Who: Jack and Jerome (and later Kate) Where: The obstacle course When: Right after this!
Girlie.
Jack couldn't help it, the sound of that word, even coming out of someone other than Simms, made him cringe a little. It wasn't something that Scotty would know, not unless someone told him, but the kid used it so casually that Jack doubted it. Besides, he hadn't talked to him much, but he had a feeling that wasn't something he'd toss around like an asshole if he did know.
He thought about Juno. He always thought about Juno.
The guy next to him, the one with the accent, was talking, and he was remotely aware that he was nodding along to the initial part. The recording drew his full attention, and he frowned thoughtfully as he listened, glancing at the obstacles closest to him as their task was laid out. Having something else to focus on for a little while helped, and as the recording drawled on he began to lightly stretch in place.
"Oh, this isn't so bad," he chirped pleasantly when the explanation had finished. His small grin was slightly lopsided as he turned back to the new guy, nodding. He couldn't place the accent, but Jack surmised that English probably wasn't his first language, and he wasn't about to knock the guy for not getting the rules right off the bat.
"Oh yeah, I got you." He nodded and gestured to the lines of obstacles a bit to their right, shifting his gaze over his shoulder briefly to see that there was another line of them on the other side of the platform, then looking back to the first. "Okay so, what you've gotta do is pick any of the four starting obstacles up here. There's two on this side and two on the other one. Work your way down one line until you hit the last platform, then come back up and do it again with a different set. Twice and you're done, then we just need to wait for everyone else to finish and we can go. It's only going to count it if you do all the obstacles in one set, so if you start on this one here," he pointed to the closest obstacle to their position, then bounced his hand down to indicate the other two, "you've got to do all three. Basically, just don't hop off the roller coaster until the ride's over and you're golden." He turned slightly, holding his hand out. "I'm Jack, by the way. Chef from New York."
