The day had started out fun. It was hard not to have fun when you had an entire pack of friends and Six Flags laid out in front of you. She’d done the scariest rides she could find, went for too much cotton candy and didn’t bother to worry about anything past which line up was the shortest. Then she’d checked the network, and there was another reason to feel like her head was going to explode. But as much as she wanted to freak out, this was more about Scott. He said he wanted to see her tonight, so the first thing that came to mind was to bring him back to New York with her. The apartment almost silent, a relief after the amusement park. After she had brought Dakota out for bit, she so very ready to just sit down...and deal with whatever was going to come next. If she knew Scott at all, he was trying to figure out what to do with the baby that was not actually his, but still somehow was. He would want to figure out the right thing to do right away, and Kira had no idea what that would be. Kira dropped down onto her bed with a sigh of relief, and motioned for Scott to join her. “Even without someone always trying to kill us here, it always still manages to be something new every week.” Scott wasn’t sure if Kira would be comfortable with him asking if he could come over; they had been taking things slow. Starting out with dates and seeing where those went. But this changed things, he needed someone and he needed her, this wasn’t something that Stiles or Lydia could solve for him. He needed reassurance from someone who knew him intimately, and whether or not she liked it Kira was the only person here who could offer that other than Allison. And the Allisons here… they were different. He walked into her room and he collapsed on her bed beside her, lying down and staring at the ceiling for a long moment before releasing a low sigh. “I know.” He agreed dryly, and he paused for a few seconds before swallowing hard past a dry throat. This wasn’t just about him, it was about Kira too; how she would react to whatever he decided to do. How their relationship would handle it. A relationship, of course, that was already in a strange and awkward place. “I think I’m going to talk to Rikki. See what she thinks is the best for her daughter, because I don’t know what I should do at this point, Kira. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.” He turned his head to look at her with a little frown. “What do you think I should do?” Pushing herself back on her bed, she shifted onto her side and laid down beside him, propped up on one arm so she could see him clearly. She didn’t have an answer for this. Part of her wanted to tell him that he shouldn’t have anything to do with them. It was a different Scott, and that wasn’t his life. That was the most selfish option she was thinking. She also was genuinely concerned that different Scott’s would just confuse the baby. This Scott was not actually her father. But she also knew that Scott would not want to see a baby grow up without her dad, and what if that baby’s actual dad never arrived? “I think you should talk to Rikki.” Kira agreed, as much as she hated to admit it. “She’s the one raising her right now. I don’t think you can really make any choices until you know what Rikki is comfortable with.” Kira had little to no experience with kids, but part of her had to wonder how she would feel in Rikki’s place. She wasn’t sure she’d be comfortable with the idea of a different version of the baby’s dad, but there was no way for her to know this. Kira had heard of guys being surprised by kids. But this was completely different. “And if you do decide to meet her, how much are you going to be comfortable with?” What if the little girl started calling him dad or some other father-like name? The whole situation made Kira queasy, and she still didn’t know the exact reason why. Scott stayed silent for a few seconds when Kira shifted and responded to him, and although he knew that she was being honest, which he appreciated, he still knew that Kira probably didn’t like the answer. There were flaws in his plan and he could see them too, particularly with how the baby was going to react to his presence all the time, and whether or not it would get attached to a point of beyond what Scott would ultimately be able to fulfill. Only Rikki would know for sure, since it was her daughter, but that still didn’t make Scott feel any better. He wanted answers now, and a solution. Neither of which were coming easy. He turned to sit up on his own elbow to face her, and Scott hesitated for a few seconds before reaching out and brushing Kira’s hair behind her ear. “This is like, the most complicated thing that could have happened.” He admitted with dry amusement, because really in the grand scheme of things it almost seemed impossible for their relationship to have gotten any more awkward. “I’m sorry. I wish that there was an easy way to deal with this stuff, I never really thought I’d have to… you know.” He sighed through his nose with a crooked frown. “Are you upset?” Even drama that impacted normal people still came at them with a supernatural twist. Why couldn’t the portal have sent vampires or some sort of monsters to beat? Those were so much easier to wrap your head around. “Not with you.” she replied, her voice soft. “Not with her either, it’s not her fault.” Kira took a deep breath, dropping her gaze to the little section of bed between them. “It’s not anyones fault. It’s just..weird.” Weird was about all she had for it, which was not at all helpful. “It’s just that there’s this tiny person here now, who is apparently half you, but you have never got anyone pregnant. How do you wrap your head around that? If I think it’s weird, I can’t even imagine what you think.” It was like a bad science fiction movie. Straight to TV and only aired during the early morning hours when most people were asleep. “I can’t wrap my head around it,” Scott admitted honestly, frowning a little as he shook his head and looked down at the spot between them as well. “I can’t wrap my head around any of this. None of us belong here, I remember things about us that never happened for you, there are a million different Stiles and Lydia’s, Isaac is here and there’s never ending Allisons. I can’t wrap my head around any of it, but a baby is just - I don’t know, it’s crazy. And I don’t know what to do.” He finished with a defeated little frown at the end, and Scott fell silent for a few moments as he tried to concentrate on how he wanted to word himself next. He was comfortable around Kira, he never couldn’t be with what they had been through together, but this situation was a sensitive one. “I was thinking about hanging around here for a while.” He finally chanced, glancing up at her to try and make eye contact and probably making it a lot more awkward than it really had to be. “I mean, tonight. Staying the night, if that was alright with you. We don’t have to do anything or… you know, anything. I just really don’t feel like going home, I don’t think that I’ll be able to get to sleep.” He trailed off before tacking on, honestly, “I sleep better when it’s with you. Next to you. Next to you, not with - I sleep better.” Chances were it would take some time for him to wrap his head around in. So far he had not had any of that. Which meant she was going to have to give him time. Even if the thought was driving her totally insane. There really needed to be rules against babies showing up. She had crashed at Scott’s plenty of times before. It was never awkward of a big deal. They had also been from the same point in time, but that was something they needed to move past if this was going to work. “We’ve slept in the same bed before, Scott.” she pointed out with a small smile. It had been a while since that had happened, at least for her, but she knew what he meant. Kira felt better when he was there. “You can stay as long as you want. I want you to stay.” Even if all they got up to was sleeping, it was fine. Scott staying was a good step for them, and she wanted to support him if she could. “I’m really am sorry you have to go through this. You’ll figure out what’s right for you eventually. And I’m here for you, so is the pack. Just try to remember that when you’re figuring out what the right thing is, to keep yourself in mind too?” Scott couldn’t help but give a sheepish smile when she had pointed out that they slept in the same bed, and he gave a half shrug before sitting up a little on his elbow again as he looked at her. “I don’t know, I still feel like I should ask. You know, just in case.” It wasn’t really about what they had already done but what she wanted them to have now, and Scott wasn’t really sure about all of that. She had been here without him for a long time and it wouldn’t have been fair of him to pretend that it wasn’t the case, he had to be sure that whatever he thought would be okay actually was. He fell silent at her comment, however, because Scott wasn’t about to agree to something that he didn’t know how could hold up. Eventually he nodded though, and he shifted closer to Kira so that he could lie down beside her and rest his hand on her waist. “I will. I promise.” He finally agreed. “I’m not going to do anything that’s going to affect me negatively. If Rikki thinks that it’ll be good for her kid for me to stop by once in awhile then I will, but… not to be her dad. I’m not ready to be a dad.” He gave a little huff, staring off in disbelief that he even said that sentence. “I can’t believe that I was worried about stupid stuff like Chemistry a couple of weeks ago.” “It’s appreciated. But I said you could come over whenever you wanted. I meant it. Just promise me this time you aren’t going to try and sleep in a chair.” She knew guys like Scott were a rare find. As much as she wanted him to understand he could be here whenever he wanted, she appreciated how he never assumed anything. It was hard to know how she was going to react when he decided what he was going to do. But she could feel a knot come undone when he mentioned not being her dad. The whole situation still had her worried, but that at least was a relief. She would just have to deal with the rest when the time came. She relaxed a little, the smallest of smiles curling at her lips. “I think we’ve had enough of our fair share of drama in high school. Dad status because of an alternate reality shouldn’t be another one.” At that she grinned, and reached out to squeeze his hand on waist. “I hate to break it to you, Scott, but I think you’re still going to have to worry about Chemistry.” His smile only widened a little when she reminded him of his attempted chivalry, but he nodded in defeat, conceding. “I promise that I’m not going to try to sleep on the chair,” he finally agreed, amusement barely tinting his voice. “And yeah, definitely not ready for dad status. I can barely take care of myself, are you kidding?” He felt a little better knowing that Kira was not only letting him stay, but she seemed to genuinely want him there; it made it feel as if he had somewhere he was wanted, and somewhere that he could escape to. The fact that it was with Kira was all the better. “Yeah but now it doesn’t seem like that big of a deal,” he pointed out. “Once you find out that you have an interdimensional kid, fatty acids don’t seem that complicated anymore.” He reached out for her, brushing her hair behind her ear once more. “We don’t have to talk about this all night… but thanks for listening. Let’s… not think about it. I can deal with it later, but it’s too much today, I already have a headache thinking about it.” “You still get graded on fatty acids, at least. Don’t make me harass you about them, because I will. It’s not like I have school to worry about anymore.” she said teasingly, even though she hadn’t received her grades from her testing yet. It had only been a couple of weeks ago that she had taken her tests. Her grades should be arriving in a few more weeks. Kira knew he didn’t mean literal headache, still she nodded in agreement. “Subject dropped. Moving on. I kind of want to go take a shower to get the smell of amusement park off me. But do you want to crawl into bed after and watch Netflix? Or not watch Netflix. Whatever actually happens?” Either way, they really didn’t have to get up to anything, but the smile on her face said she missed him, a lot, and would take advantage of any opportunity alone with him that she could get. Scott’s sheepish smile returned when she insisted that she would end up testing him if she had to, because he knew that she meant it. “I’ll study,” he promised, his hand moving from her hair to awkwardly rub the back of his neck. His attention peaked, however, when she said that she wanted to watch Netflix. Well, no, his attention peaked when she followed that part up with maybe not watching Netflix, and he was nodding before he could even manage to formulate words. “Uh, yeah, that sounds great. Netflix. Or, you know, not Netflix, whatever happens. I’m good with whatever happens.” He finally sat up, his lopsided smile returning to him. “Go take a shower. I’ll pick something to watch.” She was grinning now, and leaned in for an all-too-quick kiss, before pushing herself up and off the bed. A shower gave her the chance to clean up, and relax. She needed that, before going on with the rest of the night, with whatever happened. “I won’t be long.” she said as she disappeared through the door toward the bathroom. |
