Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Lisa and Roger
What: doting on Brighton and NOT being awkward
Where: Roger's apartment
When: Tonight!
Rated: TBD

Lisa hesitated. She looked down at herself to make sure she looked nice. It was the advice of some people she was friends with to look fantastic at this dinner. She wasn't exactly sure why, but something about showing him what he was missing out on. It sounded pretty petty to her, but she followed through with it anyways.

Taking a deep breath, she finally knocked. Holding the warm pan of lasagna (Brighton's second favorite meal, because she wasn't going to bring mac and cheese after Leanne), she waited for Roger to open the door. She had a key, but felt it more appropriate to refrain from letting herself in.

Lisa smiled and took the plate from Brighton's hands so he could settle into bed. She leaned forward and kissed his forehead before taking Roger's plate and the platter and heading into the kitchen to start the dishes. She figured it was the best way she could help out.

Roger came into the kitchen and put the lasagna in the icebox. "Thank you for bringing dinner." Roger hadn't felt like cooking since the accident.

"My pleasure. I missed Brighton a lot, so it was nice to spend some time with him. He looks like he's doing well, considering. It breaks my heart to see him like that, but it could have been so much worse, I guess." She wiped at the clean plates with a towel to dry them.

"I missed you, too," Roger said in a very late response to her journal comment earlier.

Lisa paused her drying for a second, obviously taking his comment in, before resuming again. She wasn't sure what to say, so she didn't, just in case he wanted to continue.

He brought the knife to the sink and washed it off. "Didn't realize how lonely I was until you stopped coming around," he admitted in a hushed voice.

"I didn't realize it either," she replied. "About me, I mean. Same thing. You know." She was getting nervous and flushed. She was drying the same plate, even though it was already dry.

Roger got a pair of glasses down. "Do you want something to drink?"

He had water, juice, cider, milk, but no liquor in the house.

"Maybe just some water," she said, placing the dry plates in the cabinet where they belonged. She moved to the table and sat down.

Roger came back with two glasses of water and sat opposite her. "I'd offer you something stronger, but I've emptied the flat of all that." Which probably made his loneliness more noticeable.

"Seems like a sensible idea, considering," she answered, though she couldn't help feeling slightly hurt by it. He obviously realized his mistake and decided not to repeat it. She took a sip of water.

"I used to only hurt myself by drinking too much..." he wasn't sure he needed to say more than that. He felt awkward saying more than that.

He didn't need to say more. She understood. He was hurting her. She nodded but didn't know what else to say. Instead, she took another sip of water.

"How've you been?" He asked before quickly occupying his mouth with a drink of water.

"I've been okay." She didn't really know how much detail to go into. She definitely wasn't going to tell him about the pregnancy scare. That would just make his night worse. "I needed some extra money, so Marcus moved into my spare room. And I've been working as many hours at the cafe as I can." She'd been picking up extra shifts left and right to keep from thinking about how miserable she was. "What about you? Apart from Brighton, I mean."

He shrugged. "Just working. Not much else to it. Minimal socializing. Working, coming home, reading to Brighton at night." He wondered, silently, if Marcus threw toast at her when she forgot to change the toilet paper.

Sometimes. "Well. I wouldn't be opposed to babysitting again so you could have an adequate social life." She hated to offer, but as cheesy as it sounded, if Roger found someone he was happy with, then Lisa would be happy.

"Maybe I can get Leanne MacFusty to babysit some night and you and I can hang out," not that he'd know what to do hanging out with Lisa without Brighton there.

Lisa couldn't hide her excitement. Mostly, because she hadn't been smiling until that point. "That would be great!" She said, with maybe a little too much enthusiasm. Though, what they'd do was beyond her. So far, they only managed to talk about Brighton or have sex. They really had no middle ground.

"I mean. I love Brighton and babysitting him, but it would be a nice change to get to spend time with people my own age."

"Yeah, exactly. And most of the people I'd normally go out with are really bad influences." They tended to get him piss drunk and then ditch him for some slutty girl.

"Yeah. I just take advantage of drunk men..." She though, but realized she said aloud. She blushed a deep red and took another sip of her water, looking away from Roger.

After a moment, she spoke again. "I'll try to be on my best behavior."

Lisa cleared her throat nervously. "I wasn't complaining," she said quietly. "And I was supposed to be the responsible one, so for that I apologize."

"And I was too drunk to have much manual dexterity. So for that, I apologize." It was a slight dent to his ego that her memory of his sexual prowess was sloppy kissing and impatient shagging.

"We're a pair, huh?" She shot a goofy smile his way and leaned back in her chair. It was actually quite funny, if you got over the initial shock and total not-funny part of it. The fact that they were talking about it so readily, or just talking about it in general put her mind at ease.
