Who: Leanne and Roger
When: Tonight, around 7pm
Where: Roger's house
What: Surprise Food Delivery

Leanne made mac and cheese from scratch, and put little cut pieces of hot dogs in it. It looked delicious, actually, which surprised her immensely. She wasn't really used to succeeding in her cooking. But this was for an adorable little boy--and apparently was his favorite. She packed the meal up; the mac and cheese dish, a tossed salad, some apple juice, store-bought cookies and a bottle of wine, and headed out the door.

Leanne found Roger's home address in his case file. It was completely against protocol for her to snatch it, but she was cleared for that kind of information. It wasn't like she was stalking him, or anything.

She walked up to his front door and knocked, hoping she wasn't too late for Brighton's bedtime.

Oh God, she was going to put him on the spot. Roger felt the colour drain from his face as Brighton added, enthusiastically, "Oh the best voices."

Way to give him something to live up to.

Leanne glanced from Brighton to Roger, then back again. "I can't wait to hear them."

Then they were in Brighton's room. Leanne glanced around, being forcably reminded of her little cousin's bedroom back at her aunt's house.

Brighton climbed into bed and Roger went to get his copy of Where the Wild Things Are. He sat at the foot of the bed. "Alright then. Here goes, "Once upon a time there was a Princess named--"

"That's not the right book!"

Leanne sat down on her knees beside the bed, watching the two of them in turn. She gave a bright grin when Brighton said it wasn't the right book.

"Come on, Roger, get with it.' She kidded.

"The night Max wore his wolf suit, his mother..." Roger often wondered how Brighton saw this book, not having a mum himself. "... and he roared his terrible roar," Roger went on in a snarly voice. Brighton put up claws and roared back.

Leanne's cheeks were going to grow sore at how much she was grinning. She laughed at the interaction: the roars between father and son. She almost wanted to roar with them, but didn't want to interrupt the touching scene. She felt honored to be able to watch it.

"And it was still hot." He concluded.

"Alright, time for you to get some shut-eye." Brighton settled back and Roger tucked him in. "Goodnight squirt."

"Night Monster." Brighton made a face as his Dad kissed his forehead.

Leanne climbed up and headed out of the room. She didn't want to say anything, she was afraid that she'd ruin the magic of the beautiful moment between father and son. She was hoping to slip into the hallway without either of them noticing she'd moved.

When he was sure Brighton was going to sleep, Roger left the room and shut the door to keep it quiet. "I think he's down for the night. Let's hope." Sometimes he got stubborn about his bed time.

Leanne nodded. The grin on her face was fading from an excited, gleeful grin to a more sedated, happy grin. "Here's hoping." She whispered back, leading the way back toward the kitchen.

"You have a lovely home." She added softly, turning to him.

"They pay me very well to make sure they don't have to pay morons." Roger liked his job because nine times out of ten it was half wits or opportunists suing the hospital. He got to crush greedy buggers and get paid handsomely for it.

Leanne nodded. She hadn't really been talking about the high class of the home, but rather the homey feel of it. It was lived-in, and it felt warm.

"You must be good at what you do." She said, stepping into the kitchen to help wrap up the leftovers for the fridge.

Roger followed her in, leaning against the counter. "People tell me I'm charming," he flashed that patented Roger Davies smile.

"And being charming makes you a better lawyer?" She asked, putting the leftover mac and cheese in the fridge. There was enough for a second night's meal.

"The very bestest," he said. Roger leaned on the door to the icebox and closed it when she was done. "Especially if the Wizengamot's loaded with skirts that day."

Leanne rolled her eyes playfully. "Right. Maybe I should have been a lawyer. I bet I'd see through your charms any day of the week." She reached for the wine bottle and poured herself a third of a glass.

"Yeah, but the hard part is convincing them to see through my charm." He took the bottle when she was done and poured just half a glass for himself.

Leanne slipped into a chair to sip at her wine. "Convincing who?"

"The Wizengamot. They're the ones who get to decide." He reminded himself to sip wine, not gulp it. Roger so rarely drank socially. When he did, it was things like whiskey with men.

"Oh. So they have to look past your charms? To see the truth, of course." She said, sipping again from her glass then setting it down.

"Or maybe my charms help them focus on the truth," he smirked. "You decide. Would this face lie to you?" He made a sad pouty face.

Leanne raised both eyebrows at the puppy dog face. "I don't know. That face does belong to a lawyer." She said, breaking into her own grin.

"Yeah, but despite the unfortunate occupation, it's still a rather pleasant face." If you tooted your own horn with the right amount of playfulness in your voice, it wasn't arrogance, it was jest.

Suuuure it wasn't. Leanne gave a laugh. "Are you always so full of yourself?" If you said the words with enough of a laugh in your voice and a smile on your face, it wasn't an insult, it was a joke.

"Not full of, sure of." Roger finished off his half glass of wine and found himself pouring more without thinking about it. "Oh come on, we're allowed to be aware of our assets."
