At that point he was having a hard time even breathing. It was hurting every ounce of his being. He nearly dropped the tablet, and saw the look in his husbands eyes as he turned toward him to try to shield him from that blast.

"Okay..." He managed, speaking was difficult just then. "okay. Help me back to the car." He couldn't even function without Ben just now, what else could he have done? Monitoring could be done from a distance, and the last thing he wanted to do was be the source of Ben's tears and worry. He worried about those he loved who were inside, but he couldn't be much help if he was dead. His powers weren't working. It took everything in him not to run towards it, but Ben was that everything he needed not to.

The tightness in his chest wasn't only brought on by physical pain. He stood the best he could, an arm on Ben. The other holding that tablet. Lydia's words rang through his head from her message. There were casualties.

He couldn't let himself break down though, it wasn't the time. In spite of his body feeling like it was on fire, and friends potentially gone, he forced through it. "Damnit."

Each step back to the car seemed to be excruciatingly slow, like they were trapped in their own kind of time dilation. Sure, they'd parked a pretty good distance away, with the security and science staff already on site, but not so far that it would take seven hours to get there. He shared a look with the med tech keeping up with them on Cisco's other side. They were doing the right thing, leaving, even if the guilt was obviously weighing just as heavily on his husband as the symptoms of proximity to this phenomenon was.

The arm around Cisco was steady, and eventually Ben got his husband settled in the car. He kissed his cheek after buckling him in. "Let's get you home."

Carlita, the SI med tech, slid into the backseat with a simple and inarguable, "He needs to be monitored."

And so Ben didn't argue. He just needed to get Cisco home. His net device was buzzing continuously, but he'd have to catch up later. The situation was dire, but there was nothing they could do from there. It was better to be home, to ride out the storm in the safest port they currently had. Ben squeezed his husband's thigh before getting the car started, but he didn't have any affirmations that didn't just sound like empty lies. Instead, he went for something true: "I love you, and I'm so, so sorry."
