URQUHARTS

Peggy - am I allowed to make fun of you, or not?

I'm going to kill Maggie.

I’ll take that as a no.

What happened that night, anyway? I haven’t gotten a straight answer out of anyone.

Maggie threw a bad idea party and we went dancing and drank until we were all over the eight. Alec was supposed to be the sober apparator but I don't think he was that sober either, which is why nobody knows what happened. Then we went back to Maddie Savage's place and I think a bunch of people played Truth or Dare but I passed on all that because I had to get up in the morning for the Abercrombie and King opening. And either Fraser Macmillan or Mel Yaxley made us breakfast. I thought it was Mel but someone else called him Fraser and he answered to it.

The reason why Maggie is in trouble is she snogged the bloke in the band and gave him my name. Which she is not yet finished with suffering for. Or groveling for.

Oh also your teammate Scrimmy got tossed out of a shawarma shop in Edinburgh for kicking a bloke in the stones. I saw that part.

Oh Maggie had no actual intentions of using me as a sober apparator, she clearly just wanted to lure me into the bad decisions night. And seemed disappointed I didn't end up on the dance floor.

But from what I gather, she lost a bet. Or at least that's what I have to assume having seen this bassist 'Peggy' was snogging. That and the look on her face once she peeled herself off him and had to pick (apparently fake) goatee hairs out of her mouth.

I'm guessing it was McCormack or your tiny chaser friend she lost her bet to because they were doubled over laughing at her.

Fake goatee. Disgusting.

Yeah, honestly you dodged a bullet on it being just your name not you.

When I first saw her snogging him I wondered how thick those cocktail goggles were and if I should step in if it went any longer. But then I saw David's teammates almost on the floor laughing and Maggie stopped sucking his goatee looking very disgusted so...bet rather than too drunk to see straight.

She broke a rule.

You don't talk about work and you don't go on about other girls' exes in front of them. I mean, if they come up for other reasons, it's all right, but basically no rubbing it in. You have to do a dare if you break one, and that's the kind of thing Meaghan and Scrimmy would dare Maggie to do.

Oh was that it? Good thing I followed the rules.

Dare her to snog him or dare her to give your name? The latter seems like a Maggie touch.

That has to have been her own idea. I didn't break any rules.

Because we make good decisions. Even at bad decision parties.

My sort of bad decisions don't include letting McCormack and Scrimmy ruin my life make me snog blokes with fake facial hair.

Sounds like quite the adventure.

Can't say I'm much sorry to have missed out.

The dancing and drinking was fun and it's not like it's that hard to keep the rules. Also it can be amusing to watch your friends when they're all the way over the eight and you're maybe half-past three.

Watching drunken antics from a safe distance is generally rather entertaining.

Apparently I wasn't entirely at a safe enough distance.

Technically, your presence wasn't required for someone to give your name in their stead, regardless.

True enough.

That's not something you do to a good friend though.

No, no arguments here. It was a lowly thing to do.

I don't think every other House besides Slytherin has a monopoly on being allowed to feel upset when your friend does something shitty to you, Peg.

It was pretty shitty.

I know she didn't think about it but it really could make it harder for me to interview players, too. I know nobody on Portree or Montrose or Wigtown would do anything, but some of the other teams have real brutes on them. Like the Falcons.

I'm afraid I can't solve all of your problems, or even accompany you to each interview should you need me. I know you wouldn't want me to, and that's not a slight on your ability to defend yourself, Merlin forbid, should it come to that, but me being male and all does tend to put a damper on another male's potentially nefarious plans.

The only things I can come up with are to make sure your interviews are in a fairly public setting, to keep attitudes in check?

Or if they try anything, you won't be slow to whip out your wand and show them up.

I don't know.

I'm sorry this is possibly going to affect your reputation in any regard.

You're a sweetheart and I appreciate both the thought and the understanding. It's not that I really expect anything, even, but it's something I have to think about, and this is just a complicating factor. Especially in a job where access to the sources is an important part of what you do. You can see how it would be complicated.

It's usually not even something where they grab you and you want to hex them, but sometimes it's more like: I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine, and their back isn't what they want scratched.

Don't put that in writing. You know I can't let it get out that I care about things.

I do see.

No. Unfortunately, it never is.

I'll never let on.

It's really the professional perception issue. It's always there. And I'm dreading what Rita will have to say about it in the next staff meeting. And there's nothing to be done, but your support does mean the world to me.

I have no doubt. It was fun to lay the groundwork while you got into the plotting revenge mindset. Thanks again for playing along a writing out that 'If' without much question. I think it worked very well, she didn't owl back.

Couldn't say, she took the shot instead of really answering.

And anyway I'm sure your team likes you better than to toss you off a cliff so easily.

I don't think they dislike me mostly. Or that they'd want to hurt me, but I certainly don't think they'd want to snog or marry me, even in jest.

To be fair, David, I think a few of them might rather themselves jump off a cliff than marry anyone just yet.

That is also true. I can't fault them for that.
