[ Natasha being a little lost in herself wasn't anything new to Steve - they both had a habit of getting lost in their own thoughts more often than most. For the most part they seemed to have settled into an understanding that option to talk it out was always there, but that it was never expected. Maybe that was why they worked so well - they were content to just sit there with the other in silence when they found themselves thinking too much about the things that haunted them. However, there was a difference between being quiet and the distracted, almost nervous, energy that all but radiated off Natasha right then. Steve knew there weren't that many people in this world who knew Natasha - he considers himself lucky to be one of those very few. He's spent enough time with her - as everything from her partner in the field, to her friend, to the relationship they had now - to read her as well as anyone probably ever would be able to.
He glances up at her from behind the sketch pad resting on his bent legs, his back against the arm of the couch. She's on the other end of the couch, his feet tucked somewhat under her as she reads a book and he swears she's been on the same page for the past twenty minutes. His page is a mess of random things, doodles more than anything concrete, and he glances back down at it before he speaks. ]
Must be one hell of a book. [ He says it dryly and it's more than clear he knows she's not reading it - it's an open to talk, not a comment on the book itself. ]
