Multi-fandom/community challenge RPG. [08 Jan 2010|05:39pm]
What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.

And what if you just happened to be one of those things? Left to rot in Vegas… or what looks like Vegas, after all, but eventually it becomes clear to everyone caught here that this place is hardly familiar (despite first impressions). Perhaps you fell asleep and awoke here. Perhaps you were wounded. Perhaps you were being wrapped in Death’s cold embrace. All you know is that you woke up here with only your clothes on your back and your story, your memories. You seem to be completely unchanged, no worse for the wear, no better.

Of course, there are others. Others with the exact same explanation… which is none at all, perhaps because there is no explanation, no rhyme or reason to why you are here, no pattern or sense to it. Of course, you finally pose the lingering question, stare the elephant in the room right in the eyes and ask, “Has anyone just… gone home?” They laugh because you don’t know, and when they’ve had their fill, someone tells you;

“You think you can just go back to life the way it was? Seems right, doesn’t it? Just walk down the highway, back home. Hitch a ride. But this isn’t Vegas. There’s only us, the ones who woke up here.”

Someone else speaks. “We’ve all tried. You get to a certain point and just fall asleep.”

“You faint. You can’t help it. It feels like incredible pressure, everything starts spinning and you get tunnel vision. Your head hurts and it feels like a hundred needles all over until you’re on the ground, screaming, feels like your head’s being split open. You can still go back. But you take one more inch, you crawl and it’s lights out. You’re back in the city. The highway goes on for about two miles in each direction, it’s like some kind of trick.”

Then there’s silence because no one knows what else to say.

Eventually you realize that you’re not in Vegas because things keep happening. Inexplicable, sometimes terrible things, and you can’t decide what’s worse … the elements, the unexplained occurrences or the secrets? Others’ secrets. Perhaps you’re all here for a reason…you must be. You’re just not sure what it is yet… or if you’ll live to see it. It seems to get worse every day.

You awaken in a room that is devoid of decorations. You are lying on a small cot, a table beside you. Upon the table is a device, similar to that of a PDA. Closer inspection reveals your name inscribed upon the back below an insignia the likes of which you have never seen.

The device is on. On the screen is
a note, written in your native tongue. Once the letter is finished, it disappears and in its place is a map leading you to your assigned housing. The door to the room opens at this time and a computerized voice tells you to exit. The corridor is long and narrow. It deposits you out onto an unfamiliar street. The city is large, the architecture foreign. The door behind you closes and you are left alone.

Feel free to explore. You cannot leave the city but all of your needs will be met. Anything you can want, within reason, can be found here. The locals are mostly friendly and compassionate. Their duty is to make your stay here a comfortable one. After all, you are their guest. You are their responsibility.

You are now a member of Project Papillon.
