You don't know what's going on in her head, you should at least take that into consideration. Don't assume I'm wrong because you don't see it or feel that way, you know that by now, Derek. It's not like that but that doesn't mean she's not getting the wrong impression here.

Listen, I like what she does for you. I like that you have a friend and I think that she's good for you as a friend, all joking aside. I don't want to watch you lose that because of some stupid miscommunication.

You don't have to cancel the trip, I'm just saying, maybe clarification is needed. I don't think that you're insulting anybody's intelligence if all you want to do is make your intentions clear, if you're not interested in her then make sure she knows that because you 'realized how this could all seem'. You can even tell her that your friend was the one who saw it that way, I don't mind taking the blame here.
