Brian had gotten a late start, after the day before's entertainment. There was nothing like patriotism, alcohol and explosions to have you feeling it the next day. Apparently he'd had a better night than some though. News got around quick about Chief Albert's untimely demise. He called a couple of his clients to make sure they hadn't been spooked by the news, but people seemed more intrigued than concerned per se. It could be that the late police chief was going to be mostly unlamented. Brian could only agree. The jackass had it coming.
By the time he got around to reading the details in the local paper he'd picked up, he was parked at a table in his preferred cafe, drinking black coffee and waiting for his food. It was only years of negotiations and practiced lying that kept him from grinning openly as he read the brief report. Unlamented or not, he doubted it would look so good to publicly rejoice over an article about a murder.
