Mystic Falls, Virginia.
On first view a quiet, idyllic town on the east coast filled with historic buildings and leafy suburbs. A place that most people would kill to live in and some, quite literally, do.
From the moment it was founded Mystic Falls was plagued with strange happenings, but none more strange than what has recently befallen the town. In a bid to rid the town of Lily Salvatore and her Heretics once and for all, Bonnie Bennett attempted to cast a spell that would expel the Heretics and send them back to their prison world.
It backfired. Badly.
Instead a magical barrier appeared around the town trapping everyone who enters Mystic Falls knowingly or otherwise. If that weren't enough, people from other worlds (prison worlds, perhaps?) have begun mysteriously appearing in the center of town.
With no knowledge of how they got here or what happened to them, the residents of Mystic Falls now have an even bigger problem on their hands than the Heretics. How can they stop the spell's power from randomly snatching people from their homes? How can they lift the barrier around Mystic Falls? More importantly, how will they manage to live alongside both the strangers to town and the Heretics?
