Who: Layla Williams and OTA
What: Layla Arrives
When: Day 30, late evening
Where: In the swimming pool, she had been doing reps in the pool getting ready for her college swim meet at Gilmore and wound up in Mirage
Rating: TBD but probably no higher than PG to PG-13.
Status: Complete

Layla had been doing laps for her college swim meet. She had gotten a partial college scholarship for her swimming, even though she had gone to Sky High, she was a sidekick and as a sidekick they helped in the 'Save the Citizen' depending on the day, usually Heroes performed for the entire school, but sidekicks needed to help as well. Layla was a Hero, to be sure, her powers that she had shown during the Homecoming Massacre during her freshman school year had proved she was, but she never wanted that title and was quite happy with being a sidekick. That meant she had time to attend to her passions, plants, drawing, the guitar and the swimming pool. Layla was a natural in the water, so it was no big deal, no-scratch that, it was a big deal to her, that she got this scholarship. She decided on going to a sleepy college in North Carolina with a kick ass botany program and also an amazing food program. The combination would pander to her want to become a PH. D that created a cheap organic food program for the poor. That meant she had to keep fit and keep her scholarship, so she was off doing laps in the pool, when she looked up she realized that she was no longer in the school swimming pool, but somewhere else, the rising panic hit hard. Layla looked around, finding a towel and a robe that she pulled on, she called out, "Hello? Is anyone out there?" She felt shaky and freaked, but she had her powers behind her, her training in martial arts and 'Save the Citizen', first aide and CPR, motorcycle sidecar basics and also a motorcycle license, plus a multitude of other things and if she wanted in the blink of the eye she could change into her Armour with full on utility belt and supplies, but she wanted to wait until that was absolutely necessary.

"Hello? OK, tis is not funny? Where am I?" She called out.

Layla smiled at the girl when she told her she could admire it. "Well, sadly, sometimes it does come down to fisticuffs. Not much that can be done about that and each path is as noble as the other." Layla said softly, with a reassuring smile.

Layla went through her mental dictionary then. "A golem Hebrew for an undeveloped lump, in medieval Jewish legend, an automaton like servant made of clay and given life by means of a charm, or shem Hebrew for the the name of God. Golem's were attributed in Jewish legend to several rabbis in different European countries. The most famous legend centered around Rabbi Löw, of 16th-century Prague. After molding the golem and endowing it with life, Rabbi Löw was forced to destroy the clay creature after it ran amok." Layla finished up her words, looking back and forth down the hallway.

"OK, so what kind of plan should we come up with? What is our main goal here?" Layla looked to Max then, wondering how she might weigh in.

Max half smiled at the comment about how sometimes, life can come down to violence no matter what.

When she listened to the girl go off on the definition tangent, she realized that all the information she was saying was already in her head. Max always had a very good memory, that was just one of the things the lovely scientists cooked up for her in the lab, but the girl didn't seem to mean to say any of these things, so she let it go without saying anything to it.

"Im not sure, but maybe we should book it to your new crib first. I'm Max, by the way, sorry i'm so slow on the introductions."

Well, Layla had meant to say what she was saying and she sad it out loud, because she had no idea what this person knew or didn't know? So, going through her mental Rolodex and out loud to boot was meant to benefit both of them and if the girl already knew what it was then there still wasn't anything wrong with saying it out loud.

"Nice to meet you, Max. I rather check this place out some before I go and find my crib, as you call it. I rather see what we are up against then just sit back and give up. I want to go home, not get comfortable like some lamb to the slaughter." Layla said thoughtfully. Not really sure where she was, what direction it held, Layla decided to start walking. Listening to the plants as she went, more for guidance then anything. She wondered if Max would follow or go and find her room, either way Layla wouldn't be upset.

"Alright, let's get to steppin. I gotta get home too. There are too many people countin on me. Let's take this motha down." She wanted to go home, but she also kind of liked the fact that she was in a place that Manticore couldn't get to her. That no one here would be searching for her just to put her in a cage or kill her. She followed the girl as she walked away. "Plus, I've already seen my new digs, and if you don't want to see yours, then we don't have to worry about that one."

"We need to find an office or people, people would be good. May be they can answer questions or tell us where we are?" Layla said to the girl over her shoulder. She spotted some stores. "Right, so freakin' weird, there are stores here."

The other girl had her back to Max, and was walking in the other direction, so Max assumed it would be okay for her to use her speed to catch up. Before Layla had finished speaking, Max was next to her again.

"That's insane. Stores? Maybe some peeps are getting their shop on."

"Getting their shop on, among other things. This place just seems all kinds of off to me. I really don't like it. I wish my team was here, I really do." Layla stated, her back still toward Max.

Max was having trouble staying side-by-side with Layla, she was starting to get annoyed with the girl that seemed to keep trying to leave her, but she wanted to get some answers herself, so she stayed with her.

"Yeah, it's about 20 different kinds of crazy, isn't it? Let's go check it out." She sped up in front of Layla so she was in front of her for a change.

"Yeah it is," Layla didn't mind that the girl went ahead, but she was worried for her. "Please, be careful." She gently laid her hand on her shoulder for a second when Max took the lead. "I don't want y-us to get hurt, OK. We have no idea what this place really is? It could be a very elaborate cover up, or they could have drugged us and took us here. We don't know what they want from us, and I would hate to see you or me get hurt." Layla looked around, her eyes narrowed.

"Sure is crazy." Layla said quietly, she really wished Warren, Will and Magenta were here with her, "Let's check it out," letting Max lead if she wanted to, this way if she needed to use her powers she didn't have to worry too much about hiding it from her, since she was behind the girl.

As Max listened to Layla's worried explaination, she slowed down a bit and kept pace with Layla so they were side-by-side. "Don't worry about me. I'll beat anyone's ass that comes near us. I'm more worried about you, but no big dealio. I got your back." Max wasn't about to admit that she was genetically engineered killing machine, but she wouldn't hesitate to kick some ass if she needed to protect herself and this girl she had just met.

"Thank you, I appreciate it." Not mentioning that she could protect herself using the plants around them.

"Well, I won't let anyone get the drop on you if I can manage it, they don't call me a sidekick for nothing." Layla smiled at Max.

"Wow, more of those stone things." Layla saw them near the front desk and backed up a little.
