Minor Injury Meme


A meme for those minor injuries that won't leave you down but make it hard to live your life. The breaks, sprains, and the hurt/comfort that comes with them.

INJURIES

1. SPRAIN: you stepped the wrong way, twisted the wrong way, and something has gone terribly wrong. Just remember RICE - Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.

2. FRACTURE: You step off the sidewalk, working in the backyard, and suddenly BAM!! But it's not a sprain, oh no, you're in a cast for the duration. Good luck trying to get to work.

3. PULLED: It's not bad enough for medical attention but it still hurts something fierce. Break out the tiger balm or someone to give you a hand because you've pulled something. That awkward moment when you think you want vicodin...and nobody will give it to you.

4. MIGRAINE: Light hurts, air hurts, moving hurts. All you can do is lie in a darkened room and pray for the pounding pain to go away behind your eyes.

5. THE FLU: Maybe you're physically fine – well… all your limbs are working. You just feel like death warmed over.

6. WILDCARD: Anything else you can think of.

SCENARIOS

1. INJURED! WHAT NEXT?: You're out working, you're out having fun, you're out doing something when suddenly you step, twist, move and our bodies demonstrate just how fragile they really are. Quick! someone call the ambulance!

2. THE EMERGENCY ROOM: All the fun of a waiting room with rewards that include crutches, casts, X-Rays, vicodin, and sometimes just that one nurse who says "Yeah there's nothing wrong with you that'll be 400 dollars."

3. HOME AND SETTING UP THE NEST: Hurt, trying to make a space for you to get around. Hopefully someone is there to help you get to your crutches so you can go to the bathroom and make yourself something to eat.

4. PHYSICAL THERAPY HOME EDITION: The obligatory smut option. Do you not see that I'm wearing this cast?

5. OH GOD HELP I'M GOING TO DIE: That awkward moment when the fact that you are bedridden is crushing down on you and you're terrified you'll do something to make the injury worse. Snappish, angry, and rude - who are you going to take it out on?

6. DRIVE ME TO THE DOCTOR THIS SHIT IS COMING OFF: It's time, they say you can come in, take it off, and begin the next stage of recovery. Failing that, you’re going to grab a saw and cut the damn thing off yourself! Will there be joy, laughter, crying, happiness?

7. WILDCARD: Anything else you can think of.

Scott was biting into a egg, bacon, and cheese croissant, and he was grimacing from the pain, but he managed to great his boyfriend. "Hey." He said, and leaned out, giving him a soft peck on the lips.

"Sandwiches, and a hashbrown. And juice. Mr. Miyagi's awesome." He said, giving the kindly old man a smile, who smiled back. "Miyagi good papa." He agreed, and bowed to Daniel. "Morning, Daniel-San." He handed Daniel two Aspirin. "For back and neck." He told him, he had spent his fair share of time sleeping in hospital beds overnight.

Daniel shifted to sit up, bowing his head to Mr Miyagi as he accepted the aspirin. "Thank you, Mr Miyagi. And thank you for breakfast." He opened up his bag and pulled out his food, taking a small bite.

He leaned over to stroke Scott's hair. "How are you feeling, babe?"

"In a lot of pain, I hit the button for the nurses, so they can give me another iv." Scott said, his eyes automatically slipping shut as Daniel's fingers went into his hair. He loved it, and he leaned out to kiss Daniel, softly and soundly.

Mr. Miyagi said, "Miyagi put in papers to adopt Scott-San. Scott-San deserve good papa." He had some rice for himself, and settled into a chair next to the bed, using his chopsticks to dig into his rice.

Scott looked at him, his eyes widening. "Really?! That's... That's so cool, Mr. Miyagi!" He said, grimacing as a wave of pain hit him.

Daniel kept his fingers in Scott's hair, stroking and petting softly. He loved the effect it had on Scott. He couldn't help but smile. He leaned in to kiss Scott back just as soft.

He blushed as he pulled away. "Huh... I guess that means I should... Mr Miyagi? I would like to ask for permission to date your son?"

Mr. Miyagi waved his hand. "Sometime Daniel-San smartaleck." He said, and Scott laughed a little, as the nurse came in. "I've got your new IV, Scott." She told him, moving to change his IV bag, and Scott let out a sigh of relief as the morphine hit his system.

"Scott, we're holding you for another day. We did an X-ray when you first got here, and there's some internal bleeding we need to take care of." Scott's brown eyes widened, and his hand reached out and took Daniel's, squeezing hard.

Daniel's heart sank when the nurse said Scott had internal bleeding. That wasn't good, was it? Internal bleeding was like a really serious thing. He clung to Scott's hand a little too tightly.

"Will Scott need surgery?" He asked the nurse, his hand trembling with worry in Scott's.

"Yes, there's no other way to stop it. When his father was..." She stopped for a moment, and Scott's brown eyes had rushed with tears, and his good hand was clutching Daniel's, just as tightly as Daniel was holding his. "When you were attacked, too much time was spent on your midsection. We've got to take care of it. Someone will be in shortly to prep you."

Scott's breath was short, as the nurse asked Mr. Miyagi to come with her and sign some forms. He agreed, and squeezed both boys' shoulders in reassurance as he went with the nurse. Scott tried to breathe, he felt a panic attack coming on.

This was supposed to be over. His arm was fucking broken. He couldn't sit without a pillow underneath him. Wasn't that enough?! "Daniel..." Scott gasped, tears slipping off his chin.

Daniel clung to Scott's hand. He couldn't believe this was happening. It wasn't fair. Scott didn't deserve this. He had suffered enough. He shifted to face Scott, taking his face in both his hands, wiping his thumbs across his cheeks to wipe away his tears. "It's okay Scotty. It's gonna be okay."

He tried to sound a lot more confident than he felt. He had to be the strong one. "It's gonna be okay, baby. I promise. They're gonna fix you right up then we can go home and cuddle up and binge watch bad tv and eat chips."

Scott wished he could believe that. But he also knew that Daniel needed to believe that, so he did his best to go along with it. He leaned out and kissed Daniel, like he never would again, sucking on his boyfriend's tongue. "I love you, Daniel LaRusso, more than I've ever loved anyone in this world."

He knew it sounded like a goodbye, but he couldn't help it. The surgery was serious, people died from internal bleeding all the time. He was crying so hard he hiccuped. A new nurse came in, bringing with her a tray of alcohol swabs, and what looked to be a shot.

"Okay, boys. Scott, it's time. I have to swab down the incision area, and I'm giving you a sedative, it should put you right to sleep."

Daniel kissed Scott back, cradling his face in his hands. He couldn't stop his own tears from falling too. "I love you too, Scott. My life has been so much brighter since you came into it."

He sniffled, trying to stop his tears as he climbed off of the bed. "I'll be right here when you wake up, okay? Right here."

The nurse had Scott all prepped in a minute or two, and told Daniel that it would be a few hours, so he should maybe get some sleep or some homework done, keep his mind off of it. Mr. Miyagi came back as they were wheeling Scott out. He made them stop, so he could say something to Scott.

He was already out, but to Mr. Miyagi it didn't matter. He'd chosen to take Scott as his own, he was going to make sure he reassured him. "Scott-San be safe. Doctor fix. Papa and Daniel-San wait for him." He whispered in Scott's ear, and then he bowed to him,

Then they whisked him out the door, and Mr. Miyagi moved to Daniel. "Daniel-San worry?" He asked, he sipped from a large cup of chai tea from Starbucks, holding out a fancy mocha fraooe thing for Daniel. He felt that was all just sugar, but it would give him energy.

Daniel accepted the frappe from Mr Miyagi was a small, whispered 'thanks' as he wiped furiously at his face, trying to stop those traitorous tears. He was trying to be strong and positive here, yet they kept falling.

He shook his head. "I'm not worried," he lied.

He was terrified. Internal bleeding was bad, right? Everything had felt like goodbye. "He's gonna be okay, right Mr Miyagi?"

"It okay to be scared, Daniel-San. But doctors know their stuff." He said, smiling softly, an expression he'd learned form Daniel and Scott. Sipping his tea, he said, "You are worried. It okay to be worried. Miyagi no lie. It scary."

Mr. Miyagi watched Daniel for a moment before he continued. "Miyagi pray. Miyagi no believe that gods put Scott-San through all to just die." He told Daniel, meeting his gaze head on. He handed Daniel a handkerchief.

"Scott-San be okay. Miyagi got what he pray for. I pray to be Papa. Now I am Papa." He said this with no doubt whatsoever.

Daniel wiped his eyes and sniffled as the tears finally started to slow. Maybe it was okay to be worried. Worry showed compassion and love. And boy did Daniel love Scott.

"Scott's really lucky to have you, Mr Miyagi," he said, managing a small smile. "You're the best father a guy could ever wish for."

Daniel hadn't been looking for a father figure. He'd survived since he was eight without one. But Mr Miyagi just seemed to slip into that role. Best friend, sensei and father figure. Daniel wouldn't change it for the world.

Mr. Miyagi bowed to Daniel. "Miyagi not know where he be without Daniel-San." He said, in a rare moment of sharing his own feelings. He didn't do it as often as he maybe should. But it was a generational thing.

"Son lucky to have Daniel-San too." Mr. Miyagi told him, sipping his tea. "Scott-San tell Miyagi that he was ready to kill self. But then he met Daniel-San. And Miyagi. He say that he wanted to live, first time in his life."

At this, tears brushed Mr. Miyagi's eyes. It had when Scott had told him.

Daniel returned the bow. It was one of the hardest things he found in his relationship with Mr Miyagi. He was a tactile guy. His whole family were. He loved to hug. Hugs were his love language. But he could count on one hand how many times he had hugged Mr Miyagi and still have fingers to spare.

"Was he... was he really that low? I can't imagine a world without Scott in. I don't want to imagine a world without him in. He'll be okay. He's got us. We'll keep him safe, right? Always."

Mr. Miyagi nodded. "Miyagi papa. Protect Scott-San." He said, tossing out his empty tea cup. He added, "Long surgery, we wait in waiting room." He wasn't sure where the closest one was. He was playing it cool for Daniel, but he was nervous. Very nervous. Who knew how long Scott had had internal bleeding? It might not have happened today.

His loser of a biological father had been abusing him for years. It could have happened months ago. He closed his eyes, trying to find his own center, doing wax on, wax off, imagining he was attacking Rafe McCall.

Mr Miyagi was Daniel's rock. The man was his hero. He had nothing but respect for the older man. He loved him. Plain and simple. If Mr Miyagi could be strong, then so could Daniel.

He sat himself down in one of the chairs, heels resting on the edge of the seat, knees drawn up to his chest. He tried to keep quiet, not wanting to disturb Mr Miyagi.

Daniel closed his eyes and did something he hadn't done in a long time. He prayed.

It was three hours later before someone came for them, it was the same nurse who'd checked him out earlier. "Mr. Miyagi?" The nurse asked, touching his shoulder gently. He jerked awake, he'd been having a nightmare about the war. "Miyagi okay." He was quick to say.

"Scott's doing okay, we stopped the bleeding. We also had to take out his appendix. He'll be recovering for awhile. If I were you, I'd have him do his schooling from home." She said. "You can go see him, he's out of intensive care."

A smile spread on Mr. Miyagi's face. "Miyagi so glad." He touched Daniel's shoulder. "Scott-San awake."

Daniel wasn't sure when he had fallen asleep. In fact he hadn't realised he had fallen asleep until Mr Miyagi touched his shoulder and pulled him from dreamland. He rubbed at his eyes and gave a great big yawn before rubbing his neck, trying to work out the kinks from sleeping in an awkward position.

"He's awake? For real? Can we go see him?" Daniel was already getting to his feet. He needed to see Scott with his own eyes.

"Yes, we can go see him." Mr. Miyagi replied, and the nurse led them to Scott's room. Scott was awake. He saw them and he grinned. "Hey, Pop, Daniel." He said, reaching out for Daniel with his good hand.

Scott looked much better, and he was on the good drugs. Scott blushed, he couldn't help himself. He was high as a kite. "Wow, you're so adorable, Daniel." He said, giggling.

Daniel laughed softly as he held Scott's hand in his own. It was good to see him smiling again, even if it was just because of the drugs in his system. He was alive. That was the main thing. If he was alive then he could heal. Everything would be okay in time.

He pressed a kiss to the top of Scott's head. "Okay, you should get some rest. It's been a long day. And you are high on meds."

"I just woke up though." Scott protested, giggling some more. "And I'm hungry. If I eat, then I'll sleep, deal?" He asked, giving Daniel his best smile. Then he kissed Daniel, nibbling on his bottom lip. Mr. Miyagi said, "Papa get food. Then Scott-San sleep." He told him firmly, squeezing Scott's shoulder.

"Papa go to cafeteria." He said firmly, and Scott gave him a bow. Mr. Miyagi smiled and bowed back, then left the room. Scott grinned. "I'm gonna love having a good dad." He said, squeezing Daniel's fingers.

Daniel returned the kiss, unable to fight a smile of his own. He threaded his fingers through Scott's hair lightly. "You really lucked out there. For real. Mr Miyagi is the best dad anyone could ever ask for. Seriously, the best."

If he was honest, he was a little jealous. Not that he would ever admit it out loud. He knew he was being silly. Besides, after everything Scott had been through he deserved a good dad.

"You know he's always gonna be yours too, right?" Scott asked, as if he could tell what Daniel was thinking. "He loves you so much. He told me once that having you in his life is like having a bull in a china shop, but he wouldn't change anything. He's not lonely anymore, and it's all because of you."

Scott's eyes had closed when Daniel's fingers went into his hair. His whole body was tingling all over. "No fair, you're getting me all turned on and we're in the hospital." Scott whined a little, opening his eyes again. Brown eyes met brown eyes, only Scott felt like he was looking into melted chocolate when he looked into Daniel's eyes.

"I'd be dead without you. You saved me in all the ways a person can be saved." Scott said, reaching up and tugging Daniel down to him gently so he could kiss him again. He felt it all the way down to his toes.
