Entry tags:complete, day 31, group activity, ianto jones, illyana rasputin, l lawliet, violet baudelaire

Who: Violet Baudelaire,Illyana Rasputin, L Lawliet,Ianto Jones (Posting Order Set)
What: Group Activity - Swimming in the Lake
When: Day 31, Morning
Where: The Lake of Course
Rating: PG-13 for language at worst
Status: Open

One thing came to Violet's mind when she found the note (besides her fear of having to wear a swimsuit in public) was this: "Not now! I am ankle deep in soil samples". She had planned on spending the day gathering samples for her tests since she had been kicking around a hunch about the planet. But while she went looking for a single test tube was her fear only got worse when she found the swimsuit, tasteful since she was only 16 but she was still freaking out. *What if I happen to be the only teen* not knowing Illyana was close to her in age. But when she spotted the golem she only asked for a moment to put away her supplies (like any scientist) before following it to the lake. Since she was first she decided against taking off the floral coverup untill she had to.

But anyone could see the pale teen would rather be back among her books and samples than being told she had to go swimming. She took the test tube from her pocket and scooped enough water to fill the tube for later water tests when she spotted someone in the distance. "Pardon the nerd!" trying to joke to cover her racing nerves,"Water samples for later testing and I would be Violet" the British accent clear in the younger woman.

Well, so much for tree-house building, at least for the morning. Illyana looked at the note the golem handed her with not a little disdain. "Seriously?" she asked it. "Swimming?" The stone figure nodded. "Five minutes," she said, shutting the door in its face. Swimming wasn't her most favorite activity, and she wasn't aware that it was normally a group activity. Usually people who swam together already knew each other. At least, that's how it was at the mansion. At least, living at the school, she could swim. The Professor liked to make sure everyone could handle themselves in any situation, so they'd all been given swimming lessons during their training.

She turned and walked over to the chest of drawers, opening the top-most drawer. Sure enough, a swimsuit lay on the top of her other underclothes. Bikini. She smirked. It was more fabric than she had in her garb as Sorceress Supreme of Limbo. And she'd never been body-shy, much to Piotr's chagrin. She stripped quickly and pulled on the bikini, then tugged a pair of khaki slacks and a button-up blouse on over top of it. She may not be body-shy, but that didn't mean she was going to walk around like a hooker on display till she got to the lake. She slid her bare feet into a pair of sandals, then, after scrawling a quick note to Andy, she opened the door again. The golem was still standing where she'd left it.

"I said I'd be five minutes," she told it, walking past it quickly. If she looked at them too closely, they started to resemble some of the individual demons in her palace. This one bore a passing resemblance to S'ym, which creeped her out more than usual. "I'm going, so don't feel the need to follow me," she snapped at it.

As she approached the lake, she saw a girl who looked close to her in age stooping down and collecting some water in what looked like a test tube. At her "pardon the nerd" comment, Illyana smirked. "This time," she joked, walking up to the other girl. "Next time, though, no nerds, got it?" She smiled as she said it, hoping the dark-haired girl knew she was teasing. She held out her hand. "Illyana Rasputin, pleased to meet you," she said.

L did not sleep much, as a general rule. His heart seldom slowed enough for him to attain that level of tranquility, due to the combined amount of caffeine and sugar he consumed in any given day. However, last night, he had actually been able to relax enough to have a few hours of unbroken rest. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that being murdered in his sleep by Light Yagami wasn't an immediate possibility.

He stared at the note he'd been given by the Golem, then up at the creature's face uncertainly. It was absurd; he didn't even know how to swim. He didn't own a swimsuit, that he knew of. He was uncomfortable with the combination of deep water and people stronger than him (it was not uncommon for L to encounter people stronger than him.) "Thank-you, but I decline," he told the Golem politely, shutting the door. A moment later, a knock sounded on the door, more persistent than the one that had made L answer it in the first place. "I decline, good day," L said firmly. The Golem started to open the door; L swiftly locked and bolted it.

Then, to his horror, the creature actually took apart the hinges. "I decline! I do not want to... put me down!" he demanded fretfully, as the Golem slung him over a shoulder and trundled steadily down the hall. Thoughtfully, it grabbed a towel and a pair of swim shorts in L's size before hauling him to the lake and dumping his skinny body on the sandy beach. Immediately after it left him, satisfied at a job well done, L scurried back towards a patch of shade before his nocturnal shade of skin burned.

There were two young women already present, one holding a test tube and the other making overtures of getting acquainted with her. They were both more scantily clad than L knew how to politely deal with. Drawing his knees to his chest and staring at the swim shorts, he noticed that the Golem was hovering nearby. If it tried to force him into wearing something that exposed the majority of his pale, skinny body and pushed him into cold water (in front of strangers he had yet to trust, moreover), he would most likely go catatonic for a few hours to spare his mind the turmoil.

Swimming. Ianto stared down at the note in disbelief. The last time he had gone swimming in a lake was before he had worked for Torchwood. Ianto had been here long enough to know that he was not getting out of it, though. Sighing, Ianto excused himself and went to go put on some swimming trunks. It felt odd wearing them. He was so used to his suits and wearing jeans nowadays.

Ianto made his way down to the lake, wearing a simple t-shirt and with a towel draped neatly over his arm. The other people there appeared to be around the same age he was or slightly younger. He noticed a young man sitting in the shade and decided that that wasn't a bad idea. Ianto sat down nearby but far away enough so that the young man still had plenty of space. "Rather be somewhere else, hn?" he asked, smiling slightly as he striked up conversation. "Ianto Jones," he introduced himself.

After seeing the look on L's face Violet had gone into action, quickly asking for supplies to make a simple shelter. She quickly set up the shelter with enough room for L to slip inside so he would not burn from the sun but close enough to the water that once it wamred up some he could join the others.

"Violet Baudelaire" she added for Ianto and Illyana. She joked,"Very ok, I've gotten better at telling good humored teasing" as she swallowed hard, finally taking off the red floral coverup. But anyone could see she was more at ease among her books and projects (having to put the soil tests on hold). "Been kicking around some hunches so that should explain the test tube" she explained. The younger woman finally got into the water, dreading it since it had been ages since Violet had done anything like this.

Illyana glanced over at the two men sitting in the shade and scowled slightly. That seemed like cheating, in her eyes. "Not afraid of the water are we, boys?" she asked, the teasing lilt back in her voice. The same tone she sometimes took with Piotr when he was being difficult about something.

She smiled at Violet. This girl, at least, was ready to swim. Even if she reminded Illyana of Dr. McCoy - or at least, the rumors she'd heard of him, since he didn't live at the mansion at the moment. She was impressed at Violet's shelter-making abilities. While the girl worked, Illyana decided that it was warm enough that the clothing wasn't really necessary. She shed her blouse and khakis, then wandered, clad only in her bikini, toward the two young men to set them down a bit away from the lake. "Mind if I leave these here?" she asked sweetly.

Ianto Jones. L catalogued the name away in his mind, inventing a mnemonic device on the spot to remember the unusual moniker. He studied the man, Chewing the tip of his thumb and looking, as usual, only partially mentally present, and then nodded slowly. Yes, he would rather be somewhere else. Safe, inside, away from sun and sand and things that could hurt him or make him sick. Before Ianto could be exposed to one of L's famously awkward, staring silences, however, his attention was caught by the younger of the two women (just a teenager, L judged) actually putting together a shelter at the edge of the water. He couldn't clearly see the materials used, but she seemed to be doing a good job of it. Seeing a need, and filling that need... perhaps she was an inventor or scientist, judging from the test tubes nearby.

Then... the blonde girl actually approached L and Ianto. Wearing hardly anything at all. L quickly covered his eyes like a frightened child, aware that it made him feel different to see a woman clad in so few garments. He did all right, in a changing world, so long as he could rely on himself to remain reliable and static. When he started to feel a little warmth creeping into his cheeks, or butterflies in his stomach, it honestly scared him.

Ianto lifted a hand in greeting to Violet as she introduced herself. He'd seen the two girls around but never knew their names.

When Illyana spoke, Ianto laughed. "No, not afraid, just more comfortable on land," he tossed back. When the young woman revealed her swimsuit though, Ianto raised an eyebrow. He wasn't even 25 yet so he wasn't surprised at her attire although he did wish she would have a bit more material. "Yes, that's fine," Ianto replied as she set her clothes down, keeping his eyes politely upwards. It would be rude to stare, he felt, and besides, he wasn't looking. His gaze returned to the water and he idly wondered what Jack would look like now. Sure, he had seen him wet before but not out on a beach with sunlight falling down on his body as water trickled down... Ianto shook his head, almost blushing slightly as he caught himself fantasizing. Good god, he hoped Illyana didn't think he was thinking about her. That would be embarrassing.

He glanced at the young man sitting next to him and was slightly amused to see him pointedly not looking at Illyana. Ianto would have asked his name but he seemed to be very uncomfortable being here.

Violet caught Ianto's accent right away, a tiny reminded of home for her. So she called to him,"Wales if my guess of your accent is correct?" as she set the test tubes with her samples nearby before getting into the water, deciding it was easier to just get this over with. Being the youngest from her guess Violet did look her age in the simple suit (and to be honest she wanted to be deep in her samples). "Guess I would rather be among my books and ideas, was ankle deep in water samples"

"Thank you," Illyana said, smiling at Ianto. She noticed how polite he was being and her smile widened. Gentlemen were hard to come by, but Ianto seemed to be one. She glanced at the young man beside him, and had to bite back a giggle at his reaction to her. He seemed embarrassed, and he wasn't looking at her. It would be rude to laugh at a stranger, especially for behavior she wouldn't be surprised to see on a friend. Rahne would have averted her eyes as well, in horror at the idea of someone wearing so little. The boy's reaction actually made her relax a little more, safe in the knowledge that the two males present wouldn't do anything rude or outlandish.

"We are supposed to be swimming," she said, turning back toward the water. "And I for one intend to swim. If I can't have my snow, I need to make the best of this new environment, right?" She grinned as she turned and made her way back toward the shore. She looked over at Violet. "Why not swim out a ways and take some samples from the middle of the lake, or from the bottom, or something? Then you can do your experiments and enjoy the water." It made sense to her, at least.

Illyana walked into the water, feeling goose-flesh rise as the cool water hit her skin. It wasn't unpleasant, but it was a bit cooler than she'd expected. That also made her happy. Lake water that was too warm was unnerving. Once she was waist-deep, she pushed forward, kicking her feet from the bed of the lake, and swam out a ways, making herself warmer through movement. She turned back toward the shore. "It's not bad," she called to the three who were still on shore. "What are you waiting for?"

More comfortable on land. That certainly made more sense. The swim trunks laying on the ground next to L, if he chose to wear them, would expose his bony, pale body in most of its vulnerable entirety. He didn't like the idea much at all, or the prospect of having blistering, peeling sunburns. Even under Violet's shelter, the water would reflect the Sun's rays and L's nocturnal skin would pay.

The two girls were very different, from what L could observe as he was (which, in a way, meant attempting not to observe anything at all.) Indeed, the idea that L would "do anything" with a scantily clad woman was, itself, outlandish. Despite his genius, his emotional maturity left much to be desired. He didn't think about the opposite sex "that way." Illyana seemed intent on swimming and making the best of the situation, but L glanced at the other man.

"You can go, but I like it here," he said earnestly, biting his fingertip. "I don't want to get wet, or burned, or hurt, or..." he stopped; it was bad enough that he sounded like a paranoid basket case over journals.

Ianto raised an eyebrow at Violet. Someone from the same landmass he was from, it sounded like. "Yes, that's right," he confirmed with a smile. "And yourself?" The more the girl spoke, the more she reminded him like a young version of Tosh. Violet looked like she had a sharp mind.

He turned to L. "Surely you've been swimming before. I don't think you'll burn. Try it out and if you start to feel uncomfortable, then come sit on the side," he suggested. Idly, Ianto wondered if L just couldn't swim and that was why he wanted to just sit and watch...

After watching Illyana go into the water, he gave a mock sigh, getting to his feet. "Well, if swim we must..." Ianto headed towards the water, removing his shoes and wading into the lake. It was cool and was very pleasant. Content to just wade for now, Ianto walked slowly along the shore, looking out at the view. He, like L, didn't much want to get wet either.

"London proper" Violet called back, she was happy to hear an accent that was like home since for some reason Ianto reminded her a lot of Klaus. She dove in to get a sample from the lake itself,"Been testing water from all over the resort and just needed some samples from the lake" as she set the test tube with the sample by the coverup.

For being only 16 Violet was smarter than most young women. "The snowball cannon from the recent fight was my inventor, it was great to finally use an idea for something fun plus snow makes killer firepower" she was grinning.

Illyana treaded water, listening to the conversation. "I've been to London, with Dr. MacTaggart," she offered. "Nice place. Met the Israeli ambassador." Back when she'd thought Piotr and Kitty were gone forever. It had been a welcome distraction from the worrying.

She looked over at Violet, who was swimming out farther into the lake. "What are you testing it for?" she asked. When she mentioned the snow cannon, Illyana grinned. "That was you? That was crazy! You got some good hits on me with that thing," she said.

Looking back toward the shore, she smiled at Ianto, who was just starting to head into the water. "It's only cold for a second, I promise," she said, holding her arms out wide. The other boy still hesitated, though. "Hey, come on!" she called. "I promise not to splash you or anything! At least come sit on the shore near the water."

L continued to stare at the swim trunks. He really, really did not want to do this. His fear of germs, of physical contact, of his environment changing too quickly... all of those factors conspired against him to make this situation very uncomfortable. Still, the others were nice, even friendly, and it didn't seem like it would be the end of the world to at least sit by the water's edge.

It seemed like L's Golem-nanny wasn't as thoughtfully patient, however. From behind, it slung the startled detective over one shoulder and cheerfully dumped him, fully clothed, into the lake. Clearly, it thought that it was doing something very good for L, who surfaced, soggy and stunned, with his teeth chattering. No one... no one... treated him like this. He raised his finger, glaring, preparing to admonish the Golem viciously for this undignified and ludicrous treatment... but the Golem merely patted him on the head and placed a rubber duck in the water by L's midriff.

He shook his head, staring as the duck bobbed in the water. Even in a world where everything was starting to look like a mockery, this rated pretty high.

Ianto was happy to hear that Violet was from nearby his home. Before he could say anything else, though, he was distracted by a golem picking up the young man and dumping him into the water.

Ianto pressed a hand to his mouth, trying to contain his laughter as he made his way over. "A towel, please," he asked, holding a hand out. A large beach towel appeared and draped over his arm a moment later. "Are you alright? Here," he said to L, offering the towel.
