Now GJ is gone for good ...
I was considering posting some of the old threads I have archived to Gdocs and publishing them so we can link to them. We used to do that a lot with annual events like the Ouroubos board meetings, especially as there used to be annual plot involved.

Then it occurred to me that some of you may have threads or story arcs that you'd particularly like to see accessible again.

Any suggestions? Ang/Alec and their hideously long and painful courtship? Joe/Lilith? Adam/Icene? Or, for those of you who remember back that far, Elspeth/Will?

Editted to add - I've had a request for more spooky goings on. What do you think? Is it worth wasting a spooky event at a time when people are too busy with actual plot for crack-thread, or is it worth putting off plot to have a bit of gratuitous fun? Alternatively, would you like to post a request for one when it's convenient and if enough other people want one as well accept whatever our minds can come up with?

We didn't even save all of it... although I do have my threads and journals archived using LJ_Archive? I think most people managed to pull their journals that way?

I have no idea how that might work for a GDoc though.....

And yes, it was long, and parts of it were painful, and um, still very memorable I suspect!

You copy/paste the thread into notepad to get rid of the icons and buttons then use find/replace to get rid of all the unnecessary text. Like so:

Not in the kitchen, not the bathroom, that really only left the bedroom, and Icene paused in the doorway to just watch for a few moments. Then of course she had to breathe, and a waft of cold air headed his way as she leaned in the doorway and grinned, "Are you ever off duty Major?"

His head snapped up and he spun around in his swiveling desk chair. "Hey! Look who it is! You're home early, aren't you?"

Becomes this:

Adam's head snapped up and he spun around in his swiveling desk chair. "Hey! Look who it is! You're home early, aren't you?"

You have to tweak it a bit to make it readable because people often rely on the icons to give the speaker identity, but it can be done fairly easily. If you're really enthusiastic you can edit it and add bits.

I'll get to work on those.... of course, I have the *whimpers* entire archive for anything and everything that Ang or Emma or any of my pups posted back then.... sorting that lot out into readable threads could take me a looooooong time!!!

Requests will be taken if anyone wants to read anything in particular again!

I've done 2005, and 2006 but only the plotted story arcs. I thought that the relationships could take care of themselves. Once you get into the swing of it, it doesn't take that long and it's a grand thing to do to while away the time when there's nobody to play with.

I'm going to make a start on 2008 because we can't archive comments on IJ and it would be a pity to lose it.

OUCH!!! No back ups for a year plus??? I mean sure yeah we could just back up the posts, but to lose all the comments? Not good news. (Not that I'm either a pessimist or a cynic, but hey, GJ wasn't gonna die either remember?)

I can start transcribing old threads within the next few days, just let me know if you need any help doing it Sal, I might be slower and less dedicated to doing it, but I am more than capable of doing a thread or two a night if it helps?

I appear to have the full comms of GJ archived complete with comments (no idea how that happened, but hey, it did!) uh huh, ALL the old comms, from Dec 2004 right up to Jan 2008, so if you want me to do anything with those - just say so!

And if you want some help with the IJ stuff, let me know that too huh?

That should really have been 'long and hideously painful' although I must admit it gave me a few uncomfortable *head desk* moments.

But I can't talk. People kept saying 'oh just let them screw, already' to me and Kel over D and Charlie for aaaaaaages.

A bit of hesitation and drama can be good for a relationship.... I just think we really took it to extremes! But it was fun to write! Mostly.

I think I might just transcribe all of those threads first.. *grins* The ones we haven't done already of course, there are some in GDocs I think.

To add:

Sam and I have been thinking about doing another Memorial Day (weekend) BBQ like we did last year. I know it's not spooky related, but could do for a Manor-wide event if folks were/are interested. This year it could also have the benefit of doubling as a going away party for Adam.

Kk booked it. Monday 25th May. Or would you want the barbeque on Saturday 23rd?

Probably make more sense to have it over the weekend, but whatever works for the majority. That's what it's all about after all. :)

I might not be around much that weekend. May 23 is my wedding anniversary and May 25 is my brother's and Slater's (some of you know who he is) birthdays. Which means I shall be a busy bee I'm sure. But feel free to have the party and Sal can god any of my pups as needed.

We could move it back a weekend, to the 16th, if that's better for you? I'm graduating the 17th and might be a little slow-timed the following day, but can probably manage Saturday.

I'd be up for more ghostly stuff whenever it works best for everyone else!

Contrary to what my slow posting lately may say, I am still around! Just doing lots of Writely-ing for various plot things that are going to come up later on.

I think I've got a good chunk of stuff on LJ Archive (as Sam does) which, unless it doesn't work should suffice me for what I need from past threads. I'm horrible with names and dates of stuff for my pups (bad mun!)

Ghostly activity sounds good about now. Roxy's easily spooked in the basement. Tristan wouldn't be much of a believer if it hadn't been for the slimey pool monster. Travis and Memphis need a visitor. Maybe somebody after shineys that can ransack the apartment? Just some ideas.

The mailbox mixups from the last idea throwing session sound like a good idea too. I didn't think it had been put into action, so if it was then I guess I missed it.

Also, if I'm not on as much as I have been... there's three weeks left of the spring semester, two weeks off and a month for summer classes. Three papers and at least three more art projects, plus certifying for CPR/First Aid... (breathe... no drawing next semester!)

More spooky would be good. I like spooky. Ang and Emma believe in almost anything right now... after all they've been here the longest. Spencer is good with Ghosties, Icene gets mad and freezes things and Jane is kind of the screamer in the mix.

Being a spring full of sunshine and what seems to be much happiness right now I can't see the spooks and demons liking that much so we're probably about due an attack of the creepies/nasties.

The Memorial Day BBQ was an excellent idea - even if people are having parties and graduations, we could still do it at some point. It's not like we need to finish the thread on the same day it is started, right? :D

More little Manor-wide things would be fun, and not only spooky things even though they are really fun to write. I remember that last summer we had something like a heatwave in the city and the air conditioning breaking down in the Manor? Some little things like that. They would make OTA's easier when people have something to relate to and talk about. Like the elevator is broken for a day, or that o-m-g Joy is sick and not at the Mocha for days, what is Mocha without Joy! or maybe there would be a film crew shooting a few scenes for a movie in the beautiful ball room... These are fairly easy to come up with when you put your mind to it.
