September 25, 2020 - Teacher's Lounge
Who: Ari, Ace, open
When: Evening
Where: teacher's lounge
Status: Open, ongoing

While Ariana could have graded her papers in her room, or her classroom, or the small office that had been allotted to her that she knew she'd never use, she found the teacher's lounge to be infinitely more interesting. Tonight, she had a test to grade for her third year class, and she wasn't looking forward to the abyssmal results. Despite a change in her curriculum, Ari thought they still weren't really catching on.

Which meant another revision in her third year syllabus to slow things down further, and amendments in future years for the ones that stuck with the class.

Exhaling, she let herself into the teacher's lounge, and she offered a smile to the woman already there. One of the other new staff members - the healer. "Evening, Miss Sumner," she greeted her with a bit of a tease in her voice.

"To you as well, Miss Silver," Acevona returned with a grin. The Muggle Studies professor had proven to be one of the people that Ace liked upon meeting. They'd developed something of a friendship, and she found herself occasionally seeking out Ari for conversation when things got ... crazy in the infirmary.

She eyed Ari's work, and decided that - unless the professor wanted to chat - she'd leave her to her work. She did, however, get her a cup of tea. Perhaps someone else would roam in? Ace smiled as she settled back in her seat with the newest copy of a magazine dedicated to new advances in the healing field - very interesting reading, that.

Ace thought about that as she started away from the lounge down the hall toward the infirmary. "Yes," she decided. "It still counts as stalking. Shadow hiding is just... extra credit," she continued with a faint smile.

She opted not to comment on his assessment of Ari getting what she'd wanted, but instead simply smiled.

"Much better," Ari decided. "How long do you think you can keep that up for?" she inquired, a bit of an impish grin on her lips before she leaned forward to let him get at more of her back - if he was interested, of course.

She wouldn't abuse this, of course ... but as long as he was inclined, and willing, she certainly had nothing against his hands being on her back.

"Extra credit?" Darl asked, grinning with amusement. "Well, in that case, perhaps I should attempt it."

He paused. "On second thought, perhaps not. I'm not terribly stealth. I'd imagine you'd see me."

He rather thought himself to be quite funny.

"Until my arms get tired," he reasoned, voice tinged with amusement. "Though I'm not sure when that would be," he said, genuinely answering her question. "I don't give extended massages very often."

Or at all really, but she seemed to be appreciating it. He started to move his hands further down her back, pressing his hands into the muscles.

Ari yelped then giggled as he happened to find one of the odd ticklish places on her back. "Sorry," she said as she glanced back over her shoulder at him. "It's the angle. This works much better when I'm laying down."

And while she meant that in a completely non sexual way, she made the jump to the sexual pretty easily, and at least had the good grace to blush.

"You ... not stealth? Really?" Ace smiled over to Darl. She herself happened to be fairly stealth.

But she happened to be a lot of things. A hunter, a public relations person for a very secret organization, a poisons mistress, and a little bit of an assassin. And now, a healer at Hogwarts.

He raised an eyebrow, making note of the spot so that he wouldn't accidentally tickle her again, but perhaps he would tickle her on purpose next time.

"Do you often do this lying down?" he inquired innocently, but the smirk on his lips gave away that he knew exactly what he was asking.

"Hard to believe, I know," Darl said, nodding almost sadly. "But I'm afraid I just haven't got the knack for it. I'm a far to obvious person. And my beauty," he gestured to his face, as though being humble. "Well. It's distracting in and of itself. You can hardly blame me for not being able to walk around unnoticed."

He grinned at her in a joking manner to let her know that he was kidding. Mostly. At the very least he was exaggerating.

"I do a lot of things lying down," she said, with just a hint of a seductive edge to her voice. "Maybe you'll find out about a few of them sometime."

Recovered from the tickling, Ari closed her eyes and tried to relax under his hands. It was difficult, because she was trying not to think about what it would feel like to have his hands on her bare skin. That train of thought was going no where good, and she did try to derail it.

"I did notice that, yes," Ace murmured. "There were all sorts of complaints about you always winning the hottest professor award at the end of term feasts. It's so distracting it's almost ... mesmerizing."

She grinned lightly to him before she gestured toward the infirmary. Of course, if he was inclined to head elsewhere, she'd be fine with that. Though she wouldn't mind the company, either.

Darl was momentarily taken off guard. "Really?" he asked, a bit of a smug smile in place. "They talk about me?"

Belatedly, he realized that had probably been a joke, and he hastened to make it appear as if he'd known that all along. But his awkward weight shifting, change in expression, and clearing of throat probably gave him away.

He glanced to the infirmary, decided that yes, he did have a bit of time to kill, and nodded his head, gesturing that she should go first and planning to follow her in.

Neville chuckled. "Perhaps," he said as he continued to move his hands over her back, but he didn't think that that would be tonight, at any rate. That would be moving far too fast for his liking. He thought he'd like to take things a bit slower.

But he was enjoying giving her this massage, and providing her pleasure in that way. So maybe in the foreseeable future.

And then he wondered if he was getting ahead of himself. She may have just been... joking. Maybe she had no interest in pursuing a relationship other than platonic.

Maybe he was as naive as he was pretending to be, he thought with a small smirk.

Ace grinned lightly as she stepped into the infirmary. "Well, they do talk about you," Acevona agreed as she gestured him through the infirmary proper and up toward her quarters. Everything was up there, after all. "Do you prefer white or red wine?" She paused. "Or something a little harder?" She was moderately pleased that Ashley had been a wine drinker - there was a nice wine rack with a pair of glasses that the former healer had left behind.

Ari smiled lightly, her eyes closing. She did sigh softly, contently, and she sort of wondered if he would keep going indefinitely, but she also wasn't really inclined to ask him to stop.

Still, it might be best to move this sort of thing out of the teacher's lounge. Arching her back, she straightened a little as she glanced over her shoulder to him. "Thank you," she murmured, hazel eyes gleaming almost playfully.

He smirked a bit. "Wine's fine for now," he said with a nod. "Red, if you have it." But he reasoned that she wouldn't have offered if she didn't. He still had a vaguely bemused expression in place.

"Isn't that something," he said quietly. "I never would've thought myself the type to start those kinds of rumours among the students," he grinned. "Should I be flattered or concerned?"

He took that as his cue to stop, and though he kept his hands resting on her back for a moment, he did drop them after a moment. He flexed his fingers briefly before dropping his hands into his lap, and smiling at Ari.

"Feel better?" he asked lightly. Then, "Glad I could help."

"Students? Oh, no. I meant the professors." She smiled to Darl before she slipped the wine glasses off the rack filling each half full with the red wine before offering him one. "Have a seat," she murmured, gesturing around the room. There were a couple of chairs, positioned to be convenient places to converse from.

"Definitely feel better," Ari murmured to him as she stretched and straightened completely before reaching for her quill again. The papers weren't going to grade themselves, after all.

"Let me know when I should return the favor," she said to him quietly, glancing over to him.

He was mildly taken aback again, and couldn't decide if he thought that Ace was joking or not, and shifted his weight somewhat uneasily from foot to foot before he accepted the offered seat and glass of wine.

"That so?" he said with a vague sort of smirk, swirling the glass absently before taking a sip. "Mmm. This is good, where'd you get it?" he asked conversationally.

He smiled, nodding his head and absently wishing that he'd brought his own papers to grade - but he supposed that he could just as easily grab one of the offered magazines and sit here and talk to her if she was inclined that way - and just read the magazine if she wasn't. So he did that, nodding to her slightly.

"I will," he assured her. Though he wondered in a vague sort of way if he would have the guts to ask her if something came up.

"That's so," she agreed, though her grin may have made a liar of her before she sipped her own wine. "I don't know, actually. Madame Wolffe left it here when she vacated the premises, but I believe she did say it was elven made wine."

Speaking of, she wondered how far along Ashley was, and if they'd be hearing about a baby soon. But likely not that soon, she reasoned, if it had been late spring. Shaking off her thoughts, she smiled to Darl.

Ari glanced over to Neville with a little smile. She wondered if that was the sort of 'I will' that was stated simply to placate the other party, with no intended follow-through behind it.

Well, either way. She turned her attention back to her papers, content enough to pass the evening quietly in his company.

"Elven made?" he raised an eyebrow curiously, sniffed at the wine and took another sip as though he expected it to have changed now that he knew it's origins. "Curious. Don't know that I've ever had it before..."

He reasoned he probably had. His father had liked to pretend that they had something worth boasting about, and likely would've splurged at a party or two. But he didn't really like thinking too much about that.

He had been too preoccupied with the possibility that he might have admirers to have noticed her sneaky grin - though at this point he was rather entertained by the notion. He smiled slightly to himself.

"Were you - ah - familiar with Madam Wolffe then?" he asked curiously. He assumed as much - if she hadn't been, she likely wouldn't be offering him the other woman's wine.

She nodded. "I met her during the tournament, and we stayed in touch after that. I suppose there was a bit of string-pulling involved to get me in here," she said with a little chuckle before she sipped her own wine.

She did wonder if he'd known about the misfiring curse box, then reasoned he probably hadn't heard. And she wasn't exactly in a rush to reveal anything about that. It was - sadly - still an unsolved mystery. She reasoned it was related to the incident, but had no proof either way. "I knew her husband as well. The former librarian?" She smiled. "And I imagine when they have their baby, I'll hear about that as well."

Though that reminded her she should probably write to Ash, see how she and Ben were doing.

He smiled warmly. "Nothing wrong with a bit of string-pulling," he said, his tone suggesting agreement - as though he'd just been talking about how he pulled a few strings to get here himself. "Hogwarts is a truly wonderful place to be - at any age. It's no wonder the old students are pushing to get back in to teach!" he said before he chuckled a bit.

He realized that he was half assuming that she had been a student here, and really didn't know if she had been or not. He sipped lightly at his wine before he felt compelled to make a big deal out of apologizing for any possible offence she might have taken to that.

She chuckled softly. "Well, we've got to get our teachers from somewhere. Stands to reason they'd be from here." She paused. "Ashley was from Beauxbatons though," Ace murmured. "Maybe it was the accent that had all the school boys ... crushing on her?"

Her head tilted before she took another sip of her wine. "I think I'm glad I don't have that particular issue," she decided.

She studied him curiously for a moment. "Which house were you?"

"Hufflepuff," he said proudly, raising his glass with no shortage of House pride, and he grinned. "With the rest of the duffers," he added with a smirk, all too familiar with the stigmata there'd been when he was in school.

He smiled slightly to Ace, lifting his glass again before taking a sip. "Perhaps you do," he pointed out. "And the boys are just being less obvious about it," he said, in regards to the crushing. "You're certainly pretty enough."

Ah... well. Wasn't that an awkward thing to say. He took a sip of wine - win which he blamed for that particular outburst - cleared his throat and looked the other way briefly, wondering if it had been as awkward as he thought it had been.

"I was Slytherin," she murmured. Which, as far as she was concerned, explained why she didn't really recognize him - even if they'd had a few years together - from school.

"And really Darl," Ace murmured. "Have you ever, ever known a group of teenage boys to be subtle?" She paused. "Though I do thank you for the compliment," she continued, a soft smile curving her lips. It was amusing - just a little - that men never did seem to outgrow the awkwardness. The ones she knew didn't, anyway.

He smirked slightly. "I'm inclined to resent that remark!" he said somewhat indignantly, puffing up his chest a bit. "Though I suppose it really depends on the student that you're referring to, and the issue in question. Some of us can be subtle."

He paused. "Sometimes. Maybe. If we try."

He chuckled a bit, sipping his wine. "Though perhaps the problem is that you women are too subtle."

"Teenage boys, Darl," Ace murmured. "You don't really resemble a teenaged specimen," she continued, a little grin on her lips.

"I will not deny that some of us are a bit too subtle, where as some of us - Miss Silver springs to mind - are a fair bit too obvious."

She smiled softly before leaning back to sip at her wine. She, generally, liked to think she was among the subtle sorts.

"Obvious..." he repeated, his brow furrowing together. Had Ari been obvious? Oh. About the date thing. He nodded to indicate he didn't need further clarification - he had caught on to what she was getting at.

He smirked a bit again, chin sticking up. "I'm youthful at heart," he argued. "And apparently, have looks as good as any of the teenaged boys around here, from what I hear from the rumours."

Okay, so he was twisting her words a bit. He grinned, wondering how late it was an if he should head out and let her get some rest rather than pestering her with his silly jokes.

Ace grinned. Well, Ari had been obvious to her, but she'd spent the past fifteen years learning how to read people. So she supposed it was something of an art, now. "You certainly have the heart and looks of one of the students," Ace murmured, eyes gleaming playfully. "Maybe one day you'll be mistaken for one," she pointed out.

Though that could lead to trouble, couldn't it?

Chuckling softly, she finished her wine, setting the glass aside with a quiet, contented sigh.

And... finished with wine, and wrapping up conversation. He smiled slightly. This... was probably his cue to leave. Downing the last of the wine, he started to stand up - and oh, look at that, wobbly legs. He balanced himself by gripping the edge of the table, and frowning a bit at himself - in an amused way - at how much of a lightweight he appeared to be.

"Think I'm a bit tall for that one," he teased Ace lightly. "And it appears that I have a low tolerance for Elvin wine," he chuckled a bit. "I should probably return to my quarters before I continue on this... path and have more," he said with a small grin. He reasoned he could get there okay - maybe with a bit of holding the wall, if his legs continued to not want to support him - but okay nonetheless.

"I could try a sobering charm if you think you need help getting back," she offered with a light smile to him. Sure, it was a little on the strong side, but that strong? Maybe taking him out for drinks wasn't the best idea after all.

She did, very briefly, entertain the idea of inviting him to stay, but that wouldn't lead anywhere good ... and she thought Ari might fancy him a bit. She had no wish to estrange herself from the other woman, if Ari was the jealous sort.

"I... may be milking it a bit," he confessed with a gleam in his eye. It was true his knees were a bit weak and he might have to cling to the wall later - served him right for drinking on an empty stomach, at any rate - but he was pretty sure that he could manage to get back to his room on his own without the benefit of a sobering charm. He shook his head.

"Thanks for the offer though," he said, "but I'm pretty sure I'm perfectly fine." He smiled. "Thank you also for the wine and conversation," he added with a nod.

"You're most welcome for all of the above, Professor Rayne. Perhaps we should do this again - and I'll be sure to water down your wine before I give it to you." She chuckled softly, and wondered if he could make it down the stairs okay - or if she should put a cushioning charm at the bottom just in case.
