Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Lisa and Roger
What: doting on Brighton and NOT being awkward
Where: Roger's apartment
When: Tonight!
Rated: TBD

Lisa hesitated. She looked down at herself to make sure she looked nice. It was the advice of some people she was friends with to look fantastic at this dinner. She wasn't exactly sure why, but something about showing him what he was missing out on. It sounded pretty petty to her, but she followed through with it anyways.

Taking a deep breath, she finally knocked. Holding the warm pan of lasagna (Brighton's second favorite meal, because she wasn't going to bring mac and cheese after Leanne), she waited for Roger to open the door. She had a key, but felt it more appropriate to refrain from letting herself in.

Roger stepped back and felt a little embarrassed. "Uh, here, lemme take this." He grabbed the lasagna. "Come on in. Brighton's in his room. He's been pretty much in bed all week."

As soon as he let go, she too felt slightly embarrassed. She cleared her throat. "I've got a few things in my purse for him," she said, letting him take the lasagna from her. "Just books and MadLibs."

Roger opened the bedroom door and looked in. Brighton was awake looking at a book. His had a big bruise on his face still and it broke Roger's heart every time he saw it. The only thing that should be bruising his kid was Quidditch.

"Hey, Lisa's here with dinner."

Lisa peeked around Roger and into the room. Her stomach did a sick flip when she saw the state of him. That bruise on his face looked terribly painful and Lisa wanted nothing more than to make him right again. "Hey kiddo," she said, softly but with a little enthusiasm. "How're you feeling?"

"Hey Lisa," he said with a half smile. He waved. "I asked Daddy where you were the other night. He said you're busy cleaning your room."

Roger blushed.

Lisa turned to look at Roger before looking back at Brighton. "It was super messy. I'm glad your dad gave me some time off so I could get it nice and clean."

That was better to tell a kid than 'sorry, boned your babysitter while I was wasted.'

"Lisa brought lasagna for dinner. Are you hungry?"

Brighton nodded. "A little."

"Okay, we'll just have you eat a little piece, okay?" Roger went to the kitchen to get a knife and some plates and forks.

While Roger went to ready the meal, Lisa walked in to the room and sat down on Brighton's bed. "I missed you a lot," she said, giving him a warm smile. "But I learned how to make all kinds of yummy treats for you and I brought you some things to keep you busy while you're home in bed." She reached into her bag and pulled out a few Dr. Seuss books and the book of MadLibs. She figured Roger could help with the latter. It would be something fun for the both of them.

Roger came back with said plates and started serving lasagna off Brighton's dresser. "Hey, what did Lisa bring you?"

"Madlibs!" It was the most excitement he'd shown all week.

Lisa let out a light laugh. She'd forgotten how adorable Brighton was. "I thought maybe you and your dad could work on those."

Roger handed a plate to Brighton with a little piece of lasagna, cut a big one for himself, and then grabbed the third plate. "How much do you want, Lisa?"

"I'll have as much as you're having, I suppose." It wasn't news that Lisa liked to eat. She'd long ago decided that dieting was severely overrated and that men liked healthy girls with a nice appetite. It wasn't really working out for her but it was too late to change her habit.

Roger handed Lisa a plate and sat on the bed to eat. Brighton was very quiet while he worked on his sliver of lasagna. Roger's only sound was the sound of chewing.

"Do you like it?" She asked Brighton. She'd learned how to make it just for him. It had taken a lot of convincing for Marcus to give her the recipe, but she'd gotten it out of him eventually. It was rather good, Lisa thought, as she took a bite of her own.

"It's better than a restaurant," he said. He put his plate down on his lap and Roger took it away. "Were you at the hospital for the 'splosion?"

Lisa nodded slowly. "I was in the cafe." She wanted to tread the ground softly. She wasn't sure what was appropriate to say on the subject.

"I was in Dad's office. The ceiling fell in." He would one day brag about how he survived the ceiling caving in, but right now there was fear in his voice.

"I heard. Your Dad was very brave," she said, taking another bite. Once she chewed and swallowed, she added, "Your battle wound looks like its healing well."

He nodded. "Yeah but I'm tired."

"That's because it takes a lot of energy to heal." Roger patted the top of his head. "We'll let you sleep, okay?"

Lisa smiled and took the plate from Brighton's hands so he could settle into bed. She leaned forward and kissed his forehead before taking Roger's plate and the platter and heading into the kitchen to start the dishes. She figured it was the best way she could help out.

Roger came into the kitchen and put the lasagna in the icebox. "Thank you for bringing dinner." Roger hadn't felt like cooking since the accident.

"My pleasure. I missed Brighton a lot, so it was nice to spend some time with him. He looks like he's doing well, considering. It breaks my heart to see him like that, but it could have been so much worse, I guess." She wiped at the clean plates with a towel to dry them.

Lisa paused her drying for a second, obviously taking his comment in, before resuming again. She wasn't sure what to say, so she didn't, just in case he wanted to continue.

He brought the knife to the sink and washed it off. "Didn't realize how lonely I was until you stopped coming around," he admitted in a hushed voice.
