IC/OOC: Portree Meets the New Consulting Coach
Who: Bart Roberts and a cast of dozen(s)
What: First Day Coaching
When: All day Jan 9th
Where: Portree Practice Pitch and offices.
Warnings:

Graham had an agenda prepared for Bart. It was going to be a busy day. The morning was going to be spent with management and the afternoon with the team. Lorna had the morning drills covered, possibly following Ellie's notes. She'd have no trouble keeping the players busy. At least it wasn't one of the days the charity practice, where half the team, including Lorna, were off with McGonagall.

10:00 Management meeting

11:00 PR (Gwen/Bart)(discuss any interviews he’ll do).

12:30 Team Leadership meeting (captain/field coaches).

13:00 Team Meeting.

13:30-16:00: Afternoon practice and one-on-ones.

18:00 Dinner with Bas and Graham

She does not want to either talk to him or show him her stuff but when called upon will go. Without argument. And look at him until he speaks, because she's not going to be the first one here.

Bart is going to wait until close to the end to see if Meaghan will come to him.

"All right, what's the splinter on your broom-saddle, McCormack?"

"Sir." She may not have wanted to talk to him but she knew this was coming. She never could get away with as much under Roberts. "Coach is gone."

"That's right. And we have to keep this team flying until she gets back and is ready to assume full duties."

"And it will still be that way if she comes back tomorrow or doesn't come back until the middle of May, and we don't know for sure if it's one or the other or somewhere in between. And you are a part of that, McCormack, so you have to show up and give your hundred and ten percent. You don't have to like it that I'm here and MacFusty is not, but you're a leader on this team even if you're not captain, and people look to you for guidance. When you're sulky or unhappy or not putting in your all, everyone sees that.

"Don't make it hard for me because that's not going to fix things with MacFusty. It's not going to make either of them, the coach or the beater, come back faster or slower; it's not going to fix MacDonald's injury; it's not going to solve any problems. It's just going to make things harder for me, and for MacFusty when she turns back up and is ready to step on this pitch again.

"No offence meant, McCormack, but I'd rather be sailing the Mediterranean this winter and spring than spending time in Scotland with the cold seeping into my old bones and Kirsten giving me dirty looks. But you lot need someone and I'm what you got. So help me, and help MacFusty. All right?"

Meaghan stood still as if she'd braced herself for an expected lecture, her gaze slipping down to his chest.

She was clearly skeptical about being called a leader that people look to, and wasn't happy about Luag or Old Cap being brought up. It was all the same shit all over again and she didn't like the reminder, it just making it sound like there was something very wrong with Portree to make it like this.

"Yes sir. I know you don't want to be here." What did he want her to do? Be happy? She couldn't be happy with all this shit. "Can I go back to my hoops and be a good example for whoever's left now sir?"

Bart resisted the impulse to sigh because it wasn't going to do him any good. Sometimes players needed something that he couldn't give. Maybe Lorna could help her. "Go show me what you've learned from MacFusty, McCormack. I know you're good at what you do, though. It's not like you need to run through every trick in your book."
