clear message: WTF MAN!!!!!

David needs a shit ton of more practice and weight conditioning, but he'd make a fair beater! He has really fantastic hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.

Ellie definitely is joining on this drill. All in. She will easily rotate through all of the positions, although it's clear keeper is not her strong suit. (Why even bother to challenge Meaghan?) It's also clear to anyone who played with professionally that she is holding back a little, but also very much not at the level she once was -- but can certainly hold her own.

She will a couple of times play "chicken" with people trying to slam into them, but pulling away at the last second. Ellie was a rather aggressive players when she played and is proud of the long list of fouls attached to her name. Sadly she didn't get the full 700. Some dreams just can't be actualized.
