- Jace and Simon were waiting just beyond the perimeter as anyone started to arrive

Sam kept expecting himself to get used to the explosions, but it continued to disturb him. He was glad he wasn't the only one startled by it. "Nah, man, but thanks. I grabbed some water about an hour ago and that'll keep me for a bit. How are you holding up out here?" He didn't know Kal all that well, but it was hard to not be at least familiar with everyone from the net and common gatherings. He glanced over at the smoldering rubble. "It's a lot, you know? Even if you take out the physical aspects of being out here all night." They still had no idea what was going on with the inhabitants and had so far been powerless to do anything about it.
