Is there anything in the 700 Laws of Quidditch that would prevent a player from wearing pink that you are aware of?

I'll let you know if I think of anything.

Is there an official Portree stance on the pink uniform additions?

Why what? Why have a position? Because Hamish MacFarlane can speak for the league, but when he says that Montrose's opponents (aka 'Us') are being shortchanged by Jason King and his racing stripes and a goddamned mascot with pink bagpipes, I feel we should speak for ourselves.

It would be helpful if you knew how they feel about this in the locker room. Not necessary, but helpful.

I see.

I do, but it's important in business for the decision maker to speak last. You can't get good advice if people think you're looking for support for your position.

How do you feel about it?

Granted, but I'm asking you as my father, not my superior.

[...] I think it's unnecessary. Not distracting as a fellow player, no more than a non-natural hair color, but I suppose it depends on the statement we want to make. And choosing to wear or choosing not to wear says a lot about the team.

It's very political.

So of our options of a statement in support, a statement in opposition, or no statement, you favor the latter?

In some ways it's academic, since we no longer have any muggleborns after our amazing burn-out.

However, the Isla Cameron issue makes our silence appear to favor one side.

I want to make sure that we have a position that is consistent and compatible with our "everyone should vote" statements about the referrendum.

Ideally, yes, but I realize that's not likely the best option given, as you mentioned, namely, the Isla Cameron issue. Politically, not saying anything would make us look like we don't support Muggleborns, or otherwise harbor some ill will towards them. Which would only damage Portree's reputation to an unknowable extent.

I think we'll likely need to come out in favor of wearing pink. Even though I don't personally agree with it, but for the sake of keeping up appearances, that seems to me the best, most realistic option.

That all seems very reasonable. The other half of it is "best foot forward", which means we may feel that we have no choice, but we will want to make it seem like we are enthusiastic.

Your mother's drama school training may come in handy.

Please be on time. The players can do laps or hills or whatever you want. Or turn them over to Lorna. It will be 4PM, which means after sunset, given the time of year.

And most matches run into night.

Is this a secret quiet staff meeting?
Or is it okay to inform the players?

I couldn't ask Cav to come in for a 7AM meeting. He'd break.

Shouldn't be long. Send 'em around Skye if you think it's warranted.

Players can certainly know. We're just making sure we have a solid position and that we don't put anyone out on a limb.

Well, it's not a foul. Not in and of itself.

There's no rule against additional colour so long as the players are still wearing, for the most part, their club colours -- so robes still required for play. That is, the political statement (in this case) can't overtake the uniform. Can't have people getting confused over who is on which team. And of course any changes should have ownership approval, though I can think of few owners who would fight their players on this in the current climate. Quite the hot button topic.

Closest thing we've found to a rule against additional colours is an old bylaw banning the Welsh from wearing a leek during play. It was overturned shortly thereafter. Never deny the Welsh their heritage.

Good Godric, the stadiums must have been full of leeks. We will take that under advisement.

And please remind Hamish that if he wishes to speak for the League, it would be wise to do a quick whip-round of the owners. as you've said, no one has spoken up, yet, but we've been put in a position.

Full of leeks and six-part harmonies, apparently. Unfortunately, even the best harmonizing becomes an unholy cacophony if you're far enough away, and a Quidditch stadium full, with some using sonorus... well, it was an effective protest, though possibly not in the way intended. Such things can get away from one.

Shall I mention it in person, or by way of the Prophet? Seems to be the only way people argue these days.

Such things can get away from one. On the other hand, I recall when a stadium full of scots sang "O Flower of Scotland" for Oighrig. So dusty that day.

As an official Portree statement, it officially comes from Gwen, so make sure the return address on any Howler to the Prophet with that message has her return address. I am sure she will love being involved in all this discussion of quidditch fashions, as Hamish so eloquently put it.

Quite. Suppose intent does count for something.

I prefer to do things face to face myself. Can't see the fear when you send a Howler. In any case Gwen would rather discuss that than Quidditch itself, shocking as it may sound. But then, we can't all be idealists who believe in purity of sport, clinging to the idea that we've still the top league in the world.

Of course. Does "we" refer to the Urquhart family or to the team?

Regarding our referendum efforts, I have something for you to look over and approve: a mixed-teams friendly among all three Scottish teams for the Saturday before the vote, in support of our get-out-the-vote and benefiting voters' aid and civic education organisations. Elspeth and her cousin MG came up with the idea not long ago. The schedule will be tight, but after consultation with the Montrose and Wigtown administrations, I believe we can pull it off with minimal disruption to everyone's holidays and at the benefit of excellent publicity for the team, particularly as a reminder of the Neep tournament coming up. I have plans for sponsorship and logistics ready for your perusal at your convenience.
