IC/OOC: Portree Meets the New Consulting Coach
Who: Bart Roberts and a cast of dozen(s)
What: First Day Coaching
When: All day Jan 9th
Where: Portree Practice Pitch and offices.
Warnings:

Graham had an agenda prepared for Bart. It was going to be a busy day. The morning was going to be spent with management and the afternoon with the team. Lorna had the morning drills covered, possibly following Ellie's notes. She'd have no trouble keeping the players busy. At least it wasn't one of the days the charity practice, where half the team, including Lorna, were off with McGonagall.

10:00 Management meeting

11:00 PR (Gwen/Bart)(discuss any interviews he’ll do).

12:30 Team Leadership meeting (captain/field coaches).

13:00 Team Meeting.

13:30-16:00: Afternoon practice and one-on-ones.

18:00 Dinner with Bas and Graham

She'll suck it up and take her turn but mostly listens rather than talks, not sure what to expect with the individual meetings. She silently hopes he's been watching or reading the Portree results while on his cruise (she secretly hopes he went to St. Barts and will imagine in her head that he did).

Actually maybe just hopes he's read the results for the last few matches, don't look at those first few Old Coach!

Bart has questions for her, how she's handling the transition to starter, what she thinks of Joy and Alasdair and David, and particularly how she thinks she's improved and what brought her to starter.

In particular he'd like to see her flying and see how she's doing. Maybe against Meaghan or Ainsley.

He's very matter of fact about this and says his assessment is trying learn how to put the new chasers together best against Ballycastle and to see where he needs to coach them and how he should advise Alasdair to lead them.

Scrimmy thinks all the chasers are pretty damn great and only has positive things to say (and seems to be more comfortable talking about this topic). Seems to trust Alasdair and respect him plenty, thinks Joy is the coolest and adores her style of play, and while she might get on with David in a weird bickering way, she's pretty adamant he's a hard worker and can do better than that one match.

As for what brought her to starter, she's not sure what he's looking for so awkwardly shrugs. "Eh well people retired or left and they were doing try outs for chasers again and I went for it even though I was on the team and uh I guess Coach liked something so she bumped me up?"

"And for starting it's been..." How to say up and down without actually making Old Coach think she sucks? "I like playing more and I'm getting a lot better, really! Coach said so before and I got my first century and everything!"

"Congratulations on that century!" Bart gives her a big clasp. "I heard about that. A sign of real progress. Having said that, what do you think the differences between being a starter and being a reserve have been for you, other than more playing time, and how do you think you're doing with them? And specifically, how can I help you with anything that you need help with, keeping your head in the game and all that?"

She's almost bashful at the compliment, this is old coach who knew her as a reserve after all, but before she could react much, there were suddenly questions to field.

They felt like a test questions and she couldn't figure out what answer he wanted. "Uh...more responsibility? Like ye gotta be able and ready to play and deliver. And there's more expectation I guess? Like if ye don't do well as a reserve it's disappointing but it's not the same as when a starter is doing badly." She scratched her head, a bit lost on how to judge how she was doing with all that. "Well me head's in the game, don't worry! Where else would it be?"

"Sometimes it's hard for people to jump to starting from reserves. Sounds like you've got it under control, though. Want to show me some of your new fancy moves?"
