Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Leanne and Miriam
When: Tonight, late
Where: Leaky Cauldron
What: Leanne's obsession with Katie is making her an alcoholic.

Leanne headed to the Leaky Cauldron after work today. She decided that enough was enough. She was going to write down everything she felt, give it to Katie, and let the other woman make up her mind.

She didn't care if it ruined their friendship. Her heart couldn't take it anymore.

She was on her fourth or fifth (sixth?) drink of the evening, and was barely writing straight anymore.

"Well, as you're going to tell it anyway, do you mind sharing?" Miriam slid Leanne's glass away from her, doing it quietly so that maybe Leanne would think it had just vanished.

Leanne blinked, then nodded. She folded the parchment, and started to talk. "I'm in love with this girl. We went to school together, we've been best friends for... well, as long as I can remember. And she's the most amazing person in my--" she hiccuped again. "--my life. I just want to be with her. But she doesn't know."

"Necessary question... does she fancy girls?" Miriam was only momentarily thrown off by Leanne's confession of her sexuality.

Leanne shook her head. "I don't think so. That's part of the dilemma." She shrugged, lifting her quill once more and opening the parchment to jot down another word.

"I don't know, it always sounds so weird when I write it down." The writing was barely legible now.

"Hmmm..." here was the dilemma. If her friend was straight, with no possibility of being bisexual, then she could ruin the friendship with no chance for gain. But then, was it good to keep things bottled up? "I see your problem."

"I just can't keep it inside me anymore." Leanne said. "It's making me crazy. I either need her to know so we can move on, or I can move on, or... we can stop being friends." She lifted both hands to run through her hair, frustrated.

As long as Leanne was considering that as a possibility.

Tom had Miriam's food sent to Leanne's booth. She thanked the barmaid. "Have you been eating or just drinking?"

"I ate. Earlier." She'd had quite a bit to drink since then. She really needed to sleep. She put her forehead down on the parchment on the table in front of her.

"I wanted to send her this note, though. I was gonna leave--" she gave a hiccup. "--leave it on her desk."

"You should proof read it when you're sober." That would give her a chance to back out, if she waited. "I know my spelling is atrocious when I've had too many glasses of wine."

Leanne nodded, which lookd rather strange with her forehead on the table. She lifted her face, and the parchment stuck. When she reached up and pulled the paper off of her forehead, a couple of words were still imprinted on her skin, only backward. "love you."

"Yeah, you're probably right."

Miriam called to the bar for a glass of water for Leanne. "Even if things don't work out the way you hope, I hope it's a relief just to have it all on the table."

"It is. But I feel... I feel like I have to say it now. Now that it's off my chest, I really need her to know. To know, you know?" She was using her hands as she spoke, gesturing as if that would help convey her meaning.

Leanne took a very deep sigh and leaned back in her chair. "I don't know." She didn't like thinking about that, but she honestly wasn't sure.

"I think I'd need some time away from her to heal and move on." That was a deep thought considering how much alcohol she'd consumed.

Leanne nodded, gave a soft "thanks" and reached for the glass. She held it carefully between her hands as if it was a precious gem. But she didn't drink from it. She simply stared down at the clear liquid.

"My life is about to change."

Miriam didn't know what to say to that. She wasn't going to be unrealistic just to be comforting. She took a bite of her meat loaf instead. It was really good, she had been really hungry.

"I think I have to." Leanne said. "I have to clear it away, or I'll never get over it." She lifted the water glass for a sip. It was a small sip. She was starting to feel sick.

"I have to tell her."

"I'm so tired now. This really drained me."

She reached for the key and nearly fell over.
