To say Maddie Kate was exhausted this morning would be an understatement. She had woken up early to beat out hundreds of other out-of-work Seattle actresses for the chance to audition for a part in Seattle Repertory Theater’s production of The Glass Menagerie; after managing to arrive before 8 AM, she secure a place towards the front of the line. Her audition for Amanda went well, and the director assured her that they would be in touch. MK was certain she would at least be getting some role, and that was the first time in a while. She left the theater confident and with her usual strut in her step. It had been a down few weeks, but luckily things were beginning to look up.
All in all, it was a good start to the morning, but MK was so damn tired. And she had work in a few hours. Her usual vestige of hope would have to be put into play: coffee. Coffee, MK thought, was the most wonderful discovery anyone in the universe, humans or Creations, had made. Well, second most. Alcohol was still a favorite of Maddie Kate despite not partying as much as she did back in high school. (Alcohol and coffee? Oh, that was a thing of the gods.) Still, a shot of vodka would hardly help her fatigued state, and she made her way to her usual haunt for caffeine.
She found the coffee shop just about a few months ago, but she was already familiar enough to know most of the baristas who worked there. While MK loved talking to anyone, her favorite barista was one Callie Bennett, so she was happy to see her behind the register when she walked into the shop. "Hey, girl," she said with a grin as she sauntered to the counter. "How are you this beautifully cloudy morning?"
