September 28, 2020 - A Meeting of Friends
Who: Neville, Luna
Where: Divination Tower
When: Eveningish time. After classes are over.
Rating: G? XD
Invasion:

Status: Closed / Finished
Summary: Neville makes what he finds to be an exhausting trip up to the Divination classroom to visit with Luna. They have a fun chat about old times, and kids today during which they feel old.

He'd been busy, sure, but that was no excuse to neglect his friendship duties, and so when Neville remembered, and got a free moment, he put away his work for the evening and started up the long winding staircase to the Divination Tower. He wasn't certain that Luna would be up there – and if she wasn't, he would be rather annoyed at himself for wasting a trip – but he thought it was a good enough place to start.

Though he regretted the decision not to check her office first when he reached the top of the tower, somewhat winded – it really had been too long since his last visit. Tugging on the trapdoor – just to get it open, not to actually climb it yet – Neville gasped a bit for air, leaning against a nearby wall.

Peering up the stairs, he weakly called out, "Luna?"

Neville chuckled softly. "Indeed!" he said, making a fist and pounding it lightly on the table. "They have it far too easy. We should assign additional homework assignments and be tougher on the pranksters to make up for it!"

He turned his head to peer over his shoulder as if expecting to see a student who was going to start spreading the rumour that Longbottom and Scamander were plotting extra homework assignments to.... make up for the fact that these students hadn't suffered through a war. He laughed out loud at the ludicrousness of the situation.

"Somehow I don't think a few more inches of parchment is really going to make a difference," she teased, "If they've grown soft by this point, I fear there's no saving them. Perhaps heroics skip a generation?"

She reached out to prod Neville lightly with one foot, smiling almost affectionately to him. Yes, this was nice, even if they were acting like complete prats. Sometimes you just had to.

"By that logic they're children will be completely prepared for the next war," Neville pointed out, finding it very difficult to keep his laughter contained long enough to string the words together.

He shook his head as he thought about it. "Can you imagine some of these nutshells with kids? Do you suppose it was this hard for our Professors when we started growing up?"

She laughed along with him, equally as amused.

"I don't want to imagine them with children," she admitted, "But I suppose you're right; our professors were likely sitting about having this same conversation when we were students."

Though really, Neville didn't have kids. But that was just details.

"Ah, but heroics skip a generation," he said, as the thought came back to him. "So perhaps our professors did not talk about us this way, as we were heroic? That still leaves us free to talk about kids today. With their pranks and their attitudes," he stuck his nose in the air. "Good thing we were never like that."

He thought he might be talking himself in circles now. But logic had flown out the window quote sometime ago, so he went with it anyway.

"I'm pretty sure we were like that," she countered with a grin, "It's all about perspective, I'd wager. Everything looks different from the other side of it."

She smiled to him, thinking idly that it might have been nice to have had this kind of camaraderie when they were younger. They'd been friends, but ... well, she was certain even Neville had thought she was loony.

Neville clutched at his heart. "No, say it isn't so!" he said dramatically. "Please tell me we were never like... well all right," he grinned, unable to keep up the act for long. "I suppose we were a little bit pigheaded during our time as students. Well, I was at any rate," he grinned. "I suppose you being a claw were always at your top form. Never making any silly rash decisions. Always thinking everything through and making the smart call."

"Well obviously," she agreed, "I've always been the perfect picture of logic. Top form simply comes naturally."

She hopped down from the desk like a woman half her age might do.

"Guess I haven't changed that much, right?" she ventured with a grin, "I mean, I'm now head of the 'claws, but other than that, I'm still the same as I was when I was but a slip of a girl."

She laughed, though; things had changed more than she was letting on. For the better, she hoped.

"Or maybe you're just not noticing the changes," Neville said with a smile. "I think we all feel that way - since we change on a day to day basis, it's hard to look back and remember where we were a year, or 10 or 20 years ago. But I reason we've changed more than we realize."

He smiled at her warmly. "I think you've changed," he shared with a smile. He certainly had an easier time understanding her now. Though he supposed that could just as easily be contributed to the fact that he'd changed.

"Maybe," she agreed, "You've changed, too. I'm pretty sure. Maybe."

She supposed there were things she ought to be doing, but somehow sitting here hanging out with an old friend seemed like the most enjoyable so she was going with that.

"For the better, I'd hope?" He said. "Not just in appearance? I'd like to think that I've grown up a little." He grinned at her.

He did wonder when he should go, start to make the trip back downstairs to his room, but he reasoned that going down would be a whole lot easier than the trip up had been, so he wasn't overly concerned with it. Though maybe Luna wanted to go to bed at some point, and he should leave her to that.

"For the better," she agreed before stretching slightly and grinning a bit to him. "So were you planning on staying late tonight or do I get to settle a bit before bed?"

She was teasing mostly, but she was a bit tired. It would seem that was one of those things that came with age. Or something.

Neville pretended to look indignant.

"You're going to make me walk all the way down those flights of doom simply so that you can get to bed a bit earlier?" he asked, clutching at his heart. "I've barely even had time to catch my breath from the walk up here Luna!" he teased, enjoying being overdramatic.

He did rise to his feet though, supposing their conversation had come to a close. "Though I suppose you're going to tell me I need the exercise?" he teased.

"I am," she agreed, "If you came to see me more often maybe you wouldn't complain so much."

She grinned a bit to him and winked before laughing a bit.

"Though I guess next time it's my turn to visit you, hmm?" she ventured lightly.

He smirked a bit, and nodded his head. "Suppose I should then," he teased. "I would hate to bore you further with my constant complaining."

He paused, and grinned to her question. "If you'd like," he offered. "Though I imagine I could make the trek back up here more frequently than I do now. But you're always welcome to stop by for a visit, whenever you'd like."

"I'll keep that in mind," she said softly, "Good night, Neville."

She lifted one hand in a wave, smiling gently to him. Yes, this had been a good encounter indeed.
