There was nothing like the stress of going to a new school, unless you were from different cultural backgrounds, in a new country, and trying to find a place to fit in for a few minutes just so you could eat your lunch. Then even if you could find a place to eat lunch, in the lunch room, you had the awkward moments when people realized you weren't eating their food, or with their utensils. It was too much for Natsumi to deal with, she liked the school enough so far, but she didn't feel like subjecting herself to that humiliation right at this second. Sure, it may have made things easier if she'd just bought something the school had to offer, or if she'd just had American food in general, but she didn't want to eat that type of food. Hell she spent a lot of money just to get imported food from online shipped to her here in America, she wasn't going to waste yet more money to eat greasy food that would probably make her sick after a few bites! So, this all left to wonder, 'where to eat?' So as the rest of the school, at least those with this lunch period, were making their way to the lunch area, Natsumi took her black lacquered box with pretty little straps keeping it closed and placed it into the gray silk messenger bag she kept strapped diagonally over her shoulder and midsection, turned in the middle of the crowd and walked in the opposite direction. She didn't know if it was ok for her to go eat somewhere else, but since no one had sat her down and told her specifically that she absolutely had to eat inside the building, she didn't figure she'd get in trouble, even if she did...she wouldn't care. In Natsumi's mind, she was her own authority figure, and didn't like other people telling her what to do. If she wanted to eat outside, then outside is where she would eat, she just had to figure out where would be a secluded enough place for her to eat. Outside the school grounds, in the grass, seemed too open - therefore not secluded. People could look at her, she hated when people watched her eat, even in Japan. Personal issue. So with a quick look around, she made her way to a staircase and made her way up the schools levels quickly. At the second floor she stopped to brush her hair out of her face, eyes shifting around to make sure she wouldn't get caught by a teacher. How long did they have for lunch anyway? At the rate she was going, by the time she found a place, she'd probably already be needed in her next class. The thought made her wrinkle her nose in distaste before pushing herself into a sprint up the next staircase, she had to admit she liked this school, she'd definitely be able to stay fit in this place. At the top level of the school, Natsumi looked around, without realizing she had a plan already set out in her mind, she looked for a door or the largest window that could be opened, whichever came first. She ended up making her way over to one of the larger windows, pressing on it to see if it would do anything, but the damn thing was sealed, no opening at all. Then she found a smaller one, with a latch, only this one was sealed just from not being opened in so long. She pushed and pulled until finally her upper arms ached, but at least it moved, sliding upwards just a little. Just as she got the window to open, her phone started to ring. The haunting notes from Chakushin ari, a favorite movie, at first were muffled, but soon she started digging through her bag to find the slender red blackberry she'd splurged on. The number unknown, she made a face before tossing the phone back into the back, the sound of the charms dangling from the phone hitting together were soon all that twas heard as she once more closed the bag so that the image of the paint screen of a large black crow could be seen. Sliding her fingers through her hair before once more turning to the window, leaning on her hands so she could look out the window and see how she could make it to the top...after all...she couldn't fly. |
