Lavender yawned and stretched as she swung her legs off to bed, rising to her feet. She was taking a potion to help her stay relaxed and help her body to heal, but for the most part she was healing on her own and she was still sore. Giving birth was not easy, she decided, walking slowly across her room to the small cradle where Katherine slept, her tiny fist curled against her cheek.

Kevin had left only a few moments ago to make arrangements at the recording studio. He was taking some time off and Lavender was grateful for that. She wasn't alone long when there was a knock at the door and a familiar face appeared in the room. "Hi," she smiled over at Hermione.

	"The healer said that babies have an instinct about people. Even Kevin, who was terrified of her, just melted when he first held her," Lavender said. "Hours," she sighed. "The charms dulled the pain, but at the end... oh, I could feel that head," she laughed. "I thought she was going to tear me in half - I don't know how women do it over and over! She may be our only!"

Katherine wriggled and waved her little fists that she'd gotten loose. She let out a wail and Lavender leaned forward to look at her. "She might be hungry... I can't tell yet..."

	Hermione jumped at the sound of the wail, and stepped quickly over to pass off the baby. As adorable as she was, Hermione was terrified of screaming babies. "Here you go, here, here." She said, passing Kate back over to Lavender's arms. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Lavender laughed softly, taking Kate in her arms, slowly unwrapping her so she could check her diaper. "Will it make you uncomfortable if I feed her?" she asked, not sure how Hermione would feel about it. "I'm still learning and... well, I'm going to have to feed her now," she said, situating herself on the pillows. "You can stay and we can talk more once she's calm..." she smiled.

	"Uh, sure. Are you sure you don't want some privacy?" Hermione asked, glancing around the room. It was a small room, but private. That was nice. She moved to close the door, giving Lavender some time and space to nurse. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Lavender adjusted Katherine and her nightgown so she could nurse her. The baby squirmed and whimpered, trying to get comfortable as she started to nurse. "No, it's all right, please stay," she smiled, relaxing as Katherine started to nurse. "She's still learning and it takes a minute... but she's good now," she sighed. "It was uncomfortable at first, but we were getting used to one another. Today is better than yesterday and tomorrow will be better too," she nodded, glancing down at the now-sleeping baby as she continued to eat.

Lavender looked up at Hermione. "So, how are you? I promise not to be one of those moms who only wants to talk about her baby.. all the time," she grinned.

	"Oh, Lav, don't be silly. I'm here to visit you and Kate. You're supposed to be talking about her." She grinned, leaning back in her chair. "I'm all right." "Kate doesn't do anything," she whispered, glancing down at the snoozing baby. "Really... it's OK. You are my friend and I want to hear about you, too," she insisted.

At her last comment, Lavender's face fell. "What.." she breathed. "What happened?" she asked. It had been somewhat obvious that things between Ron and Hermione weren't perfect but... she really thought that they loved one another.

	"When I find him, you'll be the first to know," she assured her. Lavender shifted on the bed, moving to lay Katie down on the mattress between where they two women now sat. 	"I've read that newborn infants enjoy bright, contrasting colors, because it's all they can see. And that black and white get the most of their attention, because it has the most contrast." 	Hermione blinked at Lavender. So smart? Really? Well, she knew she was pretty smart, but... it was strange to hear it when she was simply being logical. "Do you swaddle her?" Hermione asked, interested. She'd read that babies enjoyed being swaddled--it reminded them of the cramped space of the womb. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	"The nurse taught me how, yesterday," Lavender said as she moved Katie to a soft pink blanket. "I learned a lot in two days!" she giggled, folding and tucking the blanket around Katie, the baby's eyes blinking and shifting as she was swaddled up. "She looked like a buritto..."
